Cookie Are Magic by Maida Heatter is a great book, full of wonderful recipes and much more. Cookies are Magic includes not only recipes, but also inside stories that take place over Maida Heatter 50 year career. The drool making recipes are easy to follow, and I have already picked out a few recipes to try. If you enjoy baking cookies, bars, and brownies I highly recommend this wonderful book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Easy to follow recipes with great instructions! I can't wait to bake them all! I do wish there were a few more pictures though.

It is written by master chef Maida Hearter who departed this world after a successful and fulfilling career.
I never knew there are so many coockies. I occassionally cook cookies in air fryer at home.
There is a complete collection of many lovely coockies.
I liked recepie of granny's sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, coconut coockies and black pepper crackers.
Because ingredients of these are available in our kitchen.
Once covid-19 relents I plan to purchase erythritol, vanilla essence and other ingredients.
It is a very good collection. Illustrations drawn are wonderful and give us idea about final cookies
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.

This is one of a few republications of Maida Heatter's wonderful recipes. Her recipes are always wonderful and it is especially nice to see them being republished and shared with the a new audience. However, there are a few recipes that seem to appear in all of the books coming out now, with little that it is new. It would have been been great to improve on the originals by including step by step illustrations. I understand the desire to keep with the line drawings of the originals books but baking can be complex and showing, rather than just describing, would help bakers of all abilities.

Cookies Are Magic is a cookbook by the late Maida Heatter. It contains almost 100 recipes for Cookies (Biscuits), Brownies, Bars etc. Some are easy, some are complex and others contain unusual ingredients such as pepper and sour cream. I loved the story behind the 100 year old Joe Froggers recipe. The Florida Lemon Squares sound delicious and I would like to try making them. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy of this cookbook.

This one was a ton of fun - I loved the personal stories included with the recipes as well as the new twists on the classics. The "Baking for new Bakers" section was very easy to understand and straightforward. They are full proof so you are sure not to fail when trying something new.

I would definitely recommend this one!

As a mom of two who enjoy cookies, this was a fun book. Tagged some recipes I think my two would enjoy making in the holidays. Bound to be enjoyed by all.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this book.

Cookies Are Magic is full of well tested recipes with specific steps to ensure great results. This book probably covers any standard cookies recipe you could want and also many you've never encountered. I liked that the chapters are split into the type of cookie - drop, bar, icebox, rolled, hand-formed, and "more" (those that didn't fit in the other chapters). Each recipe has a drawing, and I would have preferred they be color photos, especially for the cookies I was unfamiliar with. I also enjoyed that some recipes included variation info.
I received a ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Another great book by Ms. Heatter. I don't have any flour to try the recipes, but I've noted which ones I want to try as soon as flour becomes available at my supermarket. Hopefully, it will be while I still have access to this ARC.

As usual, Ms. Heatter gives great advice to readers in the "Before You Bake" section. I especially liked the inclusion of Icebox Cookies -- a group often overlooked. I can't wait to see the forward by Deb Perelman in the final edition. Good choice.

In this book, we learn how we can make various tyes of cookies such as mint, ginger and lemon which stand out as my favourites to try to make from this collection though they all sound delicious! With easy to follow instructions and list of needed ingredients and tools anyone can give these a go!

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

This huge cookbook contains a compendium of every possible cookie recipe you could imagine. Be aware that these are not all "easy" recipes, but they're clearly well-loved and tested. I'm particularly interested in the ones containing fruits, such as Palm Beach Pineapple Squares or Old-Fashioned Jumbo Lemon Wafers. These are a bit out of the ordinary and worth a try. The only negative is that this pre-publication copy does not have any photographs of the cookies. There are some rustic line drawings, but I hope that they will be replaced by photos. That would add tremendous value to this cookbook.

A treasure trove of Cookie Magic, this book is titled properly! Maida Heatter, a great famous baker with great recipes with great directions! Her recipes are a legend as well as she is! This is a must-have cookie book in any baker's repertoire! 5 delicious, easy stars!

