A Killer’s Wife is a whodunit story. But it doesn’t stop there.. the story is twisty, deceptive, violent and intense! What would you do if an ugly past comes back to bite you, after you have finally moved on and have set a good life for yourself.. this is the entire plot of the story.. the execution and flow is brilliant.. i loved the characters.. especially Jessica and Baldwin! Gonna look for other works from Victor Methos! If you’re looking for gripping psychological thriller, look no more!
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for reader’s copy of this novel. This review is my own and is not influenced in any way.

Amazing discovery! The author achieved to keep me on the edge of my seat all along.

The first half of the book is about the investigation on two double murders. We also learn to know Jessica Yardley, the ex-wife of a serial-killer, now a really good attorney. I liked this character, except for all her predictable changes of mind.

In the middle of my reading, I started to wonder what the second half of the book could possibly be, and then the story became even more enthralling, turning into a true legal thriller. That second part blew me away and I read it in one sitting, even if there were some elements difficult to believe (how can an allegedly great attorney be so bad?).

I can't wait to read the next book of this new series and what is going to happen with Jessica's family and friends!

4.5

Addictive, suspenseful, and twisty!

In this absorbing first installment in the Desert Plains series, A Killer’s Wife, Methos has written a sharp, sinister thrill ride featuring the resilient and tough prosecutor, Jessica and the dependable FBI Agent, Baldwin as they join forces to hunt a cold, calculating serial killer with a penchant for reenacting the most heinous of crimes.

The writing is taut and intense. The characters are meticulous, persistent, and tormented. And the plot is an engrossing, eerie whodunit full of twists, turns, lies, deception, familial drama, obsession, depravity, violence, and murder.

Overall, A Killer’s Wife is a fast-paced, tortuous, disturbing tale that does an exceptional job of reminding us that evil often lives comfortably amongst us merely concealed behind masks of normality.

This book is super good and stressful. Jessica Yardley is a prosecuting attorney and her ex-husband Eddie is in prison for a series of brutal murders. She is now trying to help solve and prosecute a copycat murderer that is killing people similar to Eddie’s style. She has to meet with Eddie in prison to get his insight on the killer. Too bad this killer knows how to defend his case in court.

I highly recommend this book. It was stressful for me because I can only imagine being in court with someone who has protected himself from exact situation.

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC for my honest read!

A smartly written thriller/ courtroom drama. Very impressive. There were a few little moments that strained credulity but overall it was very believable. Character development was somewhat limited but the main protagonist is pretty well fleshed out. I look forward to more books by this author!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a free advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

A Killers Wife is a really great legal thriller, with a cast of interesting and intelligent characters, full of twists and turns and some unbelievable coincidences, but thrilling because of how they add such depth.
Jessica a state attorney was married to a man who turned out to be a serial killer, he is now on death row but murders are happening where the victims are killed in exactly the same manner as he used. Investigating with the FBI Jessica realises her ex must somehow have involvement in these heinous crimes.
So starts a tale full of great investigation and revelations. When the murderer is discovered so starts the trial.
The second half of the book concentrates on this trial and it’s a real cracker. Great dialogue, brilliant legal arguments and a really manipulative defendant determined to have his day in court.
A page turning story, thoroughly enjoyable which is what I’ve come to expect off this excellent author, the final pages will leave you breathless.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

A Killer’s Wife is a great read! The pacing of the story was excellent, I loved the strong female protagonist and found the storyline interesting. The serial killer/copycat aspect is sometimes overdone in thrillers BUT I think Victor Methos wrote it well, with the courtroom, procedural aspect detailed but not overly done. 4/5 stars for me! I will look for more titles by this author!

For a thriller, this was pretty dang good! I couldn’t put it down - literally from the first page, I was hooked.

Although there were a few times that the story seemed unbelievable, at least the dialogue never got cheesy and the plot never got too convoluted. I really like how this author writes and now I definitely want to read more of his books!

Overall, a really good action-packed thriller that I enjoyed all the way from beginning to end.

My first read by this author and it won't be my last. The story is well written and interesting. Just the right tone for the courtroom scenes which usually bore me. The characters are fascinating, particularly Tara. You can see where things are going early, however, there are several shocks along the way. Including that ending that I never saw coming and was my favorite part of the book. I read somewhere that this is the first in a new series and I really hope it is. Gripping, full of suspense and tension, this is a must read.

