I read this book quickly- so many twists and turns, it sometimes felt confusing. Characters were well written. Just when I thought I understood, even more twists!

Alice finds the man of her dreams. This, after having her heart broken before. Dominic is handsome, charming and polished. They meet in an elevator where he works and are married months later. He seems to be in a hurry...

JoJo, Alice's oldest and best friend, is a bit skeptical about the rushed marriage but goes along with her long-time friend.

Almost from the start, Alice sees another side of Dominic. A lying side. Alice is able to brush off many of the uncertainties she has about what Dominic has been up to. Eventually Alice begins to see Dominic for who he truly is...

A fast-paced, exciting read with a great twist!

RECOMMEND!!!

Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a fine read.

Thank you Bookouture and Net Galley for an early copy of The Man She Married. I really LOVED the first part of the book but then it got too ridiculous after 2/3 of the book and the end. I liked the characters and the plot but wished the end part was as fast paced as the rest of the book.

Alice marries Dominick after few month whirlwind romance. Then after a couple years of marriage he dies suddenly and she finds out he’s not who he portrayed and she has no idea who her husband really is.

I liked how the book was written from the perspectives of Alice and her husband. It was enlightening to see the two views and the time hops between then and now.

Alice drove me crazy how oblivious she was and how often she excused her husband’s behavior. For the first 1/4 off the book I just see red flags popping up all over the place. It leaves you wanting to yell at the book, “Open your eyes woman!”

This book definitely had intense deception, twists and surprises. Exactly things I look for in a thriller. It was written well and I was completely engaged. There was a part of the book that was a bit too graphic and not to my personal taste which is all I’ll say so I don’t give any spoilers away. Other than that disclaimer, I found the book to be fast paced and gripping. A good detective story of putting together all the clues.

Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Oh my gosh this story kept me up, to finish it! What a suspenseful book, this story kept me trying to figure it out until the very end of it. This is for someone looking for a frightfully good story line and something new to mix things up in their reading time.

It is a pure coincidence that Alice makes the acquaintance of Dominic Gill. After her former fiancé had cancelled their wedding only days before it was supposed to take place, she didn’t really expect to meet anybody else to fall for. Dominic seems to be totally crazy asking her to marry him only weeks after they got to know each other, but why wait any longer if you feel it’s the right thing to do? Yet, there are some things they should have discussed before making the big step, e.g. do they want to have a baby, and it would have made sense to meet his mother and brother, but Alice does not worry too much about these things. Then one evening the police knock at her door and inform her about her husband’s death. When she comes to identify him, Dom’s brother is there insisting that the dead body does not belong to Dominic Gill. So who was Alice married to?

“The Man She Married” is a fast-paced thriller that shows how easily even intelligent and self-confident people may fall prey to fraudsters. As a reader, you are well aware of what is going on and at times, I got really annoyed with Alice’s mindlessness and naiveté, yet, I cannot say for sure that blinded by love I would assess Dom’s behaviour differently. With the main character’s sudden death, I wondered what else there was to come, but unexpectedly, Alison James made the hunt for Dominic’s real past as interesting as his deception of Alice.

Even though I have some doubts if it really is that easy to get fake identities or to take over somebody else’s life and to manage to keep up the facade of two lives simultaneously, I found it a gripping and spell-binding read.

Alice couldn’t believe her luck when she ran into Dominic in an elevator. It’s hard to meet someone organically in today’s world of technological dating. They were married after a brief dating time and even a shorter engagement time. After two years of marriage, Alice started to find small lies in their relationship. However, she put it out of her mind until the day the police showed up to announce her husband had died. So the story started to unravelled.

The style of writing goes back and forth between then and now and Dominic and Alice’s point of view. It started with a mystery, then the story gradually revealed the motive. It’s a cross between ‘Catch Me if You Can’ and ‘American Psycho.’ Alice is too easily trusting. Although usually it is said that the wife is last to know. However, Alice had more than enough resources to find out exactly what Dominic was up to. There were too many red flags that she ignored. I find it a little hard to believe that it took Alice that long to figure things out. As for Dominic, he made too many mistakes in order for law enforcements not to discover him sooner. Even if it crosses multiples countries. If a person in Dominic’s pass can figured things out with just a tap of a keystroke so can INTERPOL. It was a pleasant story to read, but there were many events that made this story not very believable.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Very good book! At the beginning I really disliked the main character, but as the story grew, I realized she is just like a lot of women. This is an easy read, I didn't put it down until I was done.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Also, to the author, for letting me read an early release.

