This book was ADORABLE. The illustrations are fun and warm. Kids will love reading this book and parents will appreciate the lessons included in it.

Bats are incredibly important to our environment but are also greatly misunderstood. It's nice to see an author feature them so prominently as fun characters!

Megabat series is so adorable! I know it's a series my son will enjoy and be able to grow with. This was such a cute story and a really great book about being afraid.

Another wonderful tale from the adorable Megabat and his friends. This is such a great series for early novel readers. My daughter who has outgrown these books in reading level still wants to read each new instalment because Megabat is just so darn cute!

Daniel’s father surprises him with a trip to a sleep away camp. Daniel hasn’t ever gone to camp before and he is scared. His friend, Megabat, will be accompanying him, and he is excited. Megabat is a fruitbat, who can speak. Daniel immediately loves camp when he makes some friends, but Megabat is scared. Some bats met Megabat and want him to go into the dark forest with him. Megabat has to figure out how to conquer his fears.

Megabat is adorable! He speaks like a little kid, without proper grammar. For example, when he found out they were going to camp, he said, “But camp is being the adventure of a livingtime.” Even though he doesn’t use the right words most of the time, it’s easy to figure out what he means.

This was a great story about camp. Daniel was scared to go because he didn’t know what to expect. As soon as he made a friend on the bus, he forgot all about his fears. Even though many kids won’t be going away to camp this summer, they can read about camp in stories like this one.

This was a fun kid’s story!

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Anna Humphrey and Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun story about friendship, trying new things, and conquering your fears. At first I was not a fan of the way Megabat speaks as does not speak English properly, but then I realized that kids won’t care and I was being an old fuddy-duddy and it didn’t matter how the bat was speaking because it was a bat!

I loved all the unintentional pranks and the hijinks that Megabat gets into throughout the book as it all helps Daniel come out of his shell and explore the world around him.

This is such a sweet beginner chapter book. It has some illustrations and the font is large. Megabat is so sweet with his inner thoughts and speech. Love these!

Loved this beginning reader! Such a great first step chapter book to help with character building skills. I will be recommending this read this to early elementary educators to add it to their classroom library! Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy!

This is SUCH a cute book! The story is engaging and has so many elements that young kids like- camp, ghost stories, friends, animals. But it also has so many good lessons woven into the story. I love that Daniel cries in the story! I really want to continue to see more and more books that normalize emotions in young boys and show that it's ok and normal to cry, be sad, be happy, etc. The information about the importance of bats to the environment is a lovely touch at the end as is the lesson about everyone being afraid of something but working slowly to overcome that fear.

My only concern about this book is that because it is what I would term close to an early chapter book the odd language/diction of Megabat- while SUPER cute and fun- might be confusing for newer readers who are still finding their ground with reading.

Despite my concern this is a very cute book that I would definitely recommend to young readers.

A cute story about a boy and his best friend, a bat, going to camp! I loved the artwork in this and the friendship. It really captures the essence or going to camp for the first time and learning to make friends and explore. A sweet story and a nice ending!

Reading this young chapter book to my five year old grandson during in-home school was a delight for both of us. The humor appealed to us both, and the illustrations reflected the content and mood of the story very well. The worry about going to overnight camp and fear inspired by camp ghost stories will resonate with kids, and the pranks described will tickle their funny bones.

Oh, Megabat! How we love you in this house! For each funny saying and adorable misunderstanding, our love of this tiny fruit bat grows and grows. This book is a perfect read-aloud for a classroom or a side-by-side with a single child. Anyone who has ever been to sleepaway camp, will find themselves in this story. Amongst the humor are wonderful moments of friendship, bravery, facing of fears, and personal growth. In my childhood, we begged for a grown-up to read Bunnicula. My children beg for Megabat.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in return for a fair and honest review.

In this installment of Megabat, he and Daniel are off to camp and Daniel is not excited about it. Megabat does his best to help Daniel see the positives of the situation but Daniel is scared and anxious. At camp they both run into some trouble.

