A great guide for camping! It was straightforward and easy to understand and had a great section on National Parks. It also covers a lot of basics, especially what you should be taking with you. (Which I needed a refresher on. My dad used to advise me on what to pack, but now that he has passed it is up to me to remember.)

The Pendleton Field Guide to Camping is and absolute delight.
This book takes us through introductions to some of the USA's national parks, for each of which Pendleton has made a unique and beautiful blanket.
The book first introduces some of the most popular national parks, and then moves onto the least visited. This includes parks you must boat to, and even one you have to be flown to on a helicopter.

This beautiful book is filled with interesting and fun facts, beautiful illustrations and exciting history.

I would recommend this book to the avid road-tripper, or as a gift for that relative that's always difficult to by for.

If you enjoy camping and learning more about National Parks, as well as camping in general, this is a good book to read. You will learn some information about the parks, such as Yosemite National Park and learn what National Parks are out there to explore. When to visit each park is mentioned too. Also included are important information from what kind of wildlife you might enjoy encountering and history of the parks. You’ll get some brief information on trails and other offerings at each park. The information is brief for each park, but it is interesting and a nice park introduction. Readers will get such as advice as if they should visit on weekdays or weekends of certain parks and what time of year is best too.

I expected this more to be a guide on how to camp, but it was more a general overview of many things. A lot of the book consists of national parks and tidbits on them like facts and when is the best to go. I think this part would have been made better with photos of the parks, but I also understand that this is a company and so they want to show their designs that go with the parks. The actual parts on camping just weren't as in depth as I would like it. They included information on the different types of camping, essentials, pitching a tent making a fire, camping with kids, camping with dogs, and more. It all had good information, but I think it only touches on the basics and isn't enough to get you ready to go camping. To get a general overview on things though this was a good book and the page designs were very nice.

I'm so confused by what the purpose of this book is. The first half is all about NPs in the US but doesn't tell you where to camp at those NPs. Then the second half is a basic guide how to go camping.
The eARC was hard to read due to the copyright mark across the centre of the page. Some useful new information on the parks available inside but I wouldn't recommend purchasing this book. It should be just given away as a promotional item (I was very surprised to see it for sale on the book sellers websites). More informative pictures and information can be found elsewhere unfortunately.

This is a pretty basic and condensed introduction to the world of camping. I think it’s a good starter book, particularly if you’re camping in the USA, as it lists national parks and includes short descriptions of each one. It quickly describes different forms of camping such as backpacking, bicycle camping, car camping, etc. thereby introducing you to various methods which you can then further research. It includes some good tips for beginners, including how to pitch a tent, select a campsite, build a fire, wash dishes, etc. It also has a section dedicated to camping with kids that provides helpful information and recommendations to help everything run more smoothly. As well as a great section on camping with dogs and how to do it with your dog’s safety and comfort in mind. Overall, this book would work best for absolute beginners who want to learn more but aren’t quite sure where to start or what questions to ask. It is essentially, a decent jumping-off point.

Pendleton Field Guide to Camping reads like a series of webpages from different sites. Its not terrible but doesn't hold up to expectations for something of Pendelton quality. The information is very basic so only a beginner level would learn new information. Funds would be better spent on purchasing or downloading camping and park information from the National Park Service.

I got a digital copy of this book and it was hard to read it because of the copyright watermark blocking the words. I was able to understand the idea of the book and as a camper I already know most of the stuff in this book but it's great for first timers. This book tells you what to bring and how to organize the camping area, and gives you some ideas of places to go camping in the US and when to go. It gives you some nice tips and it's like a to-do list before going camping. I would use it to make sure I'm not leaving any behind. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

The Pendleton Field Guide to Camping is an interesting book to read on basic, glossy history of National Parks. The information on camping is very basic with little information on how to camp, tips and tricks, and illustrations to help new campers navigate sleeping in the outdoors. Additionally, while the book focuses on National Parks, it is lacking good information on camping inside the parks.

A quick and simple to read guide for beginners who hold curiosity about camping and the outdoors. Pendleton's Feild Guide snapshots each US National Park, and details lists and websites to reference for further camping advice. This is a great book for those who have not had much experience with camping, and makes the outdoors accessible by creating a sort-of DIY guide. By no means is this book intended to be a sole camping guide, but perhaps a coffee table book to crack open and lead the reader in a direction of where their interest lies next.