A very enjoyable read with some good characters. A few twists. I had a theory of my own but I was wrong. 4*.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have read a few other Alison James's books before and have always enjoyed them, this one just as much. Just when you think you meet the man of your dreams, have a whirlwind courtship, get married, and then eventually get pregant, your husband passes away... but is the man you married really the man he said he was? With so many plot twists and turns, this book will keep you interested until the very end.

Wow absolutely loved this book . I was surprised when you found out what the husband was up to half way through the book and thought the book thereafter wouldn’t be very interesting but I was wrong . Loved all the story and the following build up with the husband was fantastic. Never saw the twist at the end coming . I highly recommend this book and will be reading more from this brilliant author

Alison James' thriller is enthralling. The first part details Alice's story. Her rushed marriage to a man she barely knows and he keeps,it that way. He has many secrets and plus one final disappearing act. The second part is the story of her husband who uses several aliases, but he's a dirtbag. The third part is what happens in the aftermath. The novel revealed a few twist I had not predicted so it kept my attention.

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave
When first we practise to deceive!"
--Sir Walter Scott

I've read, and enjoyed, two other books by this author. So when the publisher made an advance copy available for review, you bet your boots I jumped at the opportunity. And once again, I was not disappointed.

Chapters flash from "then" and "now" primarily for main character Alice, who runs her own successful catering business. Not one to trust relationships ever since a former fiance left her almost at the altar, she's a bit hesitant when she meets handsome and eligible Dominic. But not for long; early on, he convinces her of his love by proposing marriage - followed by asking to move into her beautiful home in London.

For the most part, happiness abounds for the first three years of their marriage - and Alice is overjoyed to learn she's pregnant. But just as she's planning the perfect Valentine's Day dinner to celebrate the news, she gets a knock at her door and it's not good news: Her husband has been in a terrible accident and is dead.

Alas, the news gets worse. Despite his plausible excuses, Alice has always been a little curious as to why Dominic has kept her from meeting his brother and mother. In fact, he may have had good reason. When said brother comes to identify the body, both he and Alice get the shocker of a lifetime: The body is the guy Alice married, but according to the brother, it's not the real Dominic.

Say what? At this point, "oops" is an understatement. Dominic's brother is certain it's not his brother, while Alice certainly knows it's the man she was married to for three years. So who is he, really? At this point, Alice realizes she's been living with some kind of liar - but he's also the father of her child. Now, the important thing is to determine who he really was.

In the end, the only option is to hire a private investigator - but a very busy and reluctant one at that. And it is at this point that I'll stop my review; if you want to learn more - and I hope you do - you'll just have to read it for yourself. Well done!

I read the synopsis for The Man She Married and could feel the blood in my veins. I knew I had to read this story it sounded so fresh, so thrilling and overall so interesting! Thank you Bookouture for approving my request, you’re auickly becoming one of my favourite publishers. :)

Right so here we go...

The first section of the story is fantastic. I loved it, there’s a great deal of suspense that amps up the overall feeling and left me on edge, the second part loses this feeling a little but it’s still strong and then we get onto the final section which I wasn’t a fan of. It was just tying up ends which didn’t work well for the book since the beginning quickly became the best part. If that strong start could be held I would rate this as one of my best books of 2019 but for now it just gets a solid four stars.

Incredible and average all at once but I’m holding on to the originality of the plot and giving this a high rating.

After many ups and downs in love, Alice has finally found what she was looking for. The perfect life with the perfect husband and a baby on the way. Life Is good. But then her world is turned from what she always dreamed of to a nightmare. The police come to tell her that her husband is dead. Dominic is dead. But is Dominic really Dominic? Not according to the real Dominic's family. So who was he? Why did he die? And what does this mean for Alice.

A really fast paced, decently written thriller. This was an easy read. I didn't get too attached to the characters and the writing was choppy in places, but I enjoyed it overall.
