This book was hard to read because it didn’t feel like a cohesive story. It read more like a series of disjointed scenes written by a disconnected an uninterested narrator. Characters were mentioned with no explanation of who they are and how they connect to each other and you have to figure it out based on context that may not come until pages later. I kept searching back in the book thinking I’d missed something because people were mentioned like I should just know who they were and it just made me confused. It was hard to care about anyone because I didn’t know anything about them. About halfway through, it either got better or I got used to it, but it was so hard to force myself to keep going until that point.

The premise itself is interesting and at first I kept reading more to find out about what happened to Victoria than any interest in the living characters but at the end I just didn’t feel satisfied with anything. Nothing felt resolved and the ending was just abrupt. Subplots were started and random characters were introduced and I kept waiting for them to come back around just so there was a point in mentioning it in the first place and it just didn’t happen. I loved the town but the book just left me frustrated.

This book reminds us that while it might be fun to read these stories, it couldn't have been very fun to live in the actual time (which is why I can not stand time travel stories that strand women in the past, where are the stories that bring a lady from that time and strand her in the present and watch her blossom with all the freedoms and opportunity she could have).

It was an engrossing and entertaining read, well written and with a well crafted plot.
I liked the plot, the well thought cast of characters, the paranormal element, and the setting.
I will surely read other books by this author.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

A wonderful old hotel in a small town. And, oh yeah, one resident ghost. My kind if book! I enjoyed this quite a LOT
