This one was just okay. Frustrating, infuriating and hard to read - a lot of the time. I didn't like either character. Alex was self righteous and rude. Ruth was flighty and deceiving - it was hard to like or trust either. Chase was an interesting character and Sully was okay, but all in all it was near impossible to actually 'want' to read the story. It would have been interesting if there had been some gray area, some reason to kind of like or at least not completely dislike both sisters but I was left not really rooting for anyone.

as a former CASA (Court Appointed Special advocate for kids in the social services system) over multiple states, this one just pushed all my buttons. I wish I'd liked it more.

Definitely dark. So many secrets and so many lies. This had me reading well into the night as it reached its conclusion. Highly recommended.

A really nice read. Nothing too deep and slightly predictable but if you’re in the mood for a book you can read with ease this is for you. Would I read any more of this author’s books? Yes. 4/5.

I love sister stories. Whether its drama, long distance, good relationships, bad relationships, mysteries, any kind of story. I think it’s because I have a sister myself so that I’m able to relate a lot.

This sister story was not my favorite unfortunately. I believe it’s because this is classified as a thriller and I didn’t really get that from this book. This was more about the sister relationship and how you could just feel the drama between them.

I thought this story was interesting, but it didn’t really give me the surprise or mystery that I was looking for. The interest from this story comes from the fact that you are curious on why these two ladies have the relationship that they do.

The thing I liked about this novel was the slow burn aspect. You do find yourself sitting there wondering when something will happen or when the other shoe is going to drop. I was able to guess the ending, but I will say it was pretty interesting getting there.

Overall, it wasn’t my favorite book in the world, but it wasn’t the worst either. I think that if it was more of a thriller like it was classified, I would’ve enjoyed it more. There isn’t anything necessarily wrong with this book, I just went in with a different expectation!

This one started off one way and then turned around completely! I wasn't expecting to hate the main character by the end of the book but that's what happened. It was suspenseful and hard to put down once the plot picked up. Some parts were a bit predictable but all in all, I enjoyed the story.

Alex - the angelic younger sister - has a good life, a great job as a social worker, willing to go above and beyond for every child whose case lands on her desk, and in a loving relationship with Chase.

Ruth - the trouble making older sister, pregnant and on the run.

Ruth shows up at her sister's door, having been estranged from her for many years. Alex isn't particularly happy to see her but takes her in nonetheless and both sisters seem committed to building bridges between them.

However, old wounds, a family trauma and long kept secrets continue to haunt them both. Their versions of their childhood vary wildly - who is telling the truth?

Told in alternating chapters, the voices of Ruth and Alex and their personalities really come through. Neither sister is particularly likeable and this adds to the story - who will garner your sympathy and support as you read on?

A well written, quick read with a couple of twists and a tense build up to the reveal. 4/5🌟

A twisty novel of two sisters, both of whom are hiding big secrets.
Alex is a social worker who is determined to help every child whose cases cross her desk. Usually, this is ideal for a social worker, but Alex is hiding more than one secret and is determined to not let the past repeat itself. Her version of the past, at least.
When her older sister Ruth shows up on her doorstep pregnant and with nothing, Alex is wary f the changes Ruth claims to have made. In Alex's eyes, Ruth is still the same teenager that abandoned her in Horizon, South Dakota, twenty years ago. Desperate, Ruth makes every effort to show her sister that she's changed. But she too has brought secrets with her. Trying to outrun her past, Ruth agrees to Alex's terms of never bringing up their childhood with Alex's boyfriend, Chase. But the longer Ruth stays with Alex and Chase, the more she realises Alex is still the same lying, manipulative, scared woman she was growing up, and that she's left a lot out of any information she's shared with Chase.
Nay does an excellent job spinning a story that twists and turns, and you can't put down. Hurry Home is a quick read, but kept me guessing until the end. Definitely recommend this one!

I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Two sisters lives collide when years apart and distance between the two of them suddenly brings them face to face. Old wounds, family trauma and current criminal behavior sets off the powder keg of hurt and pain for them both. Fast paced thriller with serious side effects. You may not want to share this one with your sister. Keep it to yourself.
Triggers: drugs, violence, implied rape, family violence, child welfare

Wow, what an excellent read with lots of twists! The complex dynamic between Ruth and Alex was fun to read. There were so many parts of the story which left me breathless with anticipation that I felt as if I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I will definitely read more books by this talented author!

