I sadly just had a hard time getting into this one.
Not that it was a bad book. From what I read it was well written and had good chemistry and characters. For persoanl reasons, I just struggled to find a book to hold my attention when I started this one. And wound up not finishing it.

But what I did read I really did enjoy and would suggest to pick a copy.

I originally wasn't sure of how I was going to feel about this book when I started it. But as I got further into it, I got sucked further in. I actually ended up devouring it in a few sittings. In fact, I was late getting back to work from lunch since I was so invested. Mackie and Dan are two people with a history, but they don't let it bother their chances of becoming something. Dan finds someone to act as his safe harbor, and Mackie finds someone who teaches her what it feels like to really be loved. As their story grows, we see Mackie's relationship with her father changes, her relationship with Gallant Lake, and even with her friends all for the better. She seems to settle more into herself.

I enjoyed very second!

What a sweet and funny small town romance read! I really enjoyed both of the main characters and the drama that followed them like a shadow. The story flowed really well and had a lot of emotional depth. I was pleasantly surprised by the suspenseful ending but would have liked to see more from this couple than the abrupt HEA. A great read overall!

Just couldn't help love an overly romantic but somehow still realistic story about growing into your true self and navigating a world that still sees you as you use to be. I never tire of the second chance love stories.

A free e-arc, review is my own.

Cute small town homecoming romance. Pacing was a little off but it was a cute read to take my mind off the craziness the world has fallen to. It was just okay book for me. A second chance romance where both characters are vastly different from their high school selves. It was an interesting concept but a little too cheesy for me.

Mackenzie Wallace hopes there’s still some bad boy lurking beneath single father Danny Adams’s upright exterior. Being the proverbial good girl left her brokenhearted and alone in the past. Now she’s back in town and wants excitement with her high school crush—not love. Dan knows their connection runs deep, despite Mackenzie’s protests. But will their new personas work together—especially when Dan’s secret is exposed?
This was a sweet story that I just enjoyed reading. It was quick-paced and flowed easily and just a good story. I liked both main characters. I recommend.

This is a sweet read mixed with some humor and a dash of spice. Mac and Danny were good. As much as Mac would like to think she was not such a good girl, she could never fully be a "bad" one. Danny used to be the "bad" boy but with his job as sheriff and his daughter, Chloe; he has lost a lot of his "wild" side. However, being around Mac does bring out some of it in Danny. These two pair nicely with one another.

I like that Mac and Danny did not have an "insta love". Despite the fact that Mac did have a crush on Danny when she was younger. Therefore, when they did actually hook up it felt more real. I do want to take a moment to spend a moment speaking about Chloe. She was such a cutie. The things she would say would put a smile on your face. As they say, kids say the darndest things. For a quick, sweet read readers may want to pick up a copy of this book.

This was a perfect mind break, brain candy read. Honestly, nothing about this book blew me away, but I did love the homecoming, small town vibes. The characters were super 2-dimensional, but the setting was great!

This is a story about labels - or rather, what we do with them. In high school, Mackenzie was the "good girl" - the perfect student, the model child. Danny "Danger Dan" Adams was the bad boy - the tattooed biker always in trouble. Move on a decade or two and things have changed - Mack is newly divorced and back in her hometown, trying to shed her goody two-shoes image once and for all. Danny is the obvious choice - but it seems that he has already done some shedding, and left behind his danger days in favour of being a good Dad to his daughter Chloe and keeping his hometown safe in his capacity as Sheriff.

I liked Mack instantly - I felt like I knew exactly who she was and where she was coming from right from the second we met her. I loved her spirit and how she wouldn't let people pigeonhole her. Dan took a little longer for me to warm to - I believe that he has appeared in other books in the Gallant Lake Series, so fans of that will no doubt be delighted to see him have his own storyline. I did find him slightly over-the-top at times but Mackenzie kept him in check, always correcting him when she felt he was overstepping or encouraging him to seek help when his work/life balance was all over the place.

Other things I loved about this story - the relationship between Dan and his ex-wife was so lovely, they were so respectful of each other and were great co-parents to Chloe.
I loved that there was a small business ran by a gay couple, and there wasn't a big deal made about it. They were just two husbands running a business. LGBTQ+ relationships need to be as normalized as much as possible, especially in the current climate, and it was great to see that they were treated the same as every other couple.
I also loved that the sex scenes were safe, with particular emphasis on consent and contraception. Consent is sexy!

