Did I stop everything and read 𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 in one day after getting my paws on it? You bet I did! And I have zero regrets about that because WHAT.A.RIDE!⁣⁣

Book 4 is just as fast paced and dark as the other books in the Stillhouse Lake series. I LOVE this series and am always anxiously waiting for the next book to come out. While this would work as a stand alone, I HIGHLY recommend you start with book one in the series. Serial killers, white knuckled adventure, and twisty mysteries...what’s not to love? Add a strong female lead with an endearing family and you’ve got this fantastic series! As always, my time with Gwen and her crew was too short. I look forward to more escapades with this kick butt family! 4.5⭐️.⁣⁣

I am addicted to this ingeniously plotted, well written, character driven stories. The smallest details and comments weave together to create stories that grab you by the throat and drag you into the darkness. I never know what's coming next and i find myself counting the days until the next book is released.

Although lacking the obsessive compulsive readability of the first two books in this series, Bitter Falls is still an excellent installment in the Stillhouse Lake series. I love a good cult thriller, and this one did not disappoint. If this series continues, I would like to see a little more character growth, it often feels like they are just running in place. Rachel Caine sure can write the heck out of a good thriller! Would be happy to see more in this series :)

I really wondered where Caine was going to take this after the end of Wolfhunter and this was better than I imagined. My library patrons really love Gwen and her family. They are so gritty and real. We all love this series and can't wait to see where we will go next.

Gwen Proctor is trying to put her past behind her, and a new assignment gives her something to focus on. She’s looking into the very cold case of a missing man from Tennessee for three years. Gwen understands all too well what it’s like to have no answers about a missing child, so she puts her all into finding answers for the young man’s mother. But while Gwen looks for answers for Ruth Landry, danger lies in wait for her family at home. Fighting for Ruth and for her own family, Gwen risks everything for truth and justice

Ever find yourself too invested in characters in a book? The first two books in this series were such were great psychological thrillers and you felt deeply for Gwen and her 2 kids for everything they had been through. I struggled with the third book – not because it was a badly written book – but because I wanted something else for Gwen and her kids and I couldn't turn off my emotions on how I felt the author was doing them wrong. I went into this book a little more chill and found myself back to enjoying it like the first two. Which is ironic because Bitter Falls main plot its tied to some pretty big things from Wolfhunter River.

Gwen is now a PI working for Kingston Investigations and is given a cold case of a missing college student. Boy does her investigation open up the biggest can of worms you've ever seen and thrust her whole family right back in the middle of harm's way (not that they ever really are out of the spotlight).

Things go from suspenseful to extremely suspenseful in no time. This is something the author excels at writing. I was also happy with how things ended for Gwen, Sam and her kids. Don't know if there will be more books in the series or not but I am happy again with how things were at the end of this book – cause yeah you know it's all about making me happy – KIDDING :)

On a side note. I hope to god that the school shooting drills that was portrait in this book was more fiction than truth. I know they do happen in schools but the example the author wrote in this book was horrific and gut-wrenching. That our kids are having to be traumatized in training for something that may happen is heartbreaking.

Bitter Falls is the 4th book in the Stillhouse Lake series, and picks up right where the last book ended - the main character, Gwen, now working as a private eye. All the familiar faces are back, including a few surprises, as Gwen investigates a years-old missing persons case that leads to a murderous cult. The action is intense, as you can feel Gwen’s despair throughout the story. Lots of action, simple plot to follow, and it flies by. Another great read in the series, and it’s interesting to see how the characters continue to develop since the first book. If you are new to the series, definitely read the first book, Stillhouse Lake - you won’t be disappointed.

I must first say that I've never read a Rachel Caine book before so I had no idea what to expect. After realizing this is the 4th book in a series, I was worried I would have to read the first three before this one. I was wrong! This could be a stand alone book as it's not necessary to read the others, which I love. Of course if I had read the others, there would be more character development and more understanding of the main protagonist, Gwen, aka female badass who keeps coming back for more.

I don't want to give away much of this book because I feel like almost anything I say would be considered a spoiler but seriously, just read the excerpt! It's so good and brilliantly written. A must read for anyone looking for a thrilling adventure with a strong female character.

Another fast paced story in the series. I enjoy the characters and mysteries and this one was no different. I think they need to be read in order to really be engaged in them as a good part is the development of the characters.

Having never read a novel by Rachel Cain before I did not know what to expect from “Bitter Falls”. Well, after devouring Rachel’s latest thriller in one sitting it is safe to say that I am a fan and have already downloaded further titles in her back catalogue. Whilst this can be read as a stand-alone thriller, there are earlier titles in this series. I urge you to read them. Whilst there is little I can say without getting into spoiler territory (read the blurb... it is that good!), I can say that “Bitter Falls” is an atmospheric, tautly plotted, twisty mystery with a strong female protagonist. Moreover, whilst many novels in this genre seem to lack either the ‘thriller’ or ‘mystery’ element of this genre, this book has both in spades. After reading quite a number of British thrillers lately, it was good to get back to the good ole USA. This is a wonderful example of a great American thriller that both excites and surprises. If you like the wonderful novels of Karin Slaughter be sure to put Rachel Cain’s expertly plotted thrillers on your wish list. You won’t regret it.
