What an excellent thriller
I loved the authors writing style as it was so compelling.
This book is a fast paced ride.

It was definitely the cover that first attracted me to this book and then the blurb, as I do love anything set on a holiday. Yet it then sat on my kindle for over a year before I had a chance to read it and I went in blind.

I really had no idea what to expect other than for it to be quite dark at some point - so the relatively sedate opening, took me a bit by surprise, but I really enjoyed getting to know Cora and Jonathan, being happy with their new proposal and impressed with Jonathan's business dealings.

But then there are a few weird occurrences but even then I had absolutely no idea what turns this book was going to take. What resulted was the second half of the book is full of action, fast paced, and at no point was I sure exactly what I could believe or not.

Full of drama this is fabulous, and had me on the edge of my seat and completely gripped and wrapped up in the story. For this turns out to be anything but at a holiday of a lifetime, but yet it will for Cora be remembered forever but not for the reasons you may first be thinking.

This is the first book I've read from the author and if this is an indication of their skills, then I'd certainly be happy to read more in the future.

Thank you to Aria and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

It was a good premise but was too far-fetched for me. Would make a great holiday read though by the pool.

The Beach House is a far fetched tale of a couple on an expensive holiday to an exotic island who find themselves in danger. An escapist read but not for me.

I loved P.R. Black's first novel 'The Family' and knew I'd love this one too. It was super tense and thrilling, although thankfully not as scary as his first one! Looking out for his next book already.

If you are yearning for a winter break in the sunshine this January, PR Black’s nail-biting page-turner The Beach House might just make you change your mind and settle for the cold and dismal weather. A fantastic read that will get the heart pumping, The Beach House is one hell of a rollercoaster ride.

Cora thinks that she is living the dream. She’s on vacation on a private beach in paradise where the sun is shining and the sea is glistening. Still on cloud nine from a romantic proposal and with an eight figure cheque in her pocket following the sale of her new fiancé’s business, Cora feels as if she’s just stepped into a Hollywood movie. However, Cora is about to learn that all that glitters is not gold and that there is no such thing as privacy and secrecy when she finds herself making the best of a bad situation and inviting along their friendly neighbours who are just a tad too friendly for Cora’s liking.

Cora initially thinks that she is letting her imagination run away with her. Her unexpected holiday companions are pleasant and kind-hearted and do not seem to have a bad bone in their bodies, but Cora cannot shake off this feeling that there is a sinister undercurrent going on which she simply cannot put her finger on. Is Cora right to trust her instincts? Or is she just being paranoid and should not let anyone or anything spoil her holiday? Cora knows that she should give her neighbours the benefit of the doubt – until things take a very dangerous turn…

Cora’s perfect holiday has become deadly and riddled with jeopardy and terror. Will she manage to save herself? Or will her island paradise end up being her permanent prison?
P.R. Black is the master of terrifying thrillers and he is on top form with The Beach House. A book that will send your heart rate through the roof and which will have you chewing your nail to the shoulder, make sure you do not read this book alone in the house because you will not sleep for days.

A petrifying page-turner you simply will not be able to put down, The Beach House is another captivating chiller full of danger, intrigue and suspense.

Cora and her boyfriend are off on a vacation of their dreams. They soon discover their private island is not so private. There is another couple on the island, and while things start out friendly, they soon take a turn for the worse.

This story was crazy! At one point, even the good guys looked like they were. bad. And while I'm very willing to suspend plausibility, there were parts of this story that had me rolling my eyes. That being said, it was still a quick paced thriller. Believe me, there was never a dull moment!

My thanks to Aria and Netgalley for providing this ARC.

This book was just OK for me- neat premise and a lot of promise, but fell a little short. It centers on Cora, who is on a romantic beach vacation with her new fiance, Jonathan. They believe they are on a private island but soon find out that another couple, Hazel and Dylan, are staying there as well. Hazel and Dylan are a little too familiar in both their looks and actions, which spins the story into the mystery that evolves as the book continues.

I thought the premise of the story was interesting, and the first half of the book was written in an anticipatory nature which kept me on the edge of my seat. When the real action started happening, though, I became less interested because it seemed really drawn out. One example of this is the multitude of long and detailed fight scenes, which didn't interest me at all. I liked the psychological pieces of this part of the book but felt that those were diluted by the lengthy action scenes that just didn't do anything for me.

