This book was okay....plot was good but there were a lot of sections where the main character was speculating as to who did it and it took so long for the author to get to the end.

Oh man oh man! Do not pick up this book if you are planning on doing anything before you finish it. I started this one on a whim and while I kind of guessed the whole who and why business it was still good! Five women and two are kind of nemesis get together and have a heavy drinking night and the next morning no one remembers the previous night. And everyone suspects the other as they try to find out who killed Sadie. As time goes on everyone is a suspect and it seems more and more people have a reason to kill sadie.
I loved the dynamics of the girls and the writing! Definitely recommend!!

The Girls Weekend is an unputdownable locked room mystery with plenty of twists.

After almost twenty years, five friends reunite when one of them, Sadie, invites the rest to her baby shower at her beautiful estate in the San Juan Islands. June Moody is excited to get away after her recent breakup even though it means spending time with Sadie and her husband, June's former college crush. Old grudges resurface, but when the next morning comes, Sadie is missing. There is blood throughout. And no one has any memory of the night before. It seems everyone was drugged. There are plenty of secrets and everyone is a suspect. Even June has reason to suspect herself since she finally had her moment with her former crush.

Highly recommended to readers who enjoyed Ruth Ware's In A Dark, Dark Wood or if you enjoy locked room mysteries. Be sure to check out The Girls Weekend today.

After currently reading other similar type plot books this one felt a definite choice! Typical group going away, a murder and working out who did it. I did guess who about 2 thirds the way through. It was an enjoyable read but I feel I may have enjoyed it more had it not followed a couple more of the same type of genre. But well written and a good plot line

The familiar plot of the getaway weekend for a group of old friends - with a twist! This was a solid mystery with a group of interesting women (including a killer) and its all our job to figure it out. My first reading of this author and she allows for character development while telling their stories. You know it’s only a weekend timeline so the reader can settle in for the ride. There are difficult themes - self-harming stalking- done by the women themselves that were uncomfortable and while, interesting, several of the five women were really flawed and relentless.

⭐⭐⭐💫
The Girls Weekend by Jody Gehrman is an interesting look into friendships. A group of five friends meet up for a girls weekend at Sadie's secluded mansion. June does not want to go but her best friend Em convinces her to come along so that the entire group will be together. Each of the women has their own issues with Sadie. She is not very well liked in this group but they have been friends since college. After a wild night of drinking the women wake up and realize they don't remember most of the night before. They also realize Sadie is missing. Did she leave on her own? Why can't they remember the night before?

This book is told from June's point of view. She is the jealous friend who thinks of Sadie as the woman who has it all, including June's ex-boyfriend. It has jealousy, lust, and friendship issues. The characters were frustrating at points when they made very stupid choices. The story kept my interest because anyone could have wanted to get rid of Sadie or Saide could have left on her own. All of her friends and family members seem to dislike her. The story moves at a good pace but the end of it was wrapped up too quickly.

Getting together with your friends from college sound like fun, right? Except when the host is your old nemesis who married the man you once dated and *gasp* turned down. June Moody is an English professor who had big dreams of becoming a successful author. Her nemesis Sadie, married June's ex and went on to become a successful author whose children's books have been made into popular movies. Begrudgingly she agrees to attend the weekend.

Sadie has it all - a handsome husband, a successful writing career, a beautiful daughter who is about to go to college and a beautiful home. She has invited her college friends to her home for a girl’s weekend.

The weekend gets off to an awkward start and after a night of drinking the women wake up with mega hangovers and very little memory of what occurred the night before. Glimpses of memories here and there but nothing solid. When they slowly begin to regroup, they find Sadie is missing, the house is ransacked and there are bloodstains.

Soon the police are called in and as the investigation begins, so does the suspicions, bickering and feelings of dread....

Where is Sadie? What happened to her?

This was a fast read that didn't disappoint. The synopsis is intriguing and as soon as the bickering started, things really got interesting. Fairly early on, I had a suspect in mind and was right but still enjoyed how this book played out. This is pure entertainment. This book doesn't require much thinking, just curling up in one's favorite reading chair. I like to think of this as a guilty pleasure book. Everyone appears to have a motive; everyone has gaps in her memory but is one of them lying? hmm....

