Need to re start this series since it's been awhile but I did enjoy it and I'll be checking out more by this author

Bitter Falls is the 4th book in the “Stillhouse Lake” series, and I’m happy to report that it did not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the world of Gwen, Lanny, Connor and Sam. I appreciated the efforts by the author to keep the series fresh for readers –Gwen now working as a PI, a new setting, multiple interwoven story strands, and featuring Connor at the heart of the story. I had taken a lengthy break after book 3, which made dipping back in again even more satisfying! And now I have book 5 & 6 to enjoy without waiting! Rachel Caine is a seasoned, talented writer, and if you’re interested in a series with a strong female heroine, fast-paced action, and engaging storylines, then give the series a try… I recommend starting at Book 1, there’s a lot of character development and backstory to understand that will enhance your reading enjoyment.

Thank you to Net Galley and the author for a complimentary ebook in return for unbiased review.

Oh, I've finally read more in this series! I was putting them out, because Heartbreak Bay is the last book published that was fully written by Rachel Caine. Since I started this series, a 6th book was released, but they brought on another author to finish it. And I wanted to read all of her other books before I got to these ones. But I just had to pick these ones up!

Identity, yeah,it was another fantastic twisted story! It makes you believe one thing, and then it turns out it was going in a much different direction, and I absolutely loved reading it! And it was great to see a quick peak at their lives before the next adventure!

Bitter Falls, it's the first full length book where she gets a case for her job, so that was interesting. Of course there's the case and all of the issues that it's bringing up, and in the family's lives. Once the action started, boy it didn't slow down!

Heartbreak Bay had another fantastic case, with the mystery of what the heck was going on. I loved how it dealt with everything, and how it wrapped up this story arc. I know Rachel Caine was intending to do another one, earth or road of something, but this was the end of the water arc, and it was a fantastic read!

I once more loved reading these books, and I'm getting close to reading all of Rachel Caine's published works!

A great, thrilling read, which will keep you entertained throughout. A good one sitting read, get the nibbles ready, close the door, and read!

How much stress and heartbreak and danger can one family take? If your last name is Proctor, turns out you can take a LOT. It comes with the territory when your husband/father was a notorious convicted serial killer and there's a segment of the population that's determined to neither forgive nor forget that, and wants to see you severely punished for that connection. This is the fourth book in the series, and continues in the same vein as the first three. Gwen Proctor is now working as a private investigator, trying to keep life as normal as possible for herself, her teen daughter and son, and her partner Sam. But friends and allies have become few and far between for them all in Stillhouse Lake, where Gwen had hoped they'd found a refuge where they could live a quiet, under-the-radar life. But events in the first three books in this series have made it increasingly unlikely, and there are elements who are actively "encouraging" them to leave. So the timing is good for Gwen to take a case that will take them out of town for a bit, even though it's a cold case involving a college student who disappeared without a trace three years prior. The result is another compelling read full of action, suspense, and the resilience of four people whose commitment to each other continues to strengthen.
I will say that this book could probably stand alone, but I highly recommend reading this series in order so that the reader can get the full effect of the past experiences of each of the characters and how they influence them in this time frame. There are bits that feel repetitive if you read them fairly close together (as I did), but I'm still happy I had the full background going into each of the books.

Just got around to this one and heard the news about the author. This series started off strong for me but sort of fell apart around the middle/end. I really enjoyed this story overall and would recommend

Rachel Caine could do it all! Write vampire YA, middle school and adult.

Please please, this story is not a stand alone! Be sure to read the previous three novels. There is a lot of back story and character history you'll need to know.

Gwen Proctor is one strong character. And while it seems like she has a release on life because of events from the previous book, drama and crazy still finds her!

This series is wild, with thrills, mystery. Go and check it out.

We will miss you Rachel!

Rachel Caine does it again with Bitter Falls! I love following Gwen and her story and seeing how she develops with each book in the series. I am eagerly and maybe not so patiently awaiting the next book in the series!

Firstly, I'd like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the eARC for an honest review! I was also gifted a physical copy of this book for Christmas.

This is the 4th book in the Stillhouse Lake series and OMG was it amazing. I think it's probably my favourite so far which is hard to say because they have all been so brilliant. Just picture this: a religious cult, young men going missing, and a fight to save so many lives. I can't even put into words how epic that ending was. We got to see a lot more of Connor's POV in this book and I really loved his development throughout the book. This book really does capture the whole 'no rest for the wicked' because there is so much that happens. Gwen Proctor and her family really go through it. The peaks in the book are forever spiking.

I was completely hooked by the prologue and spent yesterday reading almost the whole book. I cannot recommend this series enough and also this author! This is my second series by Rachel Caine and she is just amazing.

WOW! With any Rachel Caine books in this series...you are in for a wild ride! I love all her novels in this series! This one was not my favorite, but it was very nice to re-visit that world again. Her books in this series are always so action packed and the pace is quick. These books are fast-paced, but also great to read.

Bitter Falls is the fourth book about Gwen Proctor and her family, who were forced to change their identities after her husband was exposed as a serial killer. You might be thinking, four books?! How much trauma can one woman have? The answer is a hell of a lot!

After book three I was feeling a bit tired of Gwen stumbling from one disaster to another, but this one was a big success for me! Working as a PI, Gwen is hired to work a missing person cold case and gets mixed up with a nasty cult. (Anything about cults I'm sold for some reason). It was so creepy and seemed authentic.

There was another storyline near the beginning of the book that didn't really go anywhere, a young girl's murder. I'm wondering/hoping if that will come up in book five?

I readily recommend this series to fans of thrillers. They're great reads that keep you turning pages!

4,5 stars! Probably my favorite so far. I loved how we get to see more about the kids, about how they’re growing up and showing their strength.
And Sam! I’m liking him more and more :)

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

I hadn't read the other titles in this series, but I don't think it mattered. This was a page-turner, and I enjoyed it over a couple of sessions with the action twisting and evolving nicely. I loved some of the humour with select characters! Recommended if you enjoy solid suspense.

As always, I love visiting Gwen and her family. This fourth installment in the Stillhouse Lake series explores Gwen in a new job role as a private investigator. Ultimately, she stumbles upon a case that completely turns her world upside down. Gwen is a complete bad ass as usual. Really enjoyed continuing on with the series!

This series is just so good, it gets better with each book. Something that is rare in the fact that in most series as they get to that half way point, they start to stumble and loose their direction and appeal a bit. But not the Stillhouse lake series.
Even if you have not read the books before I feel like you could pick this one up and be just fine. It is a mystery that deep dives into cult life and missing people.
With a twist at the end that even I didnt see coming, and when I am fooled it always makes me love a book. I usually can spot the twists before it hits me but this author has a way of pulling a fast one.
