I dare you to try to figure this book out. You won't. You'll think you have. And then there's another twist. You'll think you have figured it out again. And then something else comes out of nowhere. It's a legal thriller, a domestic suspense novel, and a psychological thriller, all wrapped up into one....this book has so many parts to it; it's very fast paced, the beginning hooks you immediately, and then you don't want to set it down. Was it all realistic? Eh....Not so much....And I was still left with a lot of unresolved questions.....But did I love it? Absolutely! McCreight's writing is top notch.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

This is a great mystery/thriller. I read it very quickly as I was quite invested in the story. McCreight does a great job of revealing secrets throughout the book, and I was not quite sure what was going to be revealed next. I would highly recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Psychological thrillers take a lot to impress me, so I can’t give this a rave review, but I did find this book enjoyable, and did not guess the ending. I did find some of the twists and coincidences pretty Unbelievable., and just about every character was completely unlikable, but it was a well crafted story and written very well.

I really wanted to love this book. The premise sounded intriguing, and I enjoyed the addition of some well to do parents in the mix. But in the end, I feel like this book tried to cover too many topics and there were just too many coincidences for me to really appreciate the story. This was a book that I thought I should fly through, but I found myself constantly being surprised by how much more there was to go. I have read a number of books by this author and know that I will likely enjoy the next one more. Thank you to Net Galley and to Kimberly McCreight and the publisher for providing me with this ARC.

Ever since Reconstructing Amelia, Kimberly McCreight has been a favorite author of mine. A Good Marriage falls into the same vein of twisty, psychological suspense as her others and does not disappoint. Multiple marriages are explored as a lawyer, Lizzie, tries to solve the murder of a college friend’s wife, Amanda. Alternatively narratives create an aura of suspense right through to unexpected ending, with lots of red herrings along the way. The only slight negative was that it started off slowly for me and did not capture my attention right from the get-go like her other books. Nonetheless, I will forever be a fan and recommend this and all of McCreight’s books to fans of psychological fiction.

Many thanks to Netgalley, Harper and Kimberly McCreight for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Legal thriller, domestic suspense, marriage introspective – A Good Marriage is all of these as well as just a darn good story of people dealing with their kids, their spouses and their pasts. You will be pulled in immediately when Lizzie is contacted by an old college beau who is in Rikers charged with the murder of his wife, and you won’t be able to put it down until all their secrets have been revealed and justice has been served.

Another great mystery/thriller from McCreight! I love how her writing moved the story along so quickly. McCreight is quickly becoming one of my favorites with the way she can balance domestic lives and complicated characters with an interesting mystery.

This was a well written book that was part legal drama, part domestic thriller. Lots of fast action that propels the story at a fast pace and makes it hard to put down.

Lizzie is a lawyer who has found herself in a tough situation. Her husband, Sam, is an alcoholic. Because of his actions, she is forced to give up her dream job to work at an elite law firm to help pay off the debt her husband has caused. One night she gets an unexpected phone call from an old law school friend...who is accused of killing his wife. Against her better judgment, she helps him...but is he really innocent?

One of the things I really appreciated about this book was the fact that the relationship side of things was realistic. Sometimes you'll read books and everyone has the "perfect" marriage. This one shows the reality of marriage and long term relationships. One of the messages of the book was that with real love, you may have fights and issues, but you work through them.

I also liked the fact that we got to see Lizzie's side as a lawyer trying to find out what happened after the fact, and that we see Amanda's (the wife) side as things are happening. There are a lot of twists in the story, and I can't say I was expecting what happened in the end at all! I know a book is good when I want to keep reading it to find out what happened. I definitely recommend this book!!!!

This was a fast-paced page-turner. The action starts right at the beginning with a call from Rikers Island prison and doesn't slow down until the very end. A murder in the posh part of Brooklyn, a sex party, an acoholic etc. It's all happening in Brooklyn and the reader slowly finds out how all the different characters are connected. An enjoyable read with a few good twists. Perfect plane or beach reading.

Wow! I couldn’t put this one down. I loved the story told in this novel, from following what happened to Amanda to finding out how Lizzie’s story connected. Such a suspense that is definitely a beach read this summer.

A Good Marriage is a fresh, very well written and very smart read. At the level of plot/setting, we have a mix of Little Big Lies and a court room thriller, with some #metoo. McCreight is a very good writer, and her terrific prose and nuanced sensibility make this a stand out excellent novel. As well as providing deliciously snarky takes on pop culture, the novel is thoughtful, and I cared about the characters; it is engrossing and well paced, twisty but its twists are earned.

An excellent mystery/suspense read!

The characters are well depicted and the plotline - solid.

The reader is left spellbound in suspense when Lizzie works as the defense attorney on Zach's murder case. This, of his wife's murder, Amanda.

Zach and Lizzie went to law school together and were best friends for a while. They lost touch until he calls Lizzie from Rikers penitentiary...

A solid mystery/suspense read that does not disappoint. Recommend!

Many Thanks to HarperCollins, Publishers and NetGalley for a great read.

McCreight's latest will appeal to established fans and pull in new ones. A recommended purchase for adult fiction collections.

I adored Reconstructing Amelia so I was excited for this one, and it was crazy good! Is the term good marriage and oxymoron? It appears that all of the couples in this book have issues (who doesn't?) and keep secrets from their spouses and even from themselves. When Lizzie is contacted by an old friend to defend him in the murder of his wife, she worries as she's had no criminal defense experience and all the evidence points toward him. But things are tricky and get trickier as the novel goes on and we meet Lizzie's friends who all have something to hide. It's a convoluted but fascinating plot as everything comes together and everything you may think you have pieced together comes unglued with the final twist! And even though marriage is hard, McCreight shows us that hard work and forgiveness go a long way when we are faced with what seem to be insurmountable problems.

Talk about not knowing where a book is going until you get there! I can't say much about the plot without giving anything away. I really enjoyed this book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lizzie is going through a lot. Her husband is an alcoholic and they are in debt. She changed her job from her dream job to a job that paid more money, and the last thing she expected to get was a phone call asking for help from a former friend from law school has for her services. Zach is in jail after accidentally hitting an officer when he came home to find his wife murdered. Lizzie is not forced by her boss to represent him and to uncover all of the hidden secrets of the Park Slope and Brooklyn Day School families.

Many thrillers blend together but this one written by Kimberly McCreight is like no other that I have read. The author does a great job creating a storyline that hooks you from the beginning and keeps you motivated to keep reading. Her characters are totally believable and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you off balance. Excellent book and very well done! #AGoodMarriage #Kimberly McCreight # NetGalley

I liked the author's first two adult books and I thought this one was good too. It got better as it went along. I like a story that isn't too simplistic and has a few surprises. I don't think any of the main characters had good marriages, but they sure had messed up ones. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Good Marriage will keep you guessing. Great suspense book! Perfect neighborhood best private school. How can there be a murder? Lizzie an attorney gets a call from a old friend Zach from law school. His wife Amanda was murdered and he’s in jail. Lizzie’s life isn’t going well with her alcoholic husband Sam. Really interesting and edge of your seat thriller.