A thriller told about two sisters with a troubled past and the secrets they could expose. An intense read.

I enjoyed Hurry Home by Roz Nay and would recommend it to fans of the mystery/suspense and domestic drama genres.

Alex VanNess is living an idyllic life; she has a good looking boyfriend with whom she shares a loft in a Colorado mountain town and a fulfilling career as a child protection worker.  When Alex's sister Ruth turns up on her doorstep seeking refuge from her bad decisions, Alex considers it par for the course and tells Ruth she will help her under one condition - that they never discuss their past.

Told in alternating chapters between Alex and Ruth's perspectives, Hurry Home is a slow burn of a domestic drama that gradually reveals the sisters' shared history.  It was a quick read and the tension building was well executed as the layers of the sisters' story were slowly peeled back.

"Alexandra Van Ness has a perfect life. She lives in an idyllic resort town tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, shares a designer loft with her handsome boyfriend, Chase, and has her dream job working in child protection. Every day, Alex goes above and beyond to save children at risk.

But when her long-lost sister, Ruth, unexpectedly shows up at her door, Alex's perfect life is upended. Growing up, Ruth was always the troublemaker, pulling Alex into her messes, and this time will be no different. Still, Alex will help Ruth under one condition: we will never, ever, talk about the past. But when a local child goes missing, both women are forced to confront the secrets they've promised to keep buried."

Loved this new novel by Roz Nay, for me it was more a mystery-family drama than a thriller. It´s better if you go into this one knowing just the basics of the summary, there are a couple of twists and turns, is a fascinating story with a well-developed ending.

Sisters have secrets. Trust me. I have 4 sisters and have secrets with each of them. Like, how someone was arrested once when I was in the car....etc.

Hurry Home is the story of two sisters - one with a good job and handsome boyfriend and one who is older and more of a.....'troublemaker''. When the troublemaker returns, so does the trouble, with the strict agreement that they never talk about the past. The past, however, didn't agree.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.

Hurry Home by Roz Nay is really more of a domestic suspense novel than a thriller for the biggest part of the story. This tale of two reconciled sisters changes the point of view between them to dive right into all their secrets and lies.

Alexandra Van Ness has been leading a wonderful life with her perfect live in boyfriend and her job at CPS where she devotes all of her time saving children in need. Alex however has her perfect world turned upside down when her sister who she hasn’t seen in years turns up on her doorstep.

Alex really didn’t even know if Ruth was still alive after not seeing her all these years and her rough past that Alex escaped. Ruth however is very much alive and now pregnant with no where to go. As hesitant as Alex is she invites Ruth into her home but will she regret it?

Hurry Home was really another of those books that make me crave a nice bowl of popcorn to sit back and enjoy as the drama unfolds. It’s always addicting to me to sit back and wait for all the secrets and lies to unfold in a story like this and Hurry Home was no exception to that. With quite a few twists and turns I found this one to be quite an enjoyable read.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Alex is a child protection social worker. She pours her heart and soul into protecting children from abusive parents, neglect. She's willing to do just about anything to defend these children.

Her sister, Ruth, shows up unexpectedly ... they haven't been in contact for 10 years. During their childhood, Ruth was always the troublemaker, involving her sister. Not much has changed. Ruth is in trouble ... pregnant .. and on the run from her drug dealer boyfriend. Ruth grabbed a lot of drugs and a lot of cash when she left.

Alex's boyfriend knows little of her upbringing. So when Ruth starts talking about their childhood ... their stories don't exactly match.

Who's lying? Why? What is it that neither of them want revealed?

There's no love lost between the sisters as this well-written story bounces back and forth between the girls and between times ... childhood and adulthood. I didn't particularly like either of the sisters. Even the secondary characters made me cringe for one reason or another.... because they were written skillfully enough to evoke my emotions. The plot is a bit complex, but riveting. The ending was totally unexpected.

Whoa! What happens in this novel is every mother’s worst nightmare and fear, including my own. Be warned, this book is crazy good but it will get you right in the gut.

