This collection of essays is most refreshing because of Gornick's enthusiasm as she revisits the books she has read before and discovers new things. Each one is not necessarily an important work of criticism on its own, but as a whole this is a wonderful collection and well worth engaging with.

A very meta book of essays about books that the author loves and re-reads. Some of these essays were re-published from other sources. And, indeed, I believe that I have read at least two before.
