📖Book Review📖
Hurry Home by Roz Nay was such a twisty thriller that I’m still suffering from a bit of whiplash!
.
2 sisters that have been estranged for years come back together when older sister Ruth shows up on Alexandra’s door step, in trouble...again. Alex is living her best life: happy in her career as a child protection officer, loving her sexy, former athlete boyfriend, and adored the beautiful home they share. Ruth turns up unannounced with very few belongings, needing a place to stay and her sister’s help. Alex knows she can’t trust her sister but she has to help her, she’s pregnant. Alex feels obliged to save all children, that’s why she’s so good at her job.
.
The story is told from each sister’s POV and as it turns out both sisters have some pretty dark secrets. This author took unreliable narrators to the next level, I had no idea who to trust! Toward the end, I saw the twist coming but was so invested in who the villain was...and why, I had to watch it play out.
.
If these sisters were my family, I’d be in witness protection. No one is safe, not even the poor baby. Nothing about these family dynamics are what they seem!
.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quick, binge read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one goes on sale 7/7/20! Thank you @netgalley and @crookedlanebooks for an advanced copy of the book for my honest review.

4.5 STARS - Hurry Home is one of those books where I don't want to say too much about the plot because I'm afraid I'll say too much and spoil it for other readers. What I can say is that this is one twisty, character-focused ride that leaves readers wondering what exactly is going on between estranged sisters Alex and Ruth who are each trying to keep their dark secrets hidden.

Told from the perspectives of both Alex and Ruth, this is a disturbing story about two sisters with a mysterious past which is slowly and tauntingly revealed to the reader. Normally, I'm not a slow burn kinda gal, but this time I was utterly hooked and eager to find out what exactly had transpired between the sisters to cause them to be so at odds. There are some predictable bits, but they are balanced with satisfying twists and well-drawn, yet unreliable narrators that had me switching my allegiance between them, making me wonder which sister was telling the truth and which was lying.

Part domestic thriller, part slow-burn and definitely a character study in the connection between dysfunctional sisters, Hurry Home is a story about manipulation, dark family secrets you can't outrun and lies, lies, lies. This was my first book by Roz Nay and it won't be my last. I cannot wait to play catch up and read her debut novel, Our Little Secret as I impatiently eagerly wait to see what she comes up with next.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This was a nice easy read with some twists that I didn’t expect. It’s a story about two sisters (Ruth and Alex) who have major family trust issues. Ruth comes back after disappearing 10 years earlier and all the secrets from their past start to come out. Both Ruth and Alex were super annoying at times, as well as Chase....but he grew on me by the end. I think my favorite character was Sully. I wouldn’t say this was the most suspenseful mystery I’ve read but there were some unexpected things that I didn’t see coming. But by 3/4 of the way through I had the ending pretty much predicted. Definitely worth the time to read and I’ll look for more by this author in the future.

I don't think thriller really fits this book. Long, drawn out sister drama, unbelievable dialogue in which people say nothing in very long ways, and a self-righteous social worker (seriously, she is so judgmental and her savior complex dangerous) make for a very annoying read. You would hope the ending might make it all worth it. You would be wrong.

I'm so glad I finally picked this e-ARC because I had no idea I needed this page turner right now. The book is told from the two different perspectives od the two different sisters Ruth and Alex, both hiding lies and trying to keep the past at bay. The story and truth unfold slowly but the writing just keeps you going on. As someone who's really picky about thrillers, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed Hurry Home. The ending was kind of predictable but there were good plot twists that kept me so curious till the very end of the book.

Clear your next rainy afternoon at home, grab a cup of coffee, and prepare yourself to be thrust into a resort town in the Rocky Mountains. Alexandra has it all, the job she loves, the boyfriend she loves, and the house she loves. Life is perfect until her estranged sister shows up on her porch. Alexandra will do anything to help her sister on the condition that the past is never discussed. Alex's hesitation to make amends is felt in the readers soul and you know you should be wary, wanting to shout send Ruth away. This book is full of surprises and your heart will be in your chest.

Thanks to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Once I started this book I had a really hard time putting it down and finished it in less than 24 hours!

Alex Van Ness is a social worker with the perfect life- a great boyfriend and a job she loves. One day her long lost sister, Ruth, shows up and secrets start coming out.

This book is fast paced and I couldn’t guess what was happening. Pleasantly surprised and I’ll be checking out more of this author’s books for sure.

I enjoyed reading this book! I was able to predict some of the ending, but there were some surprises along the way. Some of the dialogue was a bit choppy and seemed a bit juvenile, but I enjoyed the story and once I got into it it was fast paced! Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy!

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book just wasn't for me. It did not have that "thriller feel", and I got quite annoyed with the characters themselves. Plus, I think the dialogue was just immature. Gladly finished this to move onto another. The cover of this book is enticing, but that was about all it did for me.

What is it that Alex swore never to discuss and why is she estranged from her sister Ruth? Well, it's all about to come out. Alex is living the perfect life- nice place, good boyfriend in Chase, a good job in child protection. Ruth, not so much and, after many years, she's appeared on Alex's doorstep and she wants to stay. Here's the thing- Alex has to do it (doesn't she) and yet now she's in a big bind because she's got explaining to do. Things get very twisted and no spoilers from me because this is one that has to be experienced, not explained. Know that your views of the characters will shift as you read. Family dynamics make for the most interesting stories and Nay has written a whopper here. She's a good storyteller; I was a fan of her first novel and now I'm looking forward to the next one. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a page turner.

