What can be said about Lorrie Moore that hasn't been said already? This collection is a treasure trove of all her best works and then some. A master of the short story form, Moore has inspired many writers and it's easy to see why. Her facility with language and exposition aside, she is an astute observer of human nature and a compassionate writer of all our flaws and glories. There's a kind of quiet optimism in the bleakest of Moore's stories that is reminiscent of the works of Grace Paley and Alice Munro. Where Moore stands apart from the latter two writers is, perhaps, in how her optimism seems to be more accidental or unintentional.

This is a book to dip into often and frequently. Every story is a masterclass in the short story form.