It starts out on sure-footing, but doubt and chaos slowly creep in and before you know it, you can’t tell who is wrong or right, or what’s up or down. From the beginning, I sensed something was off, but the author has a way of assuaging those niggling thoughts and making the questionable seem justifiable. There was no way to tell where it was going and each page peels back another layer of deceit or revelation. Only until the very end can you (maybe?) be completely sure that everything has been explained and ironed it out, but you’re still left wondering.

Save this book for a lazy weekend or relaxing vacation because you won’t want to put it down.

Thank you, Crooked Lane Books, for this copy for an honest review.

A very interesting story that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering just whose truth is real. We all remember things differently but some of us color our memories to suit ourselves. Families can be very dysfunctional too so there's an added intrigue as well. Then you add in our other relationships with significant others and coworkers etc. and what we choose to show them. So many different faces to present and so many different stories to tell. This one involves the past and the present and the fate of several different children. Very gripping story!

From my blog: Always With a Book:

I was fortunate to meet Roz Nay at Bouchercon last fall and able to tell her how much I loved her debut novel, Our Little Secret, so of course, I could not wait to get my hands on her sophomore book...and let me just tell you...it's fantastic!!! I could not read this book fast enough.

I am always a fan of books that involve any type of family drama and when it involves sisters, I am all over it! Maybe it's because I have two sisters myself - I also have four brothers, but that's besides the point - but this book just spoke to me. What would happen if I was estranged from one of my sisters and she just showed up? Then as the story moves forward, you get the sense that not all is as it seems.

I loved that the story is told from alternating points of view and we get both sisters' perspectives of what is going on. But this just provides more questions because you really start to wonder who to believe. The story also moves back and forth in time as we get flashbacks to when the sisters were young. This is a crucial part of the story and I was on pins and needles waiting to find out what really had happened. Again, much like a jigsaw puzzle, pieces are slowly given to us and it is up to us as the reader to see how they fit together.

I love a book that challenges me and this one kept me on my toes. I had to flip back a few times to check on things because this one really keeps you thinking. I was wavering back and forth about how I felt about each of the sisters and I definitely did not see the big reveal coming AT ALL! It totally took me by surprise and I loved that.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It's a book you will absolutely be able to binge-read because once you start reading, you are definitely not going to want to put it down. It's completely all-consuming and will have you scratching your head as to what is going on in the best way. Roz Nay is now a must-read for me and I cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!

Happy Early Pub Day Roz!
4/5 Stars!

Pub day tomorrow for this new thriller! This book is about keeping secrets hidden in the past, and the family ties that bind. The book takes place in an idyllic resort town – and has some great atmosphere. A woman’s seemingly perfect life is totally shaken by the arrival of a long lost sister, whose presence threatens to ruin everything.

What would you do, or not do, for a family member? The book confronts the deep bonds of sisterhood, and loyalty – even when it means confronting dangerous secrets. It is filled with dilemmas that will leave your head spinning. It is a bit of a slow burn, but you won’t be disappointed. This was a very entertaining (but highly disturbing) family drama with a deep mystery at the core. I enjoyed this one and I think you will too! Thanks to Roz and the folks at Simon & Schuster for my NetGalley copy in exchange for an honest review.

I need to preface this review with letting everyone know I currently work in the Child Welfare field, so my opinions of this book are probably different than a lot of other people’s.

This book is advertised as a thriller but I am not entirely sure if I would put it in that category. It is more like a family drama/maybe domestic thriller. I wasn’t really on the edge of my seat for this one as a lot of the book was predictable.

The main characters of the book, Alex and Ruth, two sisters, are the absolute definition of unreliable narrators. Throughout the book, I wasn’t sure who was telling the truth. Initially I thought I knew who was telling the truth but then I realized who was actually telling the truth.

I am worried this book may paint a negative light on the Child Welfare field. I can’t go too deep into this as there may be some spoilers involved. Some decisions made would never be made by actual social workers. The book does a good job in the beginning describing the Child Welfare system. A lot of it was accurate, including the removal process, the meetings and the supervised visitations. I would not want Alex to be a social worker for any of my clients. Her decisions made me feel icky as I was reading.

Overall, this was a quick and easy read. I read someone else describe the book as fast paced and a slow burn at the same time, I think that is a great way to describe it.
