Really interesting premise and I enjoyed the storytelling, the characters were interesting and kept me guessing even though I had my suspicions about various secrets and goings on. I was hooked, a very enjoyable read.

This story is told from two perspectives: Alex, a child protective social worker, and her older sister Ruth, who shows up unexpectedly at Alex’s door after a silent, ten year absence. The book is full of twists and thick with tension, as their stories unravel. Recommended!

I’m still gasping. This book is one of those that you will flip through at a furious pace to finish, and you’ll find yourself gasping, gripped with anxiety, and maybe even shedding a tear.

I can’t even talk more about it, because I’m afraid I’ll spoil it. Just know that this is going to be a HUGE hit when it’s released this summer, and you’ll want to get it on it early.

This was also my first Roz Nay book, and I can’t wait to read her other work.

I wasn't a fan of Roz Nay's first book (despite the hype) but I figured she was worth another shot. Sadly, I don't think it was worth it. It took me a good while to get into this book, and once I did, it was hard to figure out exactly what it was trying to be. The "mystery" was easily solved, and actually took too long to wrap up. This one just didn't work for me.

I really enjoyed this psychological, family thriller. A lot of the reviews I have read have talked about all the crazy plot twists in this novel. I don’t know if it’s just because of the things I’ve been through in life or not, but I knew exactly where this book was going from page 1. I’m not saying that in a bad way and I do think the book was designed for plot twists, but I also felt that for me, it was very obvious from the beginning where the story was going. I think it’s great that more and more novels like this are coming out that show the world people who are like this. I especially enjoyed this one because of 1) who the characters were professionally and 2) because of the relationship between the two sisters and how even though one was so clearly wrong, the storyline clearly portrayed how strong the love was for her from the healthy/normal sister.

I thought the plot line and backstory were well written and well thought out. The characters were fleshed out well and their stories and relationships were interesting. Overall, this was a very interesting and thought provoking read. I highly recommend it.

I absolutely loved this read. Just when I had made all of my opinions about the characters of this novel, my mind changed in an instant with new and surprising information. Hurry Home kept me on my toes from page one - I finished this read in a day - and I loved every second of it.

Having a sister, Hurry Home made me question what I would do if I found myself in Alex and Ruth’s situation. An impossible situation of love, betrayal and loyalty. Are you ready to do anything for your sister? Do you truly know the people you love the most? Are you ready to give up everything?

I loved this read and can’t wait for the next.

Wow- this book was a twister right up until the last page- love love loved it. The writing is brilliant as the author meticulously peels back the onion layers with alternating narration by two sisters marked by a childhood tragedy that led them to be estranged for 10 years.

Out of the blue, older sister Ruth shows up at Alex’s house pregnant and on the run from an abusive drug dealing boyfriend. Alex has worked hard to escape the past and get her life on track -she has a wonderful charming pro athlete boyfriend and works diligently as a child welfare agent.

However, as each sister tells her side of the story, things become murky- someone is not telling the truth. Shades of ‘Gone Girl ‘ here as the reader isn’t sure who to believe. Roped into the sister drama are two impossibly nice guys - Chase- the goofy sweet Snowboarder and Sully the handsome intellectual police officer- both of which are madly in love with Alex.
The book deals with some heavy topics drugs, abuse and the neglect and death of a child, but the fast pace of the story keeps moving forward rather than lingering.

Highly recommend for book clubs. Lots to discuss here.

This is my first completed book of 2020 and Roz Nay nailed it.

Before this book I used to wish I had a sister. Not anymore.

Alex Van Ness is leading a wonderful life. She has a job with CPS and her model boyfriend is about as perfect as they come. Until one day there is a knock at her door. Ruth.

Ruth is her older sister and all around troublemaker. They have been estranged for many years and Alex can't help but wonder why she has come to look for her now. She claims she wants to make amends and become sisters again but Alex is wary and perhaps she should be.

I really can't discuss the plot too much because you will be so much better off going into this blind. I really didn't have high expectations for this book, not sure why as I loved her debut, but this turned out to be so much more satisfying than I could have ever expected so much so that I'm kicking myself for not picking this up sooner.

And you know what? Since this is my first book of 2020 I'm going to go ahead and give this one ALL THE STARS!!! May it set the bar for my future reads this year.