Fun, entertaining, captivating and a fast read!

Quite the thriller! June goes on a girls weekend to celebrate her friend Amy's pregnancy. Little did she know that she would be swept up in a whole bunch of drama and a crime! The hidden secrets of a group of friends are exposed and leaves everyone questioning each other when one of the friends (Sadie) comes up missing. A great "whodunnit" novel that takes a bunch of twist and turns. Great read!

The Girls Weekend is a "can't put it down, stay up way to late reading" kind of book. I was hooked from the very first sentence. The pacing is perfect. Each new detail drew me in and kept me reading to see what comes next. There are plenty of twists throughout. An excellent, quick read.

This was a quick, fun read. June reunites 20 years later with 4 friends from college. Some of the friends have complicated relationships. Sadie, who is a wealthy popular author, hosts the reunion. She is also married to June's ex boyfriend. After a night of drinking, the women wake up with no memories from the night before and discover Sadie missing along with bloodstains on the wall. Lots of red herrings are along the way but I enjoyed the story and the ending.
"They're the people who share my memories and helped shape the person I became. There's a depth and a history there that can't be created from scratch."

Started reading and couldn’t put it down. I love a good mystery. I had a hard time guessing the killer.

Received as an ARC from NetGalley.
I read so many psychological thrillers that my expectations run pretty high. The Girls Weekend did not disappoint. The story was relate-able: girlfriends from college regroup to have a weekend before one of them gives birth. I liked there was a back story as to why they have drifted apart. It was a good lead up to the murder. The story line kept me guessing and the ending was a surprise. Recommended.

Sometimes you need to treat yourself and this is the kind of popcorn/candy floss read that will do just that!

While you’re shaking your head and muttering under your breath at some of the decisions made by our characters, you’ll still be all in – dying to know who did what and why. Sure, it’s fully of trashy behavior and over-the-top characters, but that’s why we’re here!

This one is fun. I read this so fast that I actually went back and checked the pages to see if I had been mistaken about the length. Nope, it’s about 300 pages that feel like half that much.

Seriously entertaining, nutrition-free read!

This one just wasn't for me. The mystery itself is good and while I guessed who, I didn't expect the whys and how. The characters are unlikable. The dialogue is childish. So many things were unrealistic. The behavior of these grown women was so far out there that I found myself rolling my eyes repeatedly. There didn't seem to be any depth to the relationships. The final two chapters were the best of the book and almost felt like they were written by a different person.

Noooo it was so predictable!! I figured out the mystery so early on, and then I feel like the rest just dragged. It gripped me in the first 50 pages but the pacing fell flat after that. The narrator wasn’t my favorite, and i never really connected with any of the other characters. Not my favorite.

Description
For fans of Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley, a riveting locked-room mystery about five college friends eager to reunite after years apart--only to be ripped apart again when their host's disappearance unearths dark secrets and old grudges. Their reunion just became a crime scene . . .

June Moody, a thirty-something English professor, just wants to get away from her recent breakup and reunite with girlfriends over summer break. Her old friend and longtime nemesis, Sadie MacTavish, a mega-successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower at her sprawling estate in the San Juan Islands. June is less than thrilled to spend time with Sadie--and her husband, June's former crush--but agrees to go. The party gets off to a shaky start when old grudges resurface, but when they wake the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is in shambles, and bloodstains mar the staircase. None of them has any memory of the night before; they wonder if they were drugged. Everyone's a suspect. Since June had a secret rendezvous with Sadie's husband, she has plenty of reason to suspect herself. Apparently, so do the cops. A Celtic knot of suspense and surprise, this brooding, atmospheric novel will keep you guessing as each twist reveals a new possibility. It will remind you of friendships hidden in the depths of your own past, and make you wonder how well you really know the people you've loved the longest.

My Review
The idyllic college reunion turns into something sinister when one of the friends, Sadie goes missing. A riveting story that will keep you guessing until the very end.

A must read!

This book was provided to me in exchange for my honest opinion and boy was this a great book. I could not put it down until the very end. The characters are well-written and believable and the novel itself is suspenseful.

Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a well written mystery novel.