This was my first time reading anything by Jo McNally, but I really don't want to leave Gallant Lake behind, so I'll be catching up on the rest in that series. This can be read as a standalone, I didn't feel like I had missed out on anything by not having read any others.

Her Homecoming Wish is the story of Mackenzie who after her divorce returns to her hometown.

After her father falls from a ladder, she decides to help the store and has an interesting encounter with Dan, a single dad, former crush and now the town sheriff.

As they meet more frequently, love sparks but Dan has secrets and issues of his own, which would make long term commitment challenging. As for Mackenzie, she’s ready to embrace life once more and starts by making bolder choices.

I very much enjoyed this story as it was about self-discovery, healing, and second chances at love. Mackenzie is exactly what Dan needs. They both find themselves at a point in their life where they must let go of their past to be able to move forward.

Overall, it was a pleasant read with a thrilling ending.

I have to say, this role reversal was a pleasant read. You get the good girl gone rogue, Mackenzie, and the bad boy gone law abiding citizen, Danny in a reunion that was unexpected. Mackenzie is caught in an apprehension until she tells the officer that the store belongs to her father. That officer, Danny, lets go of Mackenzie and can't believe he is standing in front of his best friend's younger sister. This starting point led us to a whirlwind of a story where each character is fighting their own identities and keeping the emotional baggage they each hold at a safe distance from each other.

The moment Danny looked at Mackenzie was the moment I knew he was going to fall hard for her. Despite her protests of not liking the former bad boy, Mackenzie couldn't also help finding Danny charming and at times, irresistible. Adding on a daughter from a failed marriage, Danny is not only thinking for himself when jumping into any romance. Mackenzie wants to be free and live on the wild side after a failed marriage. Their romance was one that was slowly growing, which I appreciated. With that emotional baggage, an insta-love story would have not felt right. Although their humor filled with a dash of spice romance was one focal point, this story was more about what labels given to you when you are younger can impact you as an adult.

For Mackenzie, being perfect is no longer in her list of things to be and that pressure makes it hard for her to feel like she's gone rogue to get freedom from her past failures. Something about this focal point resonated a bit with me because I know what it feels like to have the weight of perception  of others on you and how it can make you feel inauthentic to yourself to enable that perception. On the flip side, we see how Danny has been doing his best to leave his bad boy past in the past but struggles to show people that he can truly be a changed man. The author did so well in making this a journey of finding and re-discovering themselves in a healthy way. I really enjoyed that the romance was not the main drive of the story, but the ignition the characters needed to appreciate each and themselves.

Overall, this book was a great read. I am a sucker for a romance where two people grow, where there is a man in a uniform and where secrets come to light that bring the couple closer than they have ever expected to become. It was a great romance to read around Valentine's Day that had a good amount of mushy romance and a great amount of spicy moments, action and raw emotion.

This was an alright book, it about a small-town romance. One of the only issues that I had with the story was how repetitive it was, I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over.
Mack wants to spice up her life and what better way then to get in contact with an old crush. Dan is a loving father and will do what he can to help the community out.
One of the things that I did enjoy was the bond that Dan had with his daughter Chloe.
I did want to like this book but there was just something that was missing for me.

Her Homecoming Wish is the third book in the Gallant Lake series and I am looking forward to go back and read the first two books.

This was a fun small town romance with a brother's best friend trope, which is always entertaining.

The characters were interesting with a great story.

This is a story about change, happiness and love. Mack wants to change her good-girl persona and live a bit more on the edge while Dan has responsibilities that have him living the straight and narrow life of following the law. While setting a great example for his daughter Chloe. These are not the lives that both lived when they were younger.

This was an easy read for me with the romance being a steady stream to find love. Choles characters was a pleasure to read about as was the whole community of Gallant Lake.

Mackenzie Wallace has returned home not when she wanted to but when she had to. He dad needed her and she needs to find a different side of herself after her divorce. On her first night back she comes face to face with a boy from her past. Her brother best friend Danny Adams how was always called “Danger” Dan and was always in the middle of trouble in high school with Ryan.

