First let me begin by saying that I jumped into this series starting with this book. As soon as I began reading I realized I should have probably learned more about the series and familiarized myself with the different individuals.. This was the first time reading a book with interaction between so many different monster type characters. I enjoyed the friendship and bond they shared. Knowing that Tom was in a bad situation, I liked reading how his friends were ready to find their way to him and determined to help make sure he succeeded in his journey; making it back to their current time period safely.

They didn’t show fear knowing or not knowing what they may face on their voyage and the author did a great job with the interaction between Tom and his friends in the two different time periods. I liked how he made certain characters relevant in both time periods and how they interacted with one another in both time periods.

Something I didn’t care for were all the different people that were introduced so quickly in the beginning of the story. I had a hard time keeping up with how many different people being thrown at me within the first couple chapters. I actually wrote down everyone’s name just so I knew who I had already met and how they were relevant to the story or Tom. But, thankfully as the story got going we focused on Tom and his monster friends going back in time to defeat the sorcerer; and the main characters seemed to be our only focus from that point forward.

I could see myself going back to book one and starting this series from the beginning to gain a better understanding of Thomas Knight and his friends. I’d really like to see how they all met each other and if Tom knew from the start that he was a guardian of magic, or is this something the author introduces as we get to know Tom and he really gets to know himself. My overall rating for the book was 3 stars. I liked it. There wasn’t anything that jumped out and really grabbed my attention, and it had a few slow parts in the beginning. However, once Tom went back in time the story picked up and was enjoyable.