I had 2 other issues with the book. One was that I really didn't get to know the characters of Cora and Jonathan- I didn't feel like I understood why they did the things they did or even how they really felt about each other (or others in the book). The second issue (without giving away spoilers) was when the villainy was uncovered, it seemed extremely unrealistic and I couldn't figure out how the plans could have been made to pull this off.

All and all, there is definitely excitement in this book and if you are a fan of action thrillers, you will probably really love it.. If you like the psychological over the action, you will likely rate similarly to my rating. I am not sorry I read this book but it wasn't a favorite.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Beach House was so suspenseful! I did not see the second half of this book coming at all. I couldn't put it down -- what a page-turner!

Twists and turns! A page turner. A dream getaway that takes a sinister and surprising turn!
Thanks Netgalley and to the publisher for the advance ecopy.

Interesting premise but the story drags and the dialogue was quite cheesy and inorganic

This took too long to take off. I got fidgety. In the meantime, I grew irritable with the silly conversations between the characters. The writing is fine but the plot becomes absurd and over the top. Cora is almost superhuman and Jonathan is a dud who only makes things worse.

It wasn’t horrible (quick read and I wanted to finish it to see how it ended). Some people have really enjoyed it so if it seems like your cup of tea then please give it a try.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Aria for a copy in exchange for a review.

Exciting doesn't go far enough for this book. A Caribbean holiday with unwanted extras. A super sized tiger shark, Bertha, being one. It all made my heart pound, but it's okay Bertha makes it!

Loved it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I read an advance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion

‘If that’s your best come-on line, then that’s some weak sauce.’ ‘Trust me,’ Jonathan said – with that particular twinkle in his eye that usually meant she should do the opposite.

Cora hadn’t failed to notice he was absurdly ripped, with one of those fat-free gym-honed physiques that looked as if they shouldn’t exist outside of a comic book – abs she could have played a tune on, straining muscle fibre best suited to a racehorse and a closely shaven chest that might have belonged to Action Man.

My Review:

This compelling book started off with crisp humor and amusing levity that put a smirk on my face and had me gleefully nestling in my chair for a snug session of relaxed reading. However, the tone soon turned a bit tauter, and steadily more so, until the smirk disappeared and I fell into Mr. Black’s vortex of intriguing doppelgangers, dangerous con artists, and a stupidly rich idiot fiancé and I totally lost track of myself as well as time. Wow, this absorbing read was nonstop action and cunningly well-paced with more twists and turns than a snake’s trail.

When I finally stopped to catch my breath and seek a bit of sustenance, I noticed my shoulders were in my ears and I was white-knuckling my Kindle, which was generally my reading posture for the remainder of the tale. I resented any interruption to my perusal and may have been rather snappish when my sweet husband inquired about dinner. Oops. I seemed to have fallen under what I’m calling The P.R. Black Spell, as this wordsmith is obviously a master of the darker arts of word voodoo.

I think this book might be a love it or leave it book and it fell in the latter category for me. The idea was really good but the development of the story and characters was not executed smartly enough for me so a lot of promise but failed to deliver

So, Cora and Jonathan are on vacation on this gorgeous private island with a gorgeous house where they’re completely utterly alone except for the cleaning and maintenance people. It’s the perfect holiday one could ask for, as they’d planned every day of the or 2 week stay meticulously beforehand so that they don’t miss out any fun. And then Jonathan wins a big bid on his company as a huge sum of money gets transferred to their account. It becomes romantic as Jonathan gets on one knee and proposes, putting a huge diamond rock to Cora’s finger as she says yes! And that’s when they realise they’re not alone.

Dylan and Hazel introduce themselves as their neighbors as they intrude Cora and Jonathan’s moment of their lives. There is something so wrong about the couple. Especially because they eerily resemble the pair and could easily become their doppelgangers! Things escalate very quickly as a weird friendship forms between the two couples. They begin exploring the Island, going fishing, diving into the sea, swimming with the sharks, and playing poker at the casino!

All until shit hits hard on their hungover faces and nothing seems as it was on the gorgeous island anymore.

I read the book in a single sitting, non stop because of the pace at which it moves! It takes a few chapters to get a hold on the plot though. I might have dropped it down myself, as the first few chapters were a bit dull and uneventful but when the mystery begins, there’s just no time to breathe or think! It’s a scary roller-coaster ride with lots of blood and action.

If you’re looking for a beach read with a strong female lead, quick chapters, and unexpected twists then PR Black’s The Beach House should definitely be on your list. Highly recommended from me.

Many thanks to the publisher for my digital copy. All opinions are solely mine.
