Through the story of a small coffee merchant, a hedonistic womanizer who is a Fascist for convenience, and the people who somehow revolve around him, the aim is to narrate the events of the " redeeming" of Trieste and the Fascist occupation of Istria. The intention is praiseworthy, but the execution is uneven: at times very interesting, at other times a little too lost in the characters' imagery. Above all, some of the parts that take place on board the stolen submarine seem put there to increase the number of pages.

I love books that have war time plots with the fiction storylines engrossed in them.
I'm not a history buff at all, yet I love history being told through novels like this - facts, without feeling like school.

This was a great read. Deep, filled with page-turning details and suspense and just enough factual details to make it all really interesting.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my complimentary ARC in exchange for an honest review. Please excuse my tardiness in posting my review as my TBR continuously grows and I keep finding so many book with so little time!

So much gratitude for this copy shared with me, always xo

This is a really intriguing and interesting read. This is a part of history that I know very little about and I found this book fascinating and informative. I am glad I read it and I would definitely read more books by this author.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
