Dr. Gupta is someone I find to be very factual and science based, which I personally appreciate. I've always found the brain the most fascinating part of living being. I don't have the greatest memory so I knew that this would be a great book for me to read to see if it would help me learn how to exercise my brain to help retain information. Personally I found that it helped me a lot with all the steps and all the background information on how our brain functions.

Dr. Gupta does an incredible job in providing information about current developments in the neurological sciences. I was concerned i might have a hard time understanding medical jargon or science information, however, it's well written and easy to read.

This is a great book for anyone interested in brain functions and memory loss.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster for my digital galley.

KEEP SHARP by Sanjay Gupta is subtitled "Build a Better Brain at Any Age." Gupta, a neurosurgeon and chief medical correspondent for CNN, offers a "popular" take on dietary and exercise habits we should all be evaluating. Encouraging readers to act preventatively, he outlines a brain-friendly twelve-week program. While many suggestions (physical activity, getting more sleep, meditation, staying hydrated, eating well, social interaction and lifelong learning) are not novel concepts, Gupta presents this important and helpful information in an accessible manner. Gupta writes, "I am more convinced than ever that the brain can be constructively changed, enhanced, and fine-tuned." He divides the text into three main sections; first, he relates basic facts, describes misleading myths, and explains inner workings (the "why") related to our brains. The next section takes a more in-depth look at specific steps and the final section explores diagnoses, treatments, and caregiving for brain diseases. Gupta flatly states that "cognitive decline is not inevitable." Instead, he points to conclusions reached by his peers and argues that "in order to best take care of your body, you have to first take care of your mind."

If only I worked on my abs with the same intention I do on my brain!! Sign, maybe one day! This book Keep Sharp is like a personal trainer for your brain with the 12 week program to keep your brain sharp. He also weaves in our culture today which includes video games and of course diet. What I appreciate is none of it is overwhelming. Caregivers take note- Sanjay Supta is an encourager for those who have an SO in cognitive decline and how you can take care of your own abilities. This is one for the Keeper Shelf.

If you are interested in the functioning of the brain; if you are interested and how to keep the brain healthy; then this is the book for you. Additionally, if you are interested in Alzheimer’s development, treatment and all that goes along with Alzheimer’s, then this book will interest you. In a nutshell, if you have never read anything about this topic then this is a great book. I gave this book 3 stars because I already knew much about the topic. Thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Really appreciated the advice and information in this book. Sharing it with my kids and family! The key takeaway - among many! - is to move! And drink your water!

Great book. Tons of thought provoking material for ways to keep sharp. I struggled with some of the medical jargon but thought overall it was a necessary read for someone aging and having multiple memory issues because of autoimmune disease.

Sanjay Gupta does an incredible job in relaying information about current developments in the realm of neurological research as well as explaining ways to combat memory loss at large. He untangles hard science while connecting it to our daily habits and beyond. Having read Chasing Life: New Discoveries in the Search for Immortality to Help You Age Less Today and Cheating Death: The Doctors and Medical Miracles that Are Saving Lives Against All Odds, Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age is likewise a book of the ages, and Gupta's portrayal of modern medicine to laymen keeps getting better and better.

Can't wait to see what else Dr. Gupta has in store for the future.

I learned so much from reading this book! I never knew that fat around the midsection can lead to dementia. Along with interesting facts such as that, the author gave tips on things that anyone can do to keep their brain healthy, such as drinking water, vitamins, and other things such as brain exercises. I will definitely be recommending this to friends.

Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age by Sanjay Gupta
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Genre: Health, Mind & Body
Release Date: January 5, 2021

Keep Sharp by Sanjay Gupta is an exceptional resource for someone interested in understanding brain decline and keeping your brain sharp at any age.

The writing is easy to understand and is written in a familiar tone. There is a quick quiz that helps you gauge your own personal risk of brain decline. I found the questions to be very interesting and my personal results were shocking to me.

The book is broken in to three parts. The first part is an introduction to the brain and how it works. Dr. Gupta also debunks 12 myths. The second part is about what you can do now to help your brain, such as movement, continued learning, sleep, and what you eat. There is also a 12 week program to implement included in this part. The third part is about diagnosing and treatment, as well as how to navigate the path forward.

I found this book to be fascinating and I look forward to really diving deeper into this book, as well as implementing the 12 week plan. If you worried at all about brain decline, you should definitely read this book. I'm looking forward to feeling sharper!

I'm so grateful to Sanjay Gupta, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I love Dr. Sanjay Gupta for his intelligent science-based medical commentary on CNN, so I was excited to see if his writing was as interesting as his commentary. I was not disappointed! This book is not only informative about Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other well-known illnesses of the brain, but also provides tools for sharpening your brain at any age. (Youngsters, listen up! Every time I lose my car keys I wish I’d started working on this sooner.)

I really enjoyed the straightforward and sometimes tough news that your memory and brain function rely as much on hard work and exercise as does the rest of your body. There is a plethora of modern and interesting information on neuroplasticity (or, the brain’s ability to change itself), the relationship of exercise and physical activity to brain health, and whether or not things like Sudoku and Lumosity can really make you smarter. (Spoiler alert: not really.)

The information delivered here is science-based, but not so intricate as to be inaccessible, which is quite a trick when you are dealing with something as complex as the human brain. Dr. Gupta’s voice is as friendly, compassionate and helpful as he is on TV. An enjoyable and informative read no matter what your level of knowledge about neuroplasticity and the brain.

4.5 stars. Many thanks to Dr. Gupta, NetGalley, and Simon & Schuster for this ARC.

Written as only Sanjay can, a book that goes into the inner workings of the brain and dementia. It’s worth reading for this part alone but for those not familiar with basic health practices you may find value in the SHARP system and the how-to related to brain health and longevity. If you’re familiar with basic healthy living concepts you’ll find this part familiar but worth the reminder. A great read for the curious, science-minded but don’t expect a revolutionary health protocol.

I have really enjoyed this book by Sanjay Gupta, Keep Sharp. The book was filled with alot of information about how the brain works, what helps and hurts the brain.
He goes alot into discussing memory loss and dementia as well as alzheimers, that disease we all fear. However he gives us hope as we can change our lifestyle and possibly avoid all this or push it back
In his book he will give specific things to do to make your brain healthier.
I found this very informative and want all my loved ones to read it.

We love him on CNN and we can love him in print as well. Gupta, as one might expect, explains things well and comprehensively. This is very readable but can also serve as reference material.

I was excited to read this book because Dr. Sanjay Gupta can explain things clearly. Unfortunately I didn't learn too much that was new to me. I read a lot of books and articles on health. I know that exercising and eating a healthy diet is important for maintaining fitness of both body and brain and have done so throughout my life.

A thorough book about dementia and Alzheimer's that goes through what science thinks is occurring that creates the diseases and some of the current experiments they are trying to fix the problem.
However, the main point of the book is to live today to do what you can to help your brain stop or slow down the disease by Exercising, Eating better, Sleeping better and Reducing stress which will help a great deal with the progression of the disease.
There's also a chapter about some coping methods for those who have the disease or who are taking care of someone who has and what one needs to do to plan ahead both financial and emotional; and finally the book has a section dedicated to organizations that can help.
As a person interested in the subject this book is easy to understand and follow and will be a great help with those who are gathering information about the disease

I want to thank Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for an advance copy
