Excellent cultural analysis of America and Europe’s decadence. Douthat writes on another level. However, I must admit a disagree with a foundational aspect of his premise. Full review will be published at The Federalist in the coming weeks.

This book is fantastic. Douthat has his finger on the pulse of American society and culture, seeing rightly that we are not in a period of stagnation or decline, but decadence--and we like it that way. Will America's decadent age ever end? It is bound to, eventually. I'll be sharing this book with friends and family, discussing it in my neighborhood and at work, and evaluating news and trends in light of the insights contained therein.

There is so much in this book that I secretly thought in my head and never spoke out loud or discussed with anybody, but here it is written down for everyone, to do more research if desired and to form their own opinions.
I found the parts about how pornography and all our technical gadgets changed our society especially interesting and I feel sadness about everything that's going wrong. I believe that each individual needs to make their own choices and not rely on somebody else to fix what's wrong. We, the little people can only do so much, work on and vote.
I can highly recommend this book and this is perfect to discuss in a book club. I need to find someone to talk about it for sure.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with the eARC.
