This book is crazy! I feel like I said “What?!!” more often than not.
So we have two sisters. Alex is portrayed as the perfect, successful one. Ruth is portrayed as the crazy one who could never get her life straightened out. Right away you agree that Alex is a good sister. She's saving children from homes where the parents can't take care of them. Angel right?!
When Ruth shows up pregnant, supposably from her drug dealer boyfriend, Alex is reluctant to let her back into her life. It has been years since they have seen each other. However it's the past that holds them together. A secret they have to keep between themselves or else there will be dire consequences. Especially for Alex.
I went back and forth on which sister I thought was crazier. Alex is crazy! No! Ruth is crazier! I was over the back and forth thinking when by the time I finished this one. It turns out both are crazy, but one sister did it to protect the other sister from her demons of the past. That last page, those last words shouldn't have surprised me, but they did.

This was my first book by this author, and it certainly won't be my last. As soon as I heard about this book, I just knew I had to read it. Alex has the perfect life, the perfect job, and the perfect boyfriend. Her sister Ruth, is the complete opposite. Growing up, Ruth was always a trouble maker, and as Alex's older sister, she was a horrible role model. Alex thought Ruth was dead, so when she showed up at her door, of course Alex had to let her in. Only this time, their relationship comes with rules, Ruth under zero circumstances is allowed to EVER talk about their childhood. The longer Ruth stays with Alex, the quicker Alex's life starts spiraling out of control. Luckily, going into this one, I wasn't expecting a thriller but more of a family drama, and family drama is exactly what I got.
.
There is something I just love about a character driven novel, and this one did not disappoint. This is filled with multiple puzzle pieces, that we slowly have to put back together, to understand exactly who these sisters are. This was such a fun mystery to try and solve, while also, learning how messed up the girls childhood was. Would you carry your sisters lies to the grave? Even if it meant taking you down first? Which sister is going to break first? So a fun little mystery this one was, predictable at times, but fun nonetheless!

Told in alternating POVs by sisters Alex & Ruth. Completely unreliable narrators both telling their own version of the same story. Crazy! I couldn't decide which sister I liked more or who was authentic. I found myself rooting for each sister at different times throughout the book ... I can tell you one thing for certain, the synopsis is 100% correct, this story is claustrophobic!!

Hurry Home is a well executed family drama! Great character development and a plot that will keep you guessing ...

Huge thank you to Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for my review copy! Hurry Home is out July 7th!!

This book was a wild and twisty time.

It's told in the perspective of Alex and Ruth, two estranged sisters who find each other after ten years, when Ruth arrives at Alex's doorstep. Alex has the perfect life, living with her boyfriend in a beautiful flat and working as a children's social worker. But Ruth has always been the troublemaker, the one who has nearly ruined Alex's life multiple times. So when Alex agrees to take Ruth in, it's with the condition that they will never speak of the past.

This book has so many twists and turns, and contradictory stories about the past--your perception of the characters changes wildly from beginning to end, which was fantastic. I saw at least one twist coming, but it still blew me away how it was used and revealed. An awesome, twisty, fast-paced thriller that I devoured in one day.

There is a story here, but it's in a format that I hate, with changing first person POV in every chapter. That means you get confused about who is who, and it's not an easy read.
The book is labeled as a thriller, but there are no thrills, just a lot of misery. The writing itself is OK, but I don't like the plot and story.

Nay's first book Our Little Secret left me speechless, but to be honest, I don't really remember much about it. I've read so many of these kinds of thrillers that they all start to blur together.

I am struggling with what to say about this. It was a quick and easy read, more of a drama than a thriller, though, in my opinion. Even with the twists and turns, they were kind of predictable and didn’t give much of a shock. I didn't feel very attached to the characters or moved by the trauma in their past. I didn't feel much of anything, to be honest.

The one interesting aspect was the dynamic between sisters Ruth and Alex, and how their remembered experiences from childhood were vastly different. Same events, different perspectives and different repercussions. The dynamic was fascinating, though the tension it created in the present wasn't enough to carry the whole book. We see the unlikeable sociopathic female character here, but she doesn't seem as deeply developed into what I think she was supposed to be. It felt like something was missing.

I finished the book, something I don’t really do anymore when books aren’t holding my interest, so there was enough of something to keep me going. I felt like I was just reading through the motions though and wasn't really invested at all in where I ended up and I don’t expect to be able to recall the gist of it in the future.

Hurry Home is a story of family, of flaws, of all the ways we remember the past, but sometimes our memories aren't as real or accurate as we tell ourselves they are. Roz Nay develops characters that are real, believable, relatable, and with quirks flaws just like most of us have. This book addresses a topic that we hear about often, the world of child protective services. Alex is a devoted CPS worker, tirelessly working to save the endangered child. Enter her pregnant sister Ruth, the black sheep of the family. If you love a book with tension that will have you love and hate characters at the same time, you need to pick up this book. I appreciated the twists that kept me wondering whether I really knew any of the characters as well as I thought.

This book fits much better in the Domestic Drama genre. This was a quick read time wise, but the story was quiet slow and never packed the punch that it could have. While it was suppose to be twisty, it was quite easy to figure out, even the final twist that was suppose to wow, unfortunately it did not. Not bad, not great, just mediocre.