Their reunion just became a crime scene.
June Moody, thirty-something English professor, wants to get away from her recent breakup and reunite with her 5 girlfriends over summer break. Her , Sadie MacTavish, mega-successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower at her beautiful estate in the San Juan Islands. June is less than thrilled but agrees to go.

The party gets off to a shaky start when old grudges resurface, when they wake the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is in shambles, and bloodstains on the staircase and walls. None of them have any memory of the night before; tthey suspect they were drugged. The cops think everyone is a suspect.

The 5 women;
1. June, community college English professor, indie author (her book is not shelved anymore), dumped via text by her boyfriend who runs with his younger girlfriend to Amsterdam. Accepts an invitation from Sadie, her old friend and longtime nemesis, the woman who married to the love of her life after she rejected his marriage proposal. Same dude hitting on her throughout their holiday gathering
2.Sadie, seems like have-it-all: June’s ex Ethan, charming husband, a beautiful daughter Dakota. A mansion, a rising career at the literature industry.
3. June’s bestie Em is also having her dream career and a great relationship, cool, casual, loyal but she keeps a big secret from her past only Sadie knows.
4.Amy, bi-polar, she is related to Sadie who controls her life. She is who the friends are gathered to celebrate the baby shower for, but keeps baby’s father as secret.
5. Kimiko, works in a dispenser, mostly stoned with weed or drunk because of too many gin tonics, one of the most unpredictable characters.

June is prime suspect because she secretly met with Sadie’s husband. She hates Sadie.
Em hates Saddie because she will spill the beans about her big secret.
Amy hates Sadie because she will take her baby and raise the baby as hers.
Kimiko hates Sadie because of common financial issues.
Ethan hates Sadie because they have problematic marriage and Dakota hates her mother because she is pushing her go to Yale but she wants to be actress and get her education at UCLA.

My only dislike about this book is some of the characters are super annoying, but I'm guessing that's the point lol

WOW! What a fantastic book. Five college girlfriends reunite for an uneasy girl's weekend rife with unspoken tension and long held grudges. The perfect host, Sadie, is discovered missing after a night no one can remember but blood spattered walls tell of a sordid evening.

Where is Sadie? What happened the night before?

I really enjoyed how the author has captured and navigated that uneasiness of reuniting with friends from a different time period in ones life. No one is the same but people aren't entirely different. It would be easy to typecast each friend but the author does a great job showing how their individual complexities.

Usually thrillers end with the reveal of "who done it" but this one took it a step further and showed the growth of each character. I absolutely loved it. Completely satisfying!

Locked room style mystery - set on a remote island - five former friends meet up for a reunion and baby shower. But the waters around them are rippling and the storm is about to hit. These girls are set for an explosive time. Will they all get off alive?

When women get together something happens. in a novel. When women who have lost touch get together jealousies come to the surface and all hell breaks loose. Jealousy as the woman having the party has the most amazing house on the San Juan islands off the Washington state coast. Sounds a lovely place to go to.Nope not in this book!

There's quite the bunch of characters. None of them very nice and redeemable to be fair. I wanted at least one person to be nice so I could care more about what happened. I realise they were going to drink and go a bit daft as you do at parties but jeepers these girls need help! Drugs too. I was amazed any of them lasted the first few chapters.

I did enjoy the mystery and the unfolding of it all;. The underlying issues and jealousies were gripping and although I did guess the ending, it was a enjoyable time getting there.

I've never really done a girls weekend and probably won't now ;)

I’d like to thank Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I enjoyed this story, it’s a quick, fast paced read, however, for me, I felt it was quite far fetched and personally to much emphasis on alcohol and moreso narcotics. The characters are 40 years old, but are portrayed in maturity to be more like in their twenties. Several characters are mentally unwell or deranged, and I just did not at all appreciate the emphasis on all the characters being drugged - one pregnant yet no repercussions?! And this is the biggest part of the story, I found it annoying and dragged out. The whole ‘whodunnit’ was well written, I didn’t guess until quite well through, basically everyone is a suspect, but before that point, it sort of came from no where. It’s a very American college culture type read. The cops are not at all believable, and I feel there could have been a better background built on all the characters. It’s all very on the surface. Just a 3 star read for me this time as I felt so many parts were frustrating.
