This book is about a stolen identity that leads a woman down a dark and desperate path.
If you like psychological suspense you will love this one!

This book had its share of semi predictable twists and turns! It was a little slow in the beginning but ended up being an enjoyable thriller about a stolen identity. One thing I never understand in books or shows is why people don't get the police involved quickly when suspicious things start to happen, but I can forgive that. Brieanne is on the move to get her life back when she discovers someone is trying to take it over, but what she finds is not what she expected.

I wasn't able to get into this one. I find with thrillers, that if the plot isn't super tight it's harder to just go along with with.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes a book doesn't match with you and that doesn't make it a bad book just a bad match.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

It was an interesting thriller about a woman who got attacked. She lives in a big house and decided to get a tenant to share the house with her enter a doctor named Naill. I was a bit confused at first as I didn't know what was going on but halfway through the book everything started to make sense.

When I was you is a fast paced psychological thriller that fell flat for me. I figured out the twist very early on in the story and predicted the twists to the end of book. The protagonist is an unreliable narrator with no backbone and her decisions were so weak it drove me crazy. If you have never read a thriller before you may enjoy it, however if you are an avid thriller fan this book will be too simplistic in the plot and storyline for you.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Thomas and Merced for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

When I Was You started off fairly strong. I enjoyed the detective elements with Brienne trying to discover the truth. However once the main twist was revealed approximately half way. The book fell flat for me. The villain wasn't overtly realistic and there was too many obvious mistakes that would have been easily remedied. Overall sadly it wasn't my cup of tea.

To be honest I really wanted to like this one but it fell flat for me.

Brienne is recovering from a brutal attack when begins to think that someone has stolen her identity. But who is this person and how does she prove it? She is determined to hunt down the person involved and will do whatever it takes to reclaim her life.

It wasn't as suspenseful for me as I was hoping it would be but it did have a few good twists involved. I think the slow beginning really put a sour taste in my mouth. On top of that, I didn't really like Brienne which made me not feel as invested as I should have been for a storyline of this type.

Not the best....but definitely not the worst either.

This was a good psychological thriller. I would not say the beat as some things just could not stand I the court of law. Still good killed time which I had plenty of

I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked as soon as I picked it up.
It was a believable solid read. I can see this happening in real life with today's use of social media.

When I Was You is such a well thought out psychological thriller (in my opinion) and boy was it fast-paced! In saying that, I will admit that the beginning of Part I was a tad on the slower side, however, Minka quickly turned that around by throwing you twist after twist, and literally had me at the edge of my seat until the very end!

On more than one occasion, I would have to pause to "what?!" to myself because Minka kept me guessing (albeit, guessing wrong lol) every step of the way. I also felt like the characters were easy to connect with because Minka really did a great job with them, which was just so enjoyable to read.

If you’re looking for an ‘edge of your seat’ psychological thriller that you cannot put down because you just HAVE to know what happens next, this is it! I seriously cannot recommend this book enough!

Second 5/5 star read of the year!! Many thanks Netgalley for my ARC copy!

And honestly? I don't mind telling you that this was one of the best psychologically suspenseful book I have read. I was hooked right away because I could immediately envision the house, the cars, the people...everything the author was describing came to mind easily. Some people will say this first part was going at a slower pace than they would like but I actually enjoyed that. I liked learning about who they were and how they came to be together. For awhile there, I thought I was going crazy right along with Brienne and I kept trying to figure out where the author was going to take this. Part one ends with you going "oooohhhhhh" and part two jumps right into a continuation, only from Niall's point of view. At no point was I ever 100% correct on what was going to actually happen because there were so many twists and turns all the way throughout. I will definitely read more from this author.

Psychological thrillers are not my typical genre because I tend to get too scared. However, the synopsis for ‘When I Was You’ by Minka Kent intrigued me and drew me in as it set up a mystery that begged the question of ‘what is actually going on?’… and fortunately, it did not sound too scary.

Brienne is a very wealthy young woman, who rents out space in her home to Niall. She has extremely limited interaction with anyone else, as she has become rather reclusive, after an attack the year before. Early in the book, Brienne realizes that someone out in the world seems to be impersonating her. As she investigates the situation, Brienne starts to uncover clues that do not add up. Just as Brienne’s confusion increases, Kent has masterfully constructed the narrative in such a way to leave the audience guessing as well. Has Brienne’s identity been stolen? Has she gone mad? Is this a case of gaslighting or is she an unreliable narrator? This book reads like a riveting Lifetime movie. It also reminded me of ‘A Beautiful Mind’ where for a good chunk of the plot, it was difficult to discern fact from fiction. Be assured there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing up to the end.

This is a complex book with a few plot holes, but generally an engaging thriller. Anyone interested in figuring out the truth should give it a read. In closing, I would like to express my thanks to NetGalley, Thomas and Mercer, and Minka Kent for access to this book, in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 rounded up - Not my favorite by this author.

I like the way this author writes and generally enjoy her characters. This story had a great premise but fell a bit short for me. I expect some questionable decisions and the occasional coincidence but this had too many of each. Just was a bit too far fetched...

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Harlequin Trade Publishing (US & Canada) for a copy in exchange for a review.

The author has taken a few usual tropes and turned them into a hard-to-believe 'psychological suspense' novella. It's not done well.

What makes this book different from all the others? Well, is a thriller full of tricks. I know, choking right?
This is the best advice I can possibly give you if you're thinking about give it a chance: don't stop reading it, seriously. I know it can be slow at the beginning but I promise you is mostly worth it.
Multiple times I thought I had all figured it out but Minka Kent prove me wrong all along Brienne's story. Like seriously, I'm not any expert in thrillers but I didn't saw any of the main plot twist coming (and tbh not even the small ones). Brienne's story really tricked me and tbh I liked it.
I get why a lot of people say "Why doesn't she just call the cops? Is she dumb?" and my answer for you is, duuh....! You can see from the beginning how traumatized she is, and people who have gone through rough times can't argue with me that anxiety-depression combo is not your best ally to deal with any kind of crap.
Overall, I enjoyed this read and if you're into being tricked so will you.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh this book was good. Twisty turny I was sucked in from the get go. I love a unreliable narrator. This book was done well I didn’t even pick up on the major twist until it was spelled out for me. Amazing. Will read anything this author puts out!

REVIEW:
This was a light psychological thriller with a slow build for me. Once it picked up in part 2 I was way more invested and went through it really quick. Altough predictable I did really enjoy the two alternating points of view of Brienne and Niall but found their relationship & characters to be a bit wierd and struggled with believing in them.

SYNOPSIS:
Brienne Dougray survies a brutal attack & now rarely leaves her house. Suffering memory loss, her kind newtenant, Dr. Niall Emberlin, is a welcome distraction & comfort that has become her existence.

But then Brienne discovers someone is pretending to be her, to find out why and who Brienne must leave the safety of her home to find out ...

When I Was You turned out to be a pretty good thriller. Though it was pretty predictable, I enjoyed the story that was full of twists and turns. The chapters are short, which made the pacing feel quick. Minka Kent did a great job at developing the characterization of both Brienne and Niall. The story line was a little crazy, and reminded me of a Lifetime movie, but I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the book was.
