Another episode in the adventures of Frank and Sarah Malloy. This time, a nasty gangster has shown up dead and Malloy's assistent, Gino, is accused of the murder. Entertaining and very, very, "cosy." While there were some interesting historical tidbits, there was also a lot of filler and frankly, the answer to the mystery was pretty obvious from the start.

In this latest installment in the Gaslight Series, Private detective Frank Malloy and his wife Sarah, are called to investigate the kidnapping of a volunteer from a settlement house in Little Italy. The neighborhood has been plagued by kidnapping and extortion from members of the “Black Hand” and they are suspected in the disappearance as well. Since members of the community are afraid to contact the police and also suspect they will not do anything, Frank and his employee Gino Donatelli pay a visit on the suspected head of the “Black Hand” who assures them that he did not kidnap the young woman and that she will show up soon. The woman does indeed return but Gino decides to confront the crime boss to find out what he knows about the children kidnapped from the neighborhood. Just as he discovers the murdered body, police show up and arrest him. Sarah and Frank must find the murderer to clear Gino.

I always look forward to Victoria Thompson's books from any of her series. I think I'm partial to Sarah & Frank because they were the first ones I read. I was a little disappointed in this one. The story line was thin and I was able to figure it out early on. I will still continue to read her books and hopefully she will return to presenting a more interesting mystery.

I have loved the Sarah and Frank story was n this series and am excited to see Maeve and Gino getting bigger storylines. This time a Black Hand leader is murdered and they must prove Gino innocent.

This is Victoria Thompsons twenty-third book in the Gaslight Mystery Series. I have been enjoying her characters for many years and this is a great continuation of the story. This book follows the Malloy Family and their race to clear a friend of a murder charge. As they investigate the case, the long a waited start of a more in-depth look at supporting characters relationship begins. I enjoyed the new plot and can't wait to see where Ms. Thompson will take us in the next installment of the Gaslight Mysteries.