This was a slow start. It took me a few chapters to get into it. But once I did wow! This was a page Turner. Had me on the edge of my seat till I finished

The book starts rather slowly, but builds to a satisfactory conclusion. The protagonist, a lawyer, is out of her element in investigations, but has the extra insight that comes from being married to ‘but here. Mix it family problems, jurisdictional issues, and the story moves well.

I really enjoyed the last third of this book. The first two thirds were very typical for this genre. However, for me the last third of the book more than made up for it! I will read more from this author!

The storyline is good, some part was a bit predictable but there are also twists that are good and unexpected.

Jessica Yardley was once married to a man who later turned out to be a serial killer. She even had a daughter by him. Now a copycat is reprising his crimes. And Jessica, now a federal prosecutor, is being pulled into the investigation and subsequent trial. Having practiced law for a number of years, I am no great fan of legal thrillers. But this one is a real page-turner. I started it in the morning, and didn't put it down until I finished some hours later. And every time I thought I had it all figured out, a new twist made me think again. I like that in a book. Highly recommended, but not for the squemish.

Some time ago, I gave up writing negative reviews of books as it was just too frustrating. But now and then, there is one that really needs to be addressed.

I have read two of Victor Methos' standalone legal mysteries and loved them. In fact, I started to bore people by talking about and recommending them. When I saw he was going to start a series, I was tremendously excited to the point that I contacted Victor directly. He was kind enough to provide me with a link to the e-galley since it wasn't yet up on NetGalley. Therefore, writing this is painful in the extreme.

My first issue was the constant referral of the protagonist by her surname. I recognize there are some professions where that is common, regardless of gender. However, even Donna Leon makes the distinction of referring to her character as "Brunetti" when he is at work, and "Guido" when he's at home.

Second, the troubled, incredibly bright teenaged daughter. What kind of mother would hold her child back from being able to realize her full potential? Red flags immediately were raised.

Third, when the police, who had already withheld information from her, came and asked for her help with her serial-killer ex-husband, any sane, reasonable person who had been through such an experience, would have told them to do their own damn jobs and get out. Instead--I know it was the basis for the plot--she agrees. Then, when they tell her not to enter the crime scene, she does the classic TSTL move, and ENTERS THE CRIME SCENE.

Fourth, what was with the prosecutor? Here's a guy who is supposedly top of his professional and he's so incompetent, one wonders who he gets dressed in the morning.

Fifth, the true-good-to-be-true boyfriend. Red flags screamed at that.

So there's the setup. About one-quarter into the book, there was no question where the plot was going, and it isn't that long of a book. It was so clearly broadcast that I broke my cardinal rule and went to the end of the book, only to find I was 100%, bang-on correct.

There was one bright spot: the courtroom scenes. Due to Methos' experience as a lawyer, the courtroom scenes are interesting, engrossing, and suspenseful on their own merit. Too bad the rest of the book didn't hold up as well.

"A Killer's Wife" was an absolute wall-banger for me. Even more frustrating was that I couldn't actually, physically throw it across the room because it was an e-galley and I wasn't willing to sacrifice my Kindle.

So I'm sorry, Victor, I'm not giving up on your standalones, but please, stay away from trying to write dysfunctional female protagonists.

This is a very well written story with excellent characters, and the plot is very good except a twist and the following part that is really stupid. The ending is great, though, so you need to read it all!

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* So I got this from netgalley and right after I started it I saw it on kindle unlimited and listened to the audiobook. I really didn't care much for the characters? I really hate the whole *oh no. we have to do what this evil person wants us to do because …….reasons* which just really annoys me and this pretty much this whole book. I did like the ending tho, like wow. like wow all I gotta say is, that was bad a**

Jessica Yardley as finally managed to put her past behind her. Her husband is in jail, she’s become an attorney with a full load of clients, and she’s enjoying every moment with her daughter. But when a series of murders bearing all the hallmarks of her husbands crimes rips through the city, the FBI asks for Jessica’s help. To do that, Jessica has to visit her ex in prison and risks getting pulled ever deeper into his pool of darkness. As the old saying goes, “If you stare into the abyss long enough…..”
