Crazy good!!! Twisty and dark, with believable characters and smart dialogue, it held my attention to the very end.

Nora is a forensic accountant and is hired to find money. Logan and Gregg jointly own a gym called Strike. When the need for Nora to be hired on is when the "somewhat" suspense takes place.
I tend to gravitate towards books by Minnesota authors or books that take place in Minnesota because I can relate to them. I didn't care for any of the characters in this book and felt like it was missing something. I will continue to read books by this author but this one just wasn't my favorite. Thank you #netgalley for an ARC.

Mindy Mejia's Strike Me Down is about a female forensic accountant who is trying to find millions stolen from a female prize fighter's business. She is given five days (seriously) to find the missing money. I've read several of Mejia's books, which I've enjoyed. This one just fell flat for me and was really slow. Maybe it was the subject matter that I didn't connect with.

This was certainly a binge read! I really enjoyed the fast pace that the story played out, it kept me glued to the book from the moment I started reading it. The intricate plot had multiple twists and red herrings making the ending a complete shock. I would have liked to relate to Nora more but her character was so guarded that she was difficult to get a grasp on. All in all, it was a suspenseful tale that had me ready to throw some punches the whole time.

A national kickboxing company with a missing 20 million dollars is the topic of this fast paced thriller with enough twists, turns and who can you trusts to keep you reading on the edge of your seat to the very end.

I was drawn in by the cover. I'm not a huge fan of mystery books but some interest me. I was immediately confused a little bit and uninterested in the book.

Strike Me Down by Mindy Mejia is a fantastic, thrill-ride of a novel, Thank you Netgalley for giving me this wondrous opportunity for an ARC of Mindy's latest nerve touching read. This is the third book that I have by Mindy Mejia, and she truly knows how to suck a reader into her creative world.
Nora Trier used to work for one of the top corporation as a corporate accountant until she started to notice some of the accounts are not appearing to be what they actually should add up to be. Now others hire her to find out if someone, or a group of people are stealing within their comapnies.
Now Nora had a new career as a forensic accountant, finding the hidden money that people think that they hide so very well, and only for her to find it.
Nora Trier is not your typical sit behind the desk analyst, but kick butt, rough around the edges (in a good way), and take charge kind. When 20 million disappears the night before a huge kick-boxing event is to start, can Nora find out who (or whome) took the money and get it the money back. Nora has a past with one of the men she has to work with, so will hinder her case, or push her even harder?
I truly loved Strike Me Down by Mindy Mejig. . This story kept me on the edge of seat, not to mention, I did not want this story to end. Thank you again Netgalley and Mindy Mejia

A nice spy-like thriller full of suspense and twists and turns. The story was well written, developed and kept my attention throughout. This was my first Mindy Mejia book and I plan to read some more! Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I have read other books by this author in the past and have always enjoyed them. And I have to say – this book was pretty perfect for me since it’s about a CPA! And there are a couple funny anecdotes included that made me giggle (included below). This was a solid mystery, it had me guessing pretty much right up to the end. I thought there was going to be more of a “reveal” so there was a small disappointment when the plot twist wasn’t quite as twisty as I’d expected. Overall though the whole plot was good and I thought it was well paced, I was interested throughout the book. I didn’t understand the vagueness on why her team was crying about Corbett, and it said they knew something she didn’t, but I can’t remember if we ever found out what that thing is. Also the ending was a little too vague for me. Was there something romantic going on between Nora and Logan? It was a little unclear to me and left it up a little to the reader but I wouldn’t liked it to be a little more definitive. Other than those couple things though it was a really good book and I really enjoyed it. Especially being an accountant myself (and being the dorky kind where I actually like accounting) it was exciting to see an accountant as the main character and topic of the story! And I didn’t even realize that the author is a CPA herself, how fun. I would definitely recommend!!

Thank you Atria for my gifted review copy in exchange for an honest review.

After really enjoying Mejia's first two novels, I admit that this one sounded very different. I'm game for it & I'm intrigued by the martial arts subplot. I love a scam & money story, but this one just didn't grip me the way I thought it would. That could very well be due to my reading fewer thrillers. No matter, I will look forward to Mindy's next book!

Thank you for the opportunity to be an early reader.

Mindy Mejia is known for her unique plots and complex characters. My favorite book of hers is still the first one I read, Everything You Want Me to Be, but Strike Me Down was not bad at all. I requested the book based on the author, not the description and when I got approved I was like ehhh this doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but because I love her I'm going to give it a shot. Well, I'm very glad I did that. Mejia has proven to excel in the quality of the writing. She manages to make the investigation interesting and compelling as it is full of twists and turns. The descriptions are carefully written and the plot is perfectly planned out. Each revealing piece was a surprise. I liked that the story was different and grabbed by attention. The twists and turns were amazing. The ending was spectacular! A real page-turner!

