This is my is favorite Juliet Blackwell mystery and I always look forward to a new book in this series.
Contractor Mel Turner is bidding on the rehab of a once glorious theatre from the age of silent pictures that is now a mess. Already there are problems and the renovation has not even begun. Squatters are living in the building and on her first walkthrough Mel watches their leader, Isabella, dancing on the stage with abandoned joy, only to realize moments later she’s actually just been killed. Yes, Mel Turner can see and hear ghosts, and that’s what makes this series so much fun. There is another ghost in the home she and her fiancée Landon just purchased and she can’t help but think the two are connected.

This series is great on so many levels. With her books set in San Francisco, Blackwell takes you over the entire city and surrounding areas immersing you in the areas interesting buildings and city’s history. Having never been there it’s a wonderful way for me to get to know the city. I also find it fascinating to learn about the details of renovations that she provides. And I love Mel, her family and quirky friends.

My only complaint is there's too long a wait between books. I’d like to read a new one at least once a year. I didn’t realize Mel and Landon were engaged and had to go over her past books to make sure I hadn’t missed one. I hadn’t so it’s just too long since the last book. This is a popular series at our library as well. I highly recommend every book in this series, and you can start with any one of them and still get the full picture.