Too fast paced, I wish it had been a bit slower. I found the characters to not be very likeable. The author did a great job writing the story. This was just a no for me.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

I couldn't find what I was looking in a thriller book., I think it's because of the writing. Everything seems unnatural to me, Alex was very evil ok but I couldn't like her, Ruth or anyone. It had a weird fiction and I'm sorry this was not a good one for me.

This was such a fast paced read, full of secrets from the past, sisterhood and coming back together. I really enjoyed the dual prespectives told from each sister's point of view and watching their stories come together to n piece together what excately happened in the past to set them on their Separate ways for 15 years. I was definitely surprised by the ending and the great shift because of the secrets and lies that had been kept in the past.

Alex a social worker has always had a plan. She has also made it her mission to save children from dangerous situations. In a relationship with her long time boyfriend even though she hasn't let him in on what happened in her past. That is until her sister Ruth, shows up 15 years after she up and left the family. Ruth is pregnant and needs her sister's help. Alex is not so keen to let her sister back into her life, because of the past she doesn't want her boyfriend to know. Ruth however is able to convince them to let them stay and starts to get the boyfriend on her side. Things start to get a little crazy and tense when Ruth's ex starts to contact them wanting his drugs and money that Ruth stole. Not to worry though Alex always has a plan, will it work out this time or will it become another big mess like the unfortunate day they were playing Hurry Home?

4.5 stars, actually.

What do you get when you pit two psychologically damaged sisters against one another? In this case, a very engrossing story that hooked me at the starting gate. That said, don't expect what I'd call a thriller nor, for that matter, many really likable characters; it's more of a manipulative struggle between the two sisters to determine who got the shorter end of life's stick and who can tell the most believable lies.

Alexandra Van Ness, a children's services worker, loves her job and her life with hunky and occasional model Chase. She's far less fond of her older estranged sister Ruth, with whom she shared a rocky, secret-filled childhood. So when Ruth shows up on her doorstep begging for help, Alex is torn. She's sure Ruth will revert to her unpleasant ways - possibly ruining the life she's built with Chase - but they are, after all, sisters. And even dysfunctional sisters have an obligation to take care of each other. Don't they?

Chapters switch from the perspectives of Alex and Ruth, with each telling her side of the story as she sees it, leaving readers to wonder who's the attacker and who's the villain. It's not till near the end that glimpses of reality creep in, and I must say that when the "truth" was revealed, I still wasn't convinced that either sister could pass for an innocent bystander. I'm not sure that was the intent, but I didn't like either sister well enough to give her a pass on bad behavior.

Still, I enjoyed this journey very much - and I recommend it as an anytime read, but especially on a beach read (if the virus pandemic we're currently experiencing eases up enough for beaches to be open) or by the fireplace when snow is falling outside. It's well-written, entertaining and fast-paced - what more could readers want? Many thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review a pre-release copy.

A brilliant read! Full of twists and turns! Didn’t quite know who to believe! Really well written and totally absorbing! Tragedy, and how a young mind can be harmed forever by childhood experiences!

Thank you to NetGalley, Roz Nay and Crooked Lane Books for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve heard so much about Nay’s first novel that I couldn’t pass up the chance to read the second one! I was not disappointed in this one at all, and now I can’t wait to get my hands on more by Nay! I really enjoyed all the build up and never knowing which sister was telling the truth. There were quite a few well thought out twists to this one and I enjoyed both characters, even though one was very twisted! This novel is just the perfect length and I read it in one sitting because I had to know which sister was the liar. I would definitely recommend!

Out July 7th!

DNF @pg 55

I don't like the author's writing style, it feels si detached. I'm given nothing to form emotional bonds with the characters and Ruth and Chase are simply annoying me. Maybe over time Alex may interest me but I'm not invested in her or tue story right now.

It's like the writer tries and tries to be mysterious but isn't building up the story. I just can't read it anymore.

Thank you to the author, Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I would call this story about two very different sisters a family drama rather than a thriller. While the premise was intriguing, the execution did not live up to its potential. It was a lot of (bad) dialogue, stereotypical and one-dimensional characters and predictable twists.

Intriguing from the start, Hurry Home is much more suspense than thriller. It's a family drama about two sisters and the secrets that forever bind them together. The premise is interesting, and the characters are quite intriguing. The relationship between sisters Alex and Ruth is fascinating to watch unfold. Hurry Home is a story read for character development, not for fast-paced action sequences or gripping narrative. The story is captivating, but not overly exciting. Even so, I enjoyed this one, and I recommend it to anyone who likes mystery or suspense novels.

Lies and betrayal.

Her sister tells her to keep the past a secret but will her sister?

This book had so many twists and turns and i loved it.

And also this book had a character who i could not stand and honestly i have not read alot of books where a person annoyed me so much like this person however it was good that this book had that because honestly i loved reading a book when i dont like every person that shows its a good book to have so many opinions on the people in the book.

The ending was so good.. Hands down this author writes amazing thrillers and i look forward to reading more from this author :) thank you netgalley for this arc!

This is a book involving family dynamics. It is interesting how the author portrays each of the characters and leads you to make assumptions about each sister. They both tell their sides of their past and the versions are completely different. It is easy to begin to take the side of the believable sister but there are many twists and turns in this story.