I used to make Maida Heatter's Blondies for an annual bake sale. My boss would come and buy up the whole plate! They have been a favorite recipe since I bought the Book of Great Cookies in the late 1970s.

Heatter passed away last year at age 102. I am relieved to know that baking desserts did not shorten her life. Because we are in the COVID-19 Lock Down in Michigan and I feel the urge to make cookies and eat chocolate like I haven't felt in years.

And yea! Here are some of Heatter's best recipes for cookies and chocolate desserts being published in new collections!

The instructions begin with all the basics--information on how to read the recipe, select and prepare your ingredients, the equipment needed, even storing your baked goods.

Cookies Are Magic is divided into drop, bar, ice box, rolled, and hand-formed cookies, and 'More!" which includes Madeleines, shortbread, lady fingers, biscotti and, well, more.

You will find Mrs. L.B.J.'s Moonrocks and Giant Ginger Cookies; Georgia Pecan Bars and Florida Lemon Squares; Peanut Butter Pillows and Coconut Cookies; Plan Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies and Checkboards; Kansas Cookies and Charlie Brown's Peanut Cookies.

I love a chewy cookie and am eager to try Oatmeal Molasses Cookies with shredded coconut and nuts.

I received a free ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. My review is fair and unbiased.

Good cookie cookbook. Full of almost 100. Recipes that are traditional and yummy too. The only star I took away was because it was not available in Kindle format.

A huge variety of cookie recipes, definitely thinking this will be a great book to have in December in time for cookie swaps.

This is an easy-to-follow recipe book filled with all the delights that come to mind in regards to cookies and more! I like the conversation-like text for each of the step-by-step directions. My only wish was that there were actual pictures of the recipes, rather than a drawing. I think that would have made some of the recipes more enticing to try and to replicate.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for this electronic book in exchange for my honest review.

It's obvious Maida Heatter knows how to bake cookies, but can I, an amateur, replicate one of her delicious goodies? Well, with this book I have high hope that I may be able to do that. Categorized into drop, bar, icebox, rolled, and hand-formed cookies, this isn't just a book with tons of recipes that make your mouth water, in every recipe she describes the precise technique, the do's and don'ts and things you have to be careful or even be relaxed about (does the mixture of your Kansas cookies appear curdled? It's OK.) Whether you have been baking cookies for a long time or just starting, this is the one book you need in your shelf.

The book makes use of 'illustrations' as opposed to actual pictures of the baked cookies - which is a huge letdown for me. I mean, if Heatter had time to sort out recipes, they could've been baked and photographed too.

I've noted down a few recipes (Fig Bars, Johnny Appleseed Squares, Charleston Cheesecake Bars, 10-years old-chef Brownies, Texas Cowboy Bars, California Fruit Bars, Lebkuchen German Cookies, some of the 'icebox' cookies - which were confusing because I thought they just needed to be chilled / refrigerated only and not baked, Joe Froggers, French Macaroons, Coconut Washboards, Connecticut Strippers, ) and am looking forward to trying them out. I like the small-town and international travel feel to how Heatter came about with the various recipes given in this book.

This is a proper traditional cake/cookie / brownie / energy bars / rusks book, so anyone with gluten, dairy allergy and autoimmune inflammation will have to look for alternatives to eggs and milk and butter and corn syrup and sugar, etc. and that will change the result - because as Heatter herself notes, all recipes have to be followed ad verbatim.

Thanks to the publisher for the ARC.

I am a lover of cookbooks and a lover of cookies so this book was a hit for me. I made the Polish Wedding Cakes (which are actually bars with a great crust and apricot filling). My entire family absolutely loved them and I will definitely be making this recipe again and again.

The main issue with this cookbook is the lack of photos. Yes, I know, cookbook readers are spoiled by photos of each recipe in most cookbooks. But there's a reason. We eat with the eyes first. I loved the recipes in this book, but would have given the book an easy 5 stars if there were photographs of at least most of the recipes.

If you love cookies and don't need a photo of the recipes this cookbook will be sure to become a favorite!