She soon learns that Danny Adams is not the bad boy she remembers, he is now Gallant Lake Sheriff Dan Adams. What has happened in the last 20 years she has been away?

Dan is on patrol at the end of his shift when he sees lights in the liquor store windows. He always looks out for Carl and even had a key to the shop. After he slammed the intruder into the wall he got the biggest surprise to learn is was Carl's Daughter Mackenzie - Mack.

Can a bad boy return to his younger self?

Will the girl get her way with the boy she remembers so well?

This is the third book in the Gallant Lake series and I’d definitely be interested in reading the other books when I’m in the mood for a comfort read.

It’s a quick light read. If you enjoy small town romances, the brother’s best friend hero trope, and good girls living on the edge after a heartbreak this will be your jam. I’ll admit that I have a soft spot for old high school crushes reconnecting when their older and it definitely got me in the feels!

Admittedly, while I read this quickly and enjoyed it, I didn’t fully connect with the characters so it was a solid read for me but not one I’m yelling from the rooftops (or internet) about. That being said I think a lot of folks will enjoy it for the aforementioned tropes, which it satisfies very well.

Mackenzie is a little lost when she finds herself back in her hometown. She's no longer the good girl who did everything by the book, just so she could reach for something better outside of Gallant Lake. But with a recent divorce and her father's health issues, she finds herself working at the family liquor store, trying to drum up more adventure for her life, and getting reacquainted with the townspeople--including one particular person, Dan. He was her brother's best friend, but is now a county sheriff. Does what she see in Dan now reflect what she has always seen in him, or does Dan's demons stand to get in the way of the sparks that are beginning to fly?

For a romance, this is one that a typical romance reader would love. There is your quintessential good girl, looking at her past and seeing the good in what used to be one of the bad boys. But does this give readers anything different than what they would expect from a romantic suspense? Not really. It falls in line with what you would expect. There are the typical ups and downs where they don't trust themselves to be vulnerable, but at the worst moment, their love shines through. It was a predictable read, but of course that's not always a bad thing.

It’s always a joy to read one of Jo McNally’s contemporary romances. She has this wonderful ability of juggling the light and whimsical with the emotional and serious and she is on top form with her latest tale set in Gallant Lake, Her Homecoming Wish.

Mackenzie Wallace has spent most of her life being a good girl. She got good grades in school, never stayed out too late and always did as she was told and followed each and every single rule to the letter. Mackenzie had always believed that as the poster child for good girls everywhere she was going to grow up and be a happy, fulfilled and successful adult. Sadly, reality proved to be far different as she discovered when after leaving home with the world at her feet, she found herself back at Gallant Lake, divorced, alone and with absolutely no idea what she was going to do next with her life. Being back home was bad enough, but what’s even worse is ending up slammed against the wall and mistaken for a burglar by the town’s sheriff – and her former high school crush, her brother’s former best friend, single father Danny Adams.

In high school, Danny had been Mackenzie’s polar opposite. While she was a goody-two shoes, Danny had been a daredevil who was always getting into trouble and into all sort of scrapes. Nicknamed Danger Dan, obeying the rules was not something that came easily or naturally to him, but when tragedy struck, Danny had found himself with no other option but to clean up his act and grow up. Now a single dad with a responsible and dangerous job, Dan Adams is as far removed from Mackenzie’s high school crush as it is possible to get – even though he still makes her heart race!

Mackenzie wants to shed her good girl ways and Dan is the perfect man to help her unleash her inner vixen. She is not looking for a relationship or for a lifetime of commitment, but for some fun while she’s in town while her dad recovers in the hospital. Only the short-term fling she had envisaged quickly gives way to a love that simply cannot be denied. As their feelings for one another intensify, will Dan and Mackenzie give their relationship a chance? Or will Dan’s dark secret put paid to any chance the two of them might have of a future together?

Her Homecoming Wish is a terrific read guaranteed to make readers laugh and cry in equal measure. A brilliant contemporary tale about second chances, moving on from the past and coming home, Her Homecoming Wish is sprinkled with humor, laughter, warmth and pathos and features two irresistible characters you cannot help but fall in love with.

Emotional, uplifting and feel-good, Jo McNally’s Her Homecoming Wish is simply far too good to miss!