The styling of the book is great. Very nice graphics are sprinkled throughout. As a camping book, there is nothing inside you could not get from a decent website. Perhaps if you have never camped before it would be useful. As a coffee table book it falls short because it is almost entirely text and cute graphics. This was a big miss for Pendleton. I really wish there had been some great photography. How do you list your favorite national parks and not include photos of them. Coffee table books are meant to be perused and revisited. There is no reason to revisit this book.

I love the cohesive design and great content of this guide for camping with a touch of Pendleton history. I think it would have benefited from some more pictures on the pages featuring National Parks.

The Pendleton Field Guide to Camping is an outdoors guide for all ages from Pendleton Woolen Mills. Due out 31st March 2020 from Chronicle Books, it's 208 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a well done, information rich resource with a logical and easy to follow format. A short introduction is followed by an essay on the benefits and attractions of camping and the outdoors as well as a listing of some US national parks, their locations and attractions followed by some suggestions for finding enjoyable non-park camping possibilities. This chapter also includes a number of good online resources for planning camping trips as well as tips on finding camping spots in less traveled areas. The next sections give an overview of types of trips (backpacking, cycle camping, motorcycle/car camping, vans, campers, and 'glamping'). Possibly the most useful information in the book is presented in chapter 5 with detailed lists of equipment and resources which will make most preparation successful and stress-free.

The third section contains suggestions and plans for actually executing the preparation and getting outdoors. There are special sub-chapters on camping with kids and pets (dogs). There are a lot of good tips for camping appropriate gear, snacks, and some general rules.

Camping is a wonderful way to use free time and has numerous physical and mental health benefits. This is a good support and resource book for getting active and getting outdoors.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
What first caught my attention about this book is that it's by Pendleton Woolen Mill. I have visited there many times and love their high quality items. Plus I love camping so I knew this book would be a win.
The sections are very informative. The national parks information was interesting and I like that they mentioned less popular national parks.
The rest of the book gives great advice for people who are new to camping or people who haven't camped in a while and could use a refresher.

I liked it and it would be great to read it in the final release due to the watermarks.

First off, this book was kind of annoying to read with the giant copyright watermark blocking the words, but I still really enjoyed it. The first part of the book, with the history of the parks and a little info about them was my favorite. I found several parks that I'm now interested in visiting that I probably would have never considered. My only critique would be that I wish there were pictures to accompany the section about each park. I feel like with photos this would have been a 5 star book.

Being an Oregonian, I am a huge fan of Pendleton Woolen Mills – their blankets are so nice and warm and beautiful! Plus, my grandpa worked for Pendleton for years and years, so I’ve known of them for, well, forever. So, when I saw Pendleton was releasing a camping book, of course I had to download it, even though I absolutely refuse to go camping. I mean, why? Civilization has evolved to the point where you don’t have to live in the outdoors.

The book would’ve been easier to see had it not been for the gigantic and very opaque watermark going through the center of each page, assuring us all that this book is copyrighted. But, beyond the watermark is a guide to all of the US’s national parks, and all sorts of camping tips and suggestions, including how to care for your Pendleton blanket while you camp! Yay! There is also tips for food safety while camping, and for keeping your dog comfy and happy during your trip!

For all you campers out there who are also Pendleton Woolen Mills fans, there is a lot to love here. As for me, I’ll be over here. Staying in a hotel, enjoying a hot shower and a warm bed inside a building that is definitely rain proof.

An excellent guide for any and everyone. Whether a camping pro or newbie, the information in this book is interesting and educational. Even if you're not a camper, you'll find the info interesting.

I don't know what stood out to me in selecting this book to read. I don't...camp. At all. I've gone maybe a handful of times in my life? Whether it was the cover art or the description, I wanted to read it. This field guide made me want to go camping too. This book was an uncorrected digital arc that I received for the purpose of reviewing. The art is just so stunning. I couldn't get over it. Honestly most of the park illustrations would make a great hipstery tattoo (not in a bad way). The history sections were brief but intriguing. I don't mind that part being so brief because it was concise (but very interesting)! I think I missed being able to see the actual park images on the pages. I'm not sure it would fit the aesthetic of the book, but I did find myself missing the view. I really enjoyed the established by dates and the when to go section. Crater Lake is the park I'm most tempted to go to now! I didn't realize there were other ways to camp besides the old tent set up so that was neat! The how to camp section was by far the most interesting section and the real meat of the book. The most important section of that was probably how to make a good cup of coffee. This book really covers their bases in a way that only extremely well-prepared people or people with anxiety would. I really appreciated that there was an entire section to keeping your dog safe while camping. One of the only times I've been camping was with my dog and some of our friends and it was very stressful. I think beyond the casual and enthusiastic campers, this would be a great book for preppers to read