This series tends to follow Megabat as the title would imply but he is always with Daniel so he liked to help him whenever he can. Megabat meets some brown bats, a little different than him and he learns what he is frightened by which helps him understand why Daniel was afraid of camp. This book was a great book about trying new things even if you are a little scared, but it also looked at some other child fears as well.

Overall this was a fun read, it is quick and the story line is good. There are illustrations throughout to help refocus readers and help the story along, which is always nice. Megabat, while a but mischievous, is very sweet and has the best of intentions. You can pick up this book without having read the others in the series which is also appealing.

The lovable Megabat is back for his third adventure and this time he heads to summer camp! All the camp loving readers out there will get a total kick out of Megabat and Daniel’s week away at sleepover camp and will relate to the fears and the fun of your first time away.

Megabat and Daniel are spending a week at Camp Wildwood and while Megabat is very excited, Daniel is feeling quite nervous about being away from home. Megabat being a great friend tries to help Daniel look at things in a brighter light and help open his mind to the fun adventures to be had at camp. Of course, when they get there Daniel realizes that camp is fantastic and all of the worries he had melt away. Megabat on the other hand becomes the one scared about camp after hearing a scary campfire story on the first night. Luckily Megabat meets some new wild bat friends who help him to embrace the camp lifestyle.

Anna Humphrey has a hit on her hands. The Megabat series is very funny and heartfelt and totally appealing to younger middle grade readers. Although The Bear could totally access this book on his own I requested we read it together so we could laugh and enjoy all of Megabat’s funny speech patterns and terrible ideas together. It’s the perfect book to read alone but also together for children who are perhaps just growing out of the read to me stage. Anna Humphrey puts so much heart into the Megabat series and her work leave the reader entertained but also feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Megabat and Daniel are two of the most endearing characters in middle grade fiction and you just never want their story to end.

Kass Reich’s illustrations are fantastic, breaking up the chapters and adding some extra flavour to an excellent story

Title: Megabat is a Fraidy Bat
Series: Megabat
Author: Anna Humphrey
Publisher: Tundra Books
Release Date: April 7, 2020
Genre: Children's Book | Fiction
Rating: 3 Stars

Megabat is a Fraidy Bat, is very different from the books I am used to. I really enjoyed the relatable story of a child feeling hesitant and afraid of new experiences. I appreciate the fact that MEgabat is able to talk Daniel into trying new things as a real friend would. Overall the story was very cute and very well crafted. However there was a particular part I did not like, and that was Megabat's speech pattern.
Megabats speech pattern made it very hard for me to read and understand what he was saying, he reminded me a lot of Jar Jar Binks and Starfire. despite that, there really wasn't anything wrong with the book. I love that both friends went on an adventure that hopefully taught them both a lesson.

ARC COPY...that was soooo adorable and cute! Megabat is back again being a fraidybat at camp (you think a bat wouldn't be scared of the outdoors!). It was cute to see his interactions with the baby-kid bat alias an older sibling relationship and the illustrations are just adorable!

Megabat Is a Fraidybat is a cute chapter book for middle readers by Ana Humphrey, with illustrations by Kass Reich. Due out 7th April 2020 from Penguin Random House on their Tundra imprint, it's 192 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a well written and entertaining book about friendship, taking chances, meeting new people, and going outside of our comfort zones. The book has a positive message and manages to show a refreshing diversity in the characters without being strident. I liked it that Daniel shows emotion and isn't shamed for that.

Megabat is adorable, as are the other anthropomorphic characters, Birdgirl, Priscilla (though she only gets a cameo in this book), Babybat, and Batzilla. The human characters are generally helpful and cooperative. The illustrations are full of whimsy and gentle humor.

This would make a great gift, bedtime family read, library or classroom circle read, or similar. There is good scope for discussion here about bravery, honesty, facing fears, going outside our comfort zones (even with things such as food and meeting new people), etc.

Just a really lovely book for youngsters. Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
