I’m still in shock from this book. It reads like women’s fiction but as you get further into the story you get the sense that a thriller is starting is setting up. Eleanor has endured a terrible childhood at the hands of her mother. Her one source of support was her father but he is nearing the end of his life. Just before he passes away she discovers that he is not her biological father after all and she has a high-powered family out there. After she develops a relationship with her half-sister (unbeknownst to her) the situation starts to spin out of control. Just when you think you know what is going on and where the story is headed, it all takes a sharp turn. This book is a fast read because you just need to know what is coming next. This will be a perfect summer thriller and if you haven’t read her past work, The Neighbors, make sure to put that on your reading list too.

Thank you to Hannah Mary McKinnon, Harlequin, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 stars. A quick read with some twists I didn’t see coming. The book starts out feeling like it’s not much of a thriller but after the 40% mark it starts to take off. The ending was pretty great and definitely unexpected for me! Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was amazing! It was well written and had me from the first chapter. The characters were great and the ending caught me off guard completely! I highly recommend reading this book. It was by far one of my favorites of this year!

I finished this book so quickly! There are so many evil characters in this book. My disdain for them and my sympathy for Eleanor kept me emotionally invested. I loved the number of shocking reveals. Finally, the way that the book ends is different than how thrillers normally end. I'll just leave it at that.

From my blog: Always With a Book:

This is the second book I've read by Hannah Mary McKinnon and I am just blown away by her writing. I loved the last book I read by her, Her Secret Son, but this latest one is even better...she definitely stepped up her game with this one!

I love a good twisty thriller, and this one is just so well-crafted it completely sucks you in. It's dark and wickedly entertaining, filled with obsession, manipulation and just the right amount of devious behavior from our flawed characters.

I loved the choice of narrators - having Eleanor be the sole narrator was perfect. She is complex, yet not the strongest character you will meet. She is reeling from the death of her father, who she has just found out is not her real dad. Not having a strong relationship with her mother, she is desperate to find a family that may welcome her with open arms. If only that were the case. What follows is a case of jealousy that turns dark and takes on a life of it's own.

This book is completely addicting. Once I started reading it, I had a hard time putting it down...I just had to see what was going to happen next and I could not bear to stop reading it. It's one of those books where you think you know where things are headed but you could not be more wrong - and I love that. I love being proven wrong time and again. And that ending...OMG! That totally floored me, in the best way...and I would love nothing more than to see a sequel come from this book, but then again...maybe not. Maybe we just need to have the ending be that and let our imaginations wonder what happens next.

This is one book I know I won't stop thinking about and will definitely be recommending to all my thriller-loving friends! Hannah Mary McKinnon is absolutely a must-read author for me and I cannot wait to see what comes next from her. Have you read her books yet? If not, what are you waiting for?

Fast paced book with many twists. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I realized I was wrong! Enjoyed it.

Sister Dear was a fantastic book that was hard to put down. When Eleanor's dad passes away, she finds out he is not her biological father. Eleanor finds out that a "high society" man is. She confronts her mother who confirms paternity. Eleanor confronts her "father" and he turns her away.

Eleanor will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING to work her way into her family.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sister Dear is a fantastic psychological thriller! I loved Eleanor from the beginning, and as the story unfolded and she evolved, I loved her even more. Her uncertainties, her doubts, but also her strengths really spoke to me.
The way she only wanted to belong, and be loved for who she was.

I’ve been a huge fan of Hannah Mary McKinnon ever since I read The Neighbors and this book made me love her even more! I had so many emotions going through this book it was insane. The ending left me so speechless I had to contact Hannah to discuss! It left me completely floored!

I really fell in love with the protagonist, I loved how she was flawed and how we got to witness her transformation throughout the book. This book was full of secrets, lies, and twists!

I don’t say this lightly, but this book made me fall back in love with reading! This might be my number 1 book of 2020! A.must.read

There's not many books that I read that I dont like. This isn't one. I couldn't get into this story. I really liked the blurb and cover but reading it, it wasn't a thriller too me. It was more of womens fiction. I also didnt care for the characters at all. Idk, this book just wasnt for me.

Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Even though I enjoyed this book as I was reading it I kept trying to figure out why it was a marketed as a thriller. I mean, I really enjoyed it, it just felt more like Women's Fiction to me.

Then things got crazy and then they got really crazy and then I was doing that thing where I was walking around my house reading as I went, hoping no one needed anything because I couldn't set it down for a minute.

It just got better and better!

Thank you to Hannah Mary McKinnon, HARLEQUIN, and NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. I was immediately drawn in to Eleanors story. I guessed the twists, but that didn't detract from the story. The ending was spectacular!

A flawed protagonist, characters who aren't what they seem, layers of secrets, and one hell of a twist ending! I had trouble putting this one down.

I LOVED this book and tore through it all in a matter of hours.

I love messed up female narrators who seem beyond ruined all repair, and all the messed up and inevitably disastrous things they do for ambition, revenge, or secrets. This has become a very popular character in women thrillers, and I'm living for it. I've read McKinnon's other books (and really enjoyed them!), but this is by far her strongest so far. Highly recommend!

First off I want to thank @netgalley, @harlequin & Hannah Mary Mckinnon for my free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I truly wanted to love this one but I absolutely hated it. It was really dragging, nothing happening, nothing developing.

The characters were unlikeable, they actually annoyed me. The first 50% of the book is getting into the story and the other 50% nothing truly happens to make the reader invested and on the edge of his seat. The ending was truly predictable.

This was not the book for me, it was predictable and boring to me unfortunately. I really did want to love it but it fell flat.

Dark twisty thriller. I really liked the plot and story line and I thought it was well written and an easy, quick read. I enjoyed it. Thank you publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

Oh yes, this is my kind of thriller! I love despicable characters, secret pasts, and revenge stories (not sure what that says about me though)! Eleanor's father dies and in his last few minutes he reveals he's not her biological dad but gives her a name. Estranged from her (literally) wicked mother and sister, Eleanor is determined to find her father as she desires a connection with family. Unfortunately, Stan wants nothing to do with her but once she discovers she has a half-sister, she hopes maybe they can be close so she insinuates herself into Victoria's life. Of course things don't go according to plan, well at least not HER plan. So things spiral out of control and there are plenty of twists to keep you reading until the end!

I love this genre, but this story just didn't work for me. I had a hard time liking Eleanor or Lewis.I found them weak characters and hard to root for. I wasn't a fan of the ending, either. It wasn't what I'd expect for this genre. It started off okay, but too many parts were too predictable. Too slow, too predictable, too unlikeable characters, two stars.

This novel is an addictive read from beginning to end. While Eleanor's father is in hospital about to pass away, she finds out that he isn't her biological father. Eleanor cuts ties with her mother and sister who have treated her awful for her whole life. On the course of finding her biological father, she finds that he is married, with a daughter very close to her own age, and that his family have it all - prestige, wealth, a good home.

After approaching her biological father at his workplace one day, he rejects her and wants nothing to do with her and doesn't want her in his or his new family's lives. Shunned and heart broken, Eleanor decides to find and befriend her half-sister Victoria. They are the same age, Victoria is beautiful, lives in a gorgeous home, has money, and is happily married. Eleanor decides to keep her identity and connection to Victoria a secret, at least for now, and the two quickly hit it off and become quite close friends in a short time. Eleanor is thrilled that they seem to have hit it off so nicely, and is unsure how to reveal her true identity to her half-sister afraid of what Victoria will think of her, and she now doesn't want to lose the friendship that they have built.

An addictive read that will hook you in and keep you hooked until you turn the very last page. With shocking twists, turns and surprises, and several revelations that will shock you, and leaves you with a plot twist at the end that you will not see coming! An amazing book that is hands down one of my favourites of this year!

I just read this 2 days ago, and honestly couldn't remember enough to write a review. I had to go back and read the "about". That being said, this book took a lot to finish. I didn't like any of the characters...and the story....I had no idea where it was going or why.

Not a favorite. Sorry, but I was given an ARC from netgalley for an honest review.
