I really enjoyed Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe. The book starts out with Oliver meeting Lydia for the very first time - he was 14 and she was 3 days old. From the first moment he holds her, Oliver feels a connection to Lydia. Oliver's family was extremely close to Lydia's. With Lydia's parents acting more like his parents than Oliver's own. Over time Oliver and Lydia remain close - closer than you would find most with a 14 year age gap. Lydia from a very early age declares that she is going to marry Oliver when she is old enough (something I think is pretty common for little girls). But that feeling doesn't go away with time - and when Lydia turns 18 she kisses Oliver. Oliver being 32 has a major freak-out related to it and Lydia is swept off to the continent for some "polish" and some much needed distance from Oliver.

Oliver, I think, was in love from Lydia - but the age difference was a real stumbling block. I think he felt like he was a creepy person to have feelings for Lydia - that they were wrong and inappropriate. And truthfully, I don't think he was wrong. Even though those kinds of age gaps weren't uncommon - Lydia was definitely too young at 18, When Lydia returns - Oliver has extremely mixed emotions about it. He is in love with Lydia but doesn't think he deserves her and that she still doesn't know her own mind. Lydia, on the other hand is frustrated by Oliver's paternalistic viewpoint and tries to get him to adjust his thinking - with only limited success.

Both Oliver and Lydia are very believable and understandable characters. I enjoyed the writing style and the connections between all the people in the books. What kept this from being a four star read for me were some of the historical items - I'm not a super stickler - but a few things just bothered me. Like Oliver not going to Eton until he was 14 (usually boys started around age 10 or even earlier). And the overall freedom both Lydia and Alexandra had - most girls of their age groups in their class were pretty much kept under lock and key - let alone writing journal articles or traveling on their own.

Overall - this was a very sweet book that I enjoyed!

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley - but these opinions are my own!

Pretty steamy, the romance is pretty basic, but I’m assuming you don’t read these for the plot. Solid three

3.5 ⭐️
This was an easy enough read in the way one loves a historical romance and the chase. The story moved right along and I loved the chemistry between these two. It was fun and a little frustrating but I really liked the romance.
I was a little confused about the very beginning but it all worked out.

This was a Netgalley read and all opinions are my own.

I have voluntarily read this ARC and this is my review, in my own words. Well, isn't this a delightfully different read. What characters, a surprise at every turn. Unfortunately, sometimes men are so blind and....well silly! Age doesn't matter and those who know it must convince those who don't that this is just the way it should be when a heart is engaged.

his was my first book by this author, but I will definitely read more of her books.

It is the second book in the Lost Lords series, but it can be read a standalone without any problems.

What I enjoyed about this book where the characters and the fact that this book was a bit different then your typical regency romance. I loved how sure Lydia was about her feelings and how she stood up for herself and her happiness and took the steps needed to ensure that. She was sassy, but not annoying

Oliver was a bit different hero. More insecure about himself and not happy with his life, without really knowing what is missing. He is not perfect and also carries scars from his past.

Loved how it was Lydia who took charge and rescued Lord Roxwaithe.

There is so much to love about ‘Rescuing Lord Roxwaithe’ and I am so pleased to have a new author to add to my list. From the very beginning Oliver, the Earl of Roxwaithe, has held a very special bond with Lady Lydia Torrence. However, Oliver has always felt that the fourteen-year age gap, and his great respect for her father, the Marquis of Demartine, has meant that he should only see her as a younger sister. Lydia has never felt that way and has always known that she would marry Oliver, until her eighteenth birthday when she kissed him, and he told her to leave. Two years later, they find themselves together again, with feelings even more intense. But if only Oliver could realise that age makes no difference to when you love someone.
I can’t reveal too much and spoil that absolute delight that this story held. From the very first chapter, I was captivated. Cassandra Dean’s writing is impeccable and flows with such ease. I loved every conversation between Lydia and Oliver, but also found the secondary characters, added such a great dimension to this story. Both Lord and Lady Demartine, and their children, were fascinating in how they observed the ever-transparent feelings of Lydia and Oliver, for each other. It was also interesting to see such a mature young woman as Lydia, hold onto her feelings, allowing Oliver, the older man, time to mature and realise that theirs was a love that went beyond their age difference.
A must read and definitely one to treasure. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
