This is not a new idea relating food to depression. But this is not a be-all and catch-all. This book leaves no room for other issues such as thyroid disorders that can cause depression.
This does give good guidance for eating and meditation so it succeeds in this effort and gets three stars. But it lost two stars because the author subscribed to his mentor's beliefs that natural is better than made without understanding the safety issues of natural products. They also do not understand the definition of chemical. This shows ignorance of the science the author professes.

This was a very interesting short read. I suffer from major depression disorder, anxiety, Insomnia, rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia, endometriosis and migraines. I'm very interested in trying the methods that Dr. Altshuler developed and wrote about in his book..I'll be sure to update after I try them. I am vegan and have been almost 5 years so I'm curious how I'll feel after the 0 carbs for 24 hours and just eating low glysemic vegetables during that time.

A clear and non nonsense look at happiness. It’s a book I will keep coming back to as a refresher when things are down.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy of 24 hour Rule of Happiness: Million Dollar Smile that I read and reviewed.
This book had a few good ideas to reboot your lifestyle but I felt it was more of a diet book then anything. It spent most of the time talking about how changing your diet will change your mood. Overall, it had some interesting theories and it was very short and easy to understand. If I was the kind of person who could give up bread I would try the ideas in the book but I could not go without that food group.
This book gets four out of five stars from me.

This short but sweet read was definitely informative and food for thought.

I loved the viewpoint of the connection between the mind and body and how you can enhance your day to day life to feel better.

A must read for anyone needing that nudge towards a better wellbeing.

Thank you Books Go Social and NetGalley.

24 hour Rule of Happiness by Dr Leonid Altshuler MD.
This was a short to the point book. I did find that it had some helpful things that I learned from this book. This is something that you will have to practice and keep doing to get into practice which is with anything when you are trying to change for the better.

I received a complimentary copy of 24 hour Rule of Happiness from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was a quick read. Some of the suggested activities to improve happiness will take longer than reading the book. I will try all of the suggestions, because most of them make complete sense (...however the last one sounds kind of wacky). I believe this author spent some time in a very "zen" country learning relaxation techniques and paths to happiness. This set of techniques may be the most simple. They may work for everyone. Not sure. The book was well researched and written by a doctor, so who knows? I may check back to this review after trying all of them... I will just have to find extra time for the extensive one!

This started off good, but went in an unexpected direction.
The author shares advice on carbohydrate elimination and keeping a diary.

We all want happiness don’t we? And we all seek happiness in other things and other people instead of trying to find it within ourselves. The premise of this book therefore intrigued me - I want to find ways to be happy within myself instead of relying on others.

The title of the book therefore appealed to me. It’s a short book, written in an easy to read style. If the client stories were left out, it would be significantly shorter. For me, client stories are not why I read a book like this. It’s helpful to have one or two to demonstrate the benefits of the system but I did feel there were too many.

Turning to the system itself, I understand what the author says about smiling. I am also one of those who find it difficult to sit still and just be, not to immediately find something to do because it feels wrong to sit. So the premise of the book generally rang true with me.

Now clearly, figuring out whether this book works takes time. But I have tried out some of the exercises within it. It’s not an instant answer but i did feel more relaxed after trying the relaxation exercise. And I intend to practice these exercises on a regular basis to maintain and extend that feeling.

I have to admit that I struggle with the idea of no carbs - purely because I have had it drilled into me that you need to eat fruit and vegetables for the vitamins and minerals. For me, low GI vegetables have to be part of the diet. But i see the benefit of reducing carb intake - because I know when I eat high carbs, I crave more carbs. Im just not persuaded about no carbs at all.

Overall, it’s a short, easy read with some good ideas.
