This book was received as an ARC from BooksGoSocial in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

At first I did not know if I would even like this book because I am not a horror fan at all but a lot of our patrons and our community are so I had to look into it for them. Immediately I was transported into the plot of the story learning the background of Blackwater and why it's cursed with a series of unfortunate events. Then enters Joseph Blackthorne who jumps at the opportunity to move in the area despite all that has been going on over at Blackwater and lucky for Joseph he little to no belief in the paranormal or any of the series of unfortunate events that are bound to happen. Later Joseph battles problems with alcohol so much that it puts his life at risk similar to the previous tenants at Blackwater and the whole town is in a frenzy and Joseph still has a chance to save the town, his family and especially himself if he recognizes the problems in time. I could not be more wrong about this book. What attracted me the most is the thrillers all across the novel that balanced out with the horror elements. I can't wait to share this title with our library community.

We will consider adding this title to our Adult Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

DNF at 58%. The characters are awful. The pacing is so fast and so much is going on. The back to back scares really takes away all of the scare factor. Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to try this book out.

If someone twlls you a hill is haunted, maybe don't build a house there and move your family in. That's my takeaway from this novel, Interesting book, not terrifying, but will keep you involved.

A short horror story that can be read in a sitting. It took me a little longer than I thought to get through this one. I am going to blame reading when I was tired and not feeling great. It is a twisted paranormal/horror story, cult like set in the 1950's. Gruesome in parts, slow in others. Evil lurks in the Blackthorne house which was built on a hill by an old cemetery and water well that had a witch hung from it.

I found the author's writing style did fit the theme of the story and I did enjoy it. I would recommend it to readers of short stories. I think that it could have been developed a bit more and had some more interaction in it with the characters.

I give this a 3 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this title for review purpose. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I liked this short story. I was hooked in right away . I found it is well written. But I just wish it was a little bit longer

2.5 stars. It was good, creepy, builds up some scared moments at some parts. But, when the story begins to open “who’s Bobbie” it suddenly changes become a first person reading. I’m confused when the sentence starts with “I” but it still mention the names of the characters from the story, so did I miss one character here? And I’m unclear about what is each of the character background story, it just keeps going and going without opening it, until the book ends. It’s a short reading but too short for the dialogue, the background story.

I'm sorry but unfortunately this wasn't for me. I couldn't connect with the writing style and think it could have benefited from a bit of polishing. I also found it difficult to care about any of the characters and the story as a whole. Overall it just wasn't a good fit for me.