Oh, so deliciously chilling! Family dynamics are at their finest in this novel about two sisters who grow up to be the worst kind of adversaries. Alex and Ruth, separated by several years in age, experience an event in their childhood that cements a love/hate relationship that defines the rest of their lives. It is a page-turner, with twists and turns that you won't see coming. A definite choice read for the chiller mystery fan!

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read pre-pub in exchange for my honest opinion. I loved it!

After a family tragedy sisters Alexandra and Ruth became distant. Alexandra or called Alex has always looked down at her sister Ruth’s lifestyle filled with drugs and her unhealthy relationship with her boyfriend. She hasn’t seen Ruth and she prefers it that way. Alex who is now an adult and works as a social worker is living with her boyfriend Chase in a small town and fills her days trying to save children who are in abusive homes. One day Alex goes to answer the door and is shocked to see Ruth. Ruth who is on the run from an abusive drug dealer boyfriend and she’s pregnant. Alex doesn’t believe her when she says she done with drugs and wants to fix their relationship. Soon weeks go by and secrets from their past begins to surface and it appears that Ruth is intent on ruining Alex’s life and everything she’s worked so hard to accomplish. Told in alternating POV of Ruth and Alex each telling their own version of the same story you begin to wonder whose really telling the truth. With so many twists and turns you start questioning is this really happening? I flew through the book four stars!

Thank you to both the author and publisher for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.

The first thing that I found intriguing was a sister relationship with a dark past and secret. I found this to be a fast and easy read and I loved the relationship between the two sisters. This book was very interesting and I was constantly finding myself swiping my kindle to get to the next part of the book.

Unfortunately I did find the very ending a little disappointing and predictable but I look forward to reading more from this author.

Wow! A delicious pageturner about past, present, and family. No one is who they seem to be, so who can you trust? I ended up loving this story so much. I love it when books keep you guessing, and I had no idea how the end was going to turn out. I was almost literally glued to my Kindle for the hour and 20 minutes it took to read this one. Many thanks to Roz Nay, Netgalley, and the publisher for the advance copy!

The story of two sisters who haven’t seen each other in 10 years. One, Alex, is a social worker living with her model boyfriend. She’s haunted by her past but has carved out a life for herself and doesn’t want to look back. Her sister, Ruth, is a former drug addict who has always made bad choices.

This book is filled with some twists and turns. The characters are very well developed and the story flows at a great rate. It’s a page turner and will hold your interest. It’s hard to write what I want because of spoilers so I’ll keep it brief. This story is told from each sisters perspective and you will enjoy each. It’s one that may keep you up late reading. A definite page turner. While it was a bit predictable it was still a very good read.

Thank you #NetGalley, #SourceBooks, #RozNay for the ARC. This is my own review.

I give it 4 stars. I recommend this one.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books, and Roz Nay for the opportunity to read and review this book - wow! My head is literally still spinning after finishing this book! 5 stars for a twisty, twisty read that is riveting, heartbreaking, scary and just so good!

Alex is living the perfect life in Colorado. She has a wonderful boyfriend, Chase, a fabulous apartment, and she is the top worker in the local Child Protective Services office. Her boss knows that she will always put the child's needs first. But Alex's perfect life is upended when her sister, Ruth, shows up at her door pregnant, scared and alone. Ruth was always the troublemaker at home and left Alex alone when she left home.

That's enough of the storyline - you really need to go into this book as blind as possible. With chapters flipping between the points of view of both Alex and Ruth, you won't be able to stop turning the pages. Fabulous read and highly recommended!

A simple children's game leads to consequences that will destroy the family unit and fester over the years where truth and blame take on a life of there own. This is a powerful story with guilt, lies loss, love and redemption tested by all involved. Highly recommended. Another fantastic story by Roz Nay.

3.5 Stars rounded up to 4

Alexandra Van Ness works in child protection services in a quiet little town. She is fiercely protective of the children she oversees and becomes emotionally invested in every case. She fights hard to make sure any and every child is living in the environment that is right for them. She lives with her model boyfriend, Chase, in a beautiful loft style apartment and is extremely happy with her life. That all changes with a knock at the door and her world is turned upside down. Behind the door is her sister Ruth, who she hasn't seen in 10 years. Ruth brings her own baggage and also reminds Alex of some of her past mistakes. Pretty soon everyone in Alex's life starts to question the sisters about their past and why they haven't been in each other's lives for so long.

Despite the predictability of the book I still gave it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. The characters were very well developed and the story flowed well. It only took me 2 days to finish and I was invested the whole time. I was able to guess the ending pretty soon into the story, but there were still a few surprises which kept me guessing.

Blood is thicker than water. When Alex’s sister Ruth returns to town unexpectedly Alex is worried their past she has tried so hard to move forward from will come back to haunt her. As long as Ruth won’t tell anyone about their past, Alex is okay with her staying with them.

Written in both Alex and Ruth’s perspectives, differing between past and present events, the story twists and turns. Ruth and Alex have very different stories of the same events. Which recollection is correct and who has been living a lie?

Well written as you try to determine who is the manipulative sister. As the story unravels it becomes predictable but you see how far family will go to protect one another.
