Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

I absolutely loved the illustrations and learning all about Scandi living! The different sections, such as the how-to's and recipes really added that little bit extra to an already enjoyable read, perfect for those longer winter evenings. This would make a great coffee table book and one to definitely keep going back to.

I really got into this book - maybe embarrassingly so. Though this book covers all seasons, the perfect time to sink your teeth into this book is in the wintertime when you're feeling chilled to the bone and miserable. My favorite sections were about hygge, taking winter walks and open faced sandwiches.

Hygge isn't just about candles and blankets. It's about togetherness and belonging - creating connection in a space, yes, but also with other people. A deep feeling of coziness with others.

I loved the section about walking on the weekends no matter the weather. You always take an orange with your and a bit of chocolate.

And then, I enjoyed the open-faced sandwich section so much that I bought the cook book "Open Sandwiches: 70 Smorrebrod Ideas for Morning, Noon and Night." We had fun for weeks making different combinations for snacks and lunches. They are great for kids too.

The book is easy to read through and broken up well with photos. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

A beautifully illustrated guide to different aspects of Scandinavian culture. Lots of useful information for anybody who is considering moving or just travellin to Sweden, Norway or Denmark. The book is fairly comprehensive: there are chapters on style, food, sports, dating, parenting, superstitions and celebrations. My favourites were on how to cope with never-ending daytime, top ten vikings and nordic mythological creatures.
Wonderful sense of humour and lots of interesting facts about this beautiful region.

This was a funny, fast read, a sort of self-conscious travel guide. It plays with the stereotypes of Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian culture. It's a great guide for someone planning to spend a bit of time in one or all of these countries. Great pictures and layout.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC for the purpose of an unbiased review.

The Little Book of Scandi Living by Brontë Aurell is a culturalist's dream! This nifty little tome gives a great overview of the region known as 'Scandinavia', and the countries that comprise it. Aurell points out that each of these countries is unique in it's own way, aside from the umbrella term. This dives into different cultural aspects, including clothing, language, and holidays. I especially loved the language sections, with the idioms unique to each culture. If I still taught cultural awareness classes, this book would surely end up in one! Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy learning about different cultures.

***Many thanks to the Netgalley & Quarto Publishing for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A charming little book that tells you everything you need to know about the countries of Scandinavia - and how to tell the difference between them.

Absolutely loved this little book of all things Scandinavian and the range of similarities and differences of the three countries that comprise this term.
Having spent time in Sweden with family I found it both instructive and informative. The humour in the writing and easy going literary style made it a pleasure to read.
The book defines Scandinavia as Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The goes to talk about style, food and drink, culture, outdoor living, family living and celebrations.
A wonderful insight into these wonderful countries and their people and why we love IKEA, flights to their capitals and catching some hygge.
Swedish buns, Danish style and Norwegian cabin
Fever had me laughing out loud.
With beautiful pictures and such a range of detail from Vikings to Valhalla, Falu red to Fat Tuesday. I especially loved the non-political explanation of why their societies where so balanced and open. I may now appreciate their reserve in speaking to strangers knowing if you ease past that, you will have so much fun and friends for life.

Perfect book! I love how easy this book is to read and how interesting it was. When it comes to books like this, the photos and illustrations are really important to me. This book's illustrations were perfect; they were an ideal blend of whimsy and minimal. They really enhanced the book and made it even better to read. I also love how detailed this book was and how it really sought to teach the reader something.

This was delightful. I felt like I was reading the full length version of the webcomic Scandinavia and the World. Aurell breaks down the different categories in fun and easy to read sections, with lots of pictures. I really want to visit now, though I would not be able to pronounce anything, and I'm not sure I could eat fermented herring/shark. I still find it fascinating that leaving children sleeping in their prams in the open air is such a thing. That could definitely not happen in America. I'm also very jealous of their maternity/paternity leave. This was so much fun.

I'd like to thank Netgalley and White Lion Publishing for sharing an ARC in exchange for a fair review.

I wrote a report on Norway while in primary school and learned quite a bit at the time. But many decades later, my recall is rather hazy and then there's the limited scope of my research. Like most of us living outside the area, my understanding is pretty general and it's mostly due to pop culture that I know what I do know (or think I know). So it was great for this little book to come along and provide a quick education on Scandinavia. This book packs a lot into limited space. It covers topics from food to relationships to dealing with the dark days of winter. And it includes plenty of photographs to illustrate.

For what it is, it's a lovely book and is sure to entertain many of us interested in cultures other than our own.
Overall, I rate this 3.5 stars.

This is a cute little book all about the good life up north. It was a light, fast read with pictures that show you what they are talking about and the food. It gives keys ways of life and also key words that used and explain what is important to them. Overall, a fun read with little things to add to your life as well.

I loved this book and I am moving anywhere in Scandinavia. The pages "how to be Danish/Swedish/etc" were very funny. Learning about the foods and concepts and style and culture was so much fun. The author has a great sense of humour and embraced it wholeheartedly in this book.

Now excuse me as I am going to have some fika.

A strange and hilarious little book. Part guidebook, part satire, with very dry wit. Will appeal to readers will enjoy their travelogues with a bit of snark. There are even some recipes.

Much has now been written about hygge, lagom, fika and other takes on Scandinavian culture. Now that winter is here, this may be the perfect time to learn more about the Scandinavian countries and what makes each unique.  This gorgeously illustrated, at times tongue in cheek, book is a good starting point. Subjects covered include style, food, the outdoors, family life, culture and celebrations.  Enjoy your trip to Sweden, Norway and Denmark with Bronte Aurell; he makes quite a guide.
