This book was a page turner and before long I had completed it. A very well written book, showing both the consequences of parents actions on pushing their children to achieve a certain level of success and the effect it has on children having to deal with theses expectations. Would highly recommend this book.

I loved this book, but it is hard to say why. It's the story of four siblings growing up with a taskmaster of a father who was demanding and abusive. The father is very strategic in how he is bringing up his kids to have success in the world, but it takes a heavy toll on the kids, especially the second oldest who is narrating the story. But yet... they ARE tough and they DO make it through despite the cruelty they are exposed to each day. Call it tough love or anything else. It should come with a warning that says "Do not try this at home" but despite all of that you find yourself wanting to hang out with this family and be part of their gang.

I can not recommend this book enough; absolutely fantastic. The characters are so real that you feel like you know them, that everyone has at sometime known them.