DNF @22%
2020; Atria/Emily Bestler Books

I went into this audiobook right after finishing another audiobook, and was already having a tough tie with Strike Me Down. I did not tag it as "currently reading" as I wasn't even sure I was going to make it past the 10% mark. But I really should track all of my reading just to see what worked and didn't work for mr. I have been wanting to read Mejia since I saw her cover of Everything You Want Me to Be, and seen it on so many lists. Mejia's writing is well done, and I still want to read her other books. It was the genre of finance and technology suspense that just did not grab me. I stopped at 22% as I did not want to force myself to read this one only to not try another one of the author's books. Take a look at other reviews that may give you a better idea of what this book is like if this is your genre.

From the word go, this book pulled me into it. It grabs you with a right hook, and ends with a punch to the gut. (See what I did there). The book moves swiftly, keeping you guessing to how things will end, and who has the pure intentions. This is a must read thriller, so do yourself a favor and experience it. It was like an elaborate game of cat and mouse, who did it, and suspense in the best way possible. The characters and their motives are revealed a little at a time, giving you more clues as you progress, but not too much to reveal the outcome before it’s time. The best part of the book is never knowing who is telling the truth and who is covering for whom.

I have liked Mejia's other titles but, boy, this one was quite a let down. The plot was absurd, the characters were completely unsympathetic and the dialogue felt contrived. Very disappointing.

20 million dollars missing....

What did I like? This is a certifiable who done it... Nora Trier is an accountant that handles white collar crime...criminals that hide money. The stage is set and the crime already committed as the analyst tries to solve the case. Motive...means...money as the corporation Strike lead by Gregg Abbott has a massive payday coming up but the money has disappeared.

Would I buy or recommend? The author doesn’t disappoint as the stage is set. Nora has an open marriage and she knows Gregg from a one night stand. Does that add to the cause or take away. So many clues but only one ending and it is amazing. A stunning read.

Thoughts for the author? Brilliant... this is my second book by this author and no less brilliant than the five star first. I’m officially a fan! Thanks so much to Netgalley and your publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion. It was fabulous!

Page-turning and enjoyable mystery/thriller with brains as well as action. Main character Nora is a forensic accountant whose company is hired to trace the missing money of a huge kickboxing gym franchise right before their giant tournament. Her perspective alternates with Greg, one of the married co-owners of the company. Lots of twists and turns and a good read that hooked me right from the start. I loved Mindy Mejia’s first book, “Everything You Want Me to Be,” but was kind of meh on her second, so I’m happy to say she was back in top form with this one.

Domestic drama meets financial thriller in the latest from Mejia. I love the concept of this. That fitness guru you're fascinated with and look up to. The unconventional familial relationships. The large prize money missing. Embezzlement. Conspiracy theories. Gimme all of it!

Mejia brings us two very strong female characters in Nora and Logan. Both fierce, independent and extremely good at their jobs. Personally, I miss my kickboxing days so reading this got me a bit amped up and so ready to get back to the gym already! And this is where I felt a bit of a bond with these ladies. There was some underlying tension that just seemed weird at first with a bit of hero worship tendencies. However, I did enjoy how this led to seeing the softer side of some of these characters.

Now, in spite of that, it's hard to really get that feel for Logan and Gregg - these characters come across one way, but it's more told to you rather than shown so they fell a bit flat for me. Too many coincidences in how every one ties in together? I dunno. I did enjoy the entire concept being this story line. I wasn't particularly surprised towards the end. However, I did enjoy the ride to get there.

"Strike Me Down" had me excited and a little nervous from the beginning. The lead character Nora is a CPA, like me, and this immediately drew my attention. Let's face it, the accounting profession doesn't get my time in fiction. The martial arts aspect of the story had me a little nervous though because I'm not a particular fan. I was very curious to see how this story was going to develop, but Mindy Mejia hadn't let me down before so I quickly dove in. This turned out to be a great story. The criminal is not immediately obvious and my suspicions changed several times before I was able to narrow down my suspect pool. Once again, the character's in this book are complicated, with motives that are sometimes obvious and other times completely unexpected. I liked the way that each of the players in this story had a different background that influenced their behavior.

This story takes place in Minneapolis, mostly in the downtown area and I really like the way that the overhead covered walkways became such an integral part of the action. A foot chase in the winding corridors of downtown is definitely intriguing. I have come to really enjoy Mindy Mejia's books as this is the 3rd one I've read now. I always find the stories to be complex, unexpected and mysterious. I appreciate the way she develops her characters and uses the landscape as a tool to enrich the story. So pick up this book, and spend a little time the Twin Cities.

I have so much respect for authors that don't just tell the same story, and write the same thing in a new city. Mindy Mejia's latest, Strike Me Down, is a very different read than her previous books. I usually get through her novels in one or two sittings, because when I am in the story I am hooked. Strike Me Down is a corporate thriller, which was a very different style from preferred thriller. A famous company in trouble, a complicated marriage (or two), and a looming deadline for when the central problem has to be solved-or else. I can appreciate that this book is not my type of thing, and still have a lot of respect for how it panned out.