This book was not what I expected at all! The tension between the sisters over past traumas and experiences is nearly palpable as they move towards a weird but satisfying conclusion. Roz Nay tells this story in alternating perspectives, which makes it difficult to discern the truth between two versions of the same sad story. This uncertainty lasts throughout the whole book until the lies and red herrings are sorted out in a way that is a complete surprise to the reader. I enjoyed this book wholeheartedly and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author!

The first chapter of this book was tough and I thought I wasn’t goin* to like it. But as soon as I started to get through it I sped through it because it was so good.

It starts with Alex, who is a CPS officer and her boyfriend Chase. And then Suddenly Alex’s sister who she hasn’t seen in 10 years shows up to say she’s pregnant with no explanation.

As the story goes on, you see how Alex handles her long lost sister and why they haven’t spoken to each other. As well as a case that she has been handling beginning in the first chapter.

This was a really good book. Alex and Ruth are sisters, and haven’t seen each other for over 10 years. Ruth shows up at Alex’s door step, pregnant and in trouble. Each chapter shows snippets of the past and each sister places blame on the other. Which one is the psycho? Who is telling the truth? I was a little shocked at the ending. The only thing that bothered me a little, is that each chapter is told by with Ruth or Alex and sometimes I would have to go back to see which one it was, because I would get a little confused. All in all, a good book.

I did not expect this book to become a five star read for me. Although the blurb sounded interesting enough to request it, this type of family drama is not really my favorite genre and seldom more than 'just entertaining'.

(Little side-note to the publishers, not really relevant to this review: there is something wrong with the blurb on Goodreads: in the book there is no mention of a local child that's 'gone missing' at all...)

Roz Nay took me by surprise. I loved the way the story is told by both sisters, Alex and Ruth, the way it made me realize through the discrepancies between their stories that one (or both) of them is not a reliable narrator, and the way it became clear that their past had a huge impact on both of their lives and their relationship to one another. I liked how the things that happened in the past are revealed bit by bit, and how my own expectations for the rest of the book shifted accordingly.

At the start of the book, I sympathized with both sisters and I really rooted for them to come to terms with whatever happened in their past and be brought back together by the events in the present. As the story developed and it became clear one sisters' personality made that highly unlikely, I wanted to find out what she was planning exactly. Although I can't say the ending took me by surprise at all, by the time I had figured everything out I was invested enough to really want to know how exactly everything would develop. I was unable to put the book down during those last chapters (even though hours had passed since I'd gone to bed quite early because I was really tired...).

This book is very well written and emotionally charged. I read it in one sitting and it left me feeling tense the entire time because of the twists and turns it takes.

Hurry Home is quite different from most psychological thrillers that I have read in that there is no murder to be solved and no terrorizing or fear of physical harm woven throughout the book. Alex is a social worker whose job is to protect at-risk children and is living an ideal life - beautiful with a great boyfriend and a great home. Then sister, Ruth, shows up - pregnant and needing a place to stay. Story goes back and forth between story-telling from both Alex and Ruth's perspectives and is sometimes confusing because of this. Talk about 2 totally different realities!! Is definitely worth reading and you are drawn in as the true character of each sister is revealed. Very much enjoyed the book and appreciated the lack of gratuitous profanity. Would definitely read another book from this author. A good family mystery that had me questioning who I thought was telling the truth. And, just when I thought that I had it all figured out, something would happen that would throw me off again. I enjoyed the fact that the story didn't seem super predicable (to me).

First off, this book is extremely predictable. When you know, or when you have figured out halfway through the book what is going on it does make it somewhat difficult to continue reading. That being said, I did like the two characters going back-and-forth giving their point of view about their growing up and the situations they find themselves in. It was a bit unbelievable, certainly not my favorite domestic drama. Thank you for my advance copy .

This was my 1st reading of this author. I almost felt it a bit confusing, between the sisters (which is telling the truth? who is the good, or bad sister? what is their ultimate intention?).....for the 1st 3/4 of the book.......it just didn't have me overly invested/enthused.... I thought it an odd/unusual setting/story line? But the final 1/4 of the book picked up to a quicker pace, & that made it more of an enjoyable read. I don't think I'd say it was 'predictable'.....because it didn't really go how I might've thought it would....so I'd have to say that's a positive point. Another positive point is that it was put together in short, easily managed chapters, making it ultimately a pretty fast read.

Wow. This is a fabulous read that kept me engrossed throughout the whole story. Told from two sisters perspectives my opinions just kept changing by each chapter! This is a clever and very well written book and I loved the sisters take on events and how their personalities really shine through by the end. This story really took me by surprise and kept me gripped to the very last page. Brilliantly written and a must read
