The premise for this book was right up my street and as a romantic suspense it wasn't a real disppointment, however a lot of Gage's behaviour did disturb me.
It was disturbing how he treated her following her traumatic attack and the 'instalove' was a little hard to believe.
The writing was good and I liked Nikki though and I loved the relationship between all of the brothers.

Must admit the beginning of this one made me hesitate a bit to continue. An attempted rape and murder is not easy to read. Nikki is chased through the forest, and ends up crossing into Gage's family place, which also houses his brothers and the security company they own. Glad I did stick with the story, as it does improve. Would recommend and look forward to the next in the series of 4 hunky brothers.

I really did not like this book. The male lead was so out of touch with how his love interest felt after her ordeal, that I could understand their relationship.

Could not in anyway possible get into this book. It was bad from the get. The hero is trash, honestly. So creepy and just HORRIBLE. Definitely not something I will continue with and definitely getting rid of this book on my kindle. It was so so bad.

Listen. I love romantic suspense. Even enjoy a dark romance from time to time. Love an overbearing alpha-male, a brother's security firm, all that jazz. In theory, this should have ticked all of my boxes.

No. This was all just a lot of big yikes on even bigger bikes. Oooof. Read the content warnings given by other reviewers because I feel like it needs to be said one more time...YIKES.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

Wow! This was an awesome story! Niki Avery gets assaulted. She’s trying to find herself out of the woods and ends up on the Steele brothers property. The brothers protect those who are needing help in any way and of course jump in to help Niki. The ending of who did it surprised me. This story was well written. Drama, romance, suspense. Love the story and the characters. I can’t wait to read more!

Cabin 1 the first book in the Steel
Shadows Security series. It is a fast paced, action packed story riddled with suspense and intrigue that will grab you right at the beginning and keep you hanging on the edge of your seat throughout.
Niki is in trouble and that trouble brings her right to the Steele brothers, but it is Gage Steele who immediately feels a pull towards her and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
This story is a puzzle with a lot of moving parts and even though Gage and Niki make it through her drama there is still a serious thread of danger that threatens the Steele family and will continue on into the next book in the series.

I thought this book was OK, I didn’t much care for Gage, I just couldn’t relate to him and I found him very unlikable, however I really like Nikki. Even tho I didn’t care much for this book, I will continue to look at other books written by this author.

Fast paced excitement. Niki is determined to survive her attack. Gage and his brothers are still mourning the loss of their father the best way they know how. They are all hot alpha males who will protect those around them. This is an adrenaline filled story as they protect Niki and solve her case while Gage finally gets brought to his knees by a woman.

I have never read this author before and to be completely honest I have mixed feelings about this book. The attack was a much for me and how everything after comes to be. As this is fictional the insta love connection is fine but I doubt that it would actually happen. I like reading more realistic stories. Other then that I really liked the book it was as easy read and I would read more from her to see where they all end up.

Gage is a drink every night, one night stand, have no cares kind of guy. He drinks and gets into bar fights then goes home with a new girl every day.
Niki is an attorney who keeps to herself and takes care of her body.
Niki is attacked one night and ends up at Gage's home where he and his brothers run a security company. Something about Niki grabs Gage and pulls him in. He keeps her at his compound while they research who could want her dead. That makes it too hard for them to stay apart.

I really couldn’t get into this book. I really didn’t like Gage from the beginning interactions with Niki. DNF.

This book kept me well and truly on my toes and had plenty of twists and turns. I didn’t see the one at the end coming at all!
This was an easy read, which was just what I needed at the time. But the ending!!! I need book 2 and I need it NOW!
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

A great intense romantic suspense story of intrigue, espionage, murder, spying and protection. Of course a deep love is wrapped up in the adventure too. Making this a great rollercoaster of a read.

With a happy ever after ending in this romantic escapade.

Darker, grittier, steamier - just 3 of the words used to compare this book to the series it sprang from. Now, I like dark, I like gritty, and I like steamy. This was not that. Considering what these guys do for a living, I would expect at least some respect for the opposite sex, but Gage is a complete jerk. Oh, a complete jerk who supposedly falls instantly in love with the heroine. Instalove can be okay in a short story, but this one had the space to at least give some semblance of a building relationship. Quick love is one thing, but this was way beyond quick. Then, we have this super secret compound in the middle of nowhere. It's so hidden that people just seem to find it. I suppose people needed to find it in order to further the plot, such as it is, but if that's needed, maybe don't make it so clear that it's hidden away. All things considered, this one just didn't work for me. Other than the relationship between the brothers, I didn't care for anything about this book, and this isn't a series I'm interested in exploring any further.

This one is intense, full of action love story. Great story that leaves you on your toes and you want to find what is true and whatnot, who is the perpetrator. Both Gage and Niki are great and easy to love. I love Niki and her badass attitude and her will to live and fight back. I loved how their story builds and becomes stronger.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

Hero's disgusting thoughts about the female lead turned what could have been a 5-star book into a 1 star for me. This was a hard no for me. , next... I voluntarily read this book via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This post is going to take a look at Cabin 1 written by Amanda McKinney. It is the first book in a 3 book spin-off series (Steele Shadows Security) to McKinney's Berry Springs series. It was originally published in September 2019, and the Kindle edition came out December 2019. I received an eARC copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Cabin 1 introduces the reader to Niki Avery, a local, young prosecutor who is attacked while driving home from a yoga retreat. Two men run her Jeep off the road and attempt to sexually assault her, but in self-defense Niki is able to fight back, and kills one of her attackers. While the other one runs to his truck to grab a gun to kill Niki, she is able to escape and a chase through the dense woods of Berry Springs.

Niki runs and runs until she can't anymore, but what she doesn't realize, is that she's run onto the Steele family's property. The family of 4 former marine brothers head out onto the mountain in search of whatever, or whoever set off the security alarm.

Gage Steele finds her. Although at the beginning of the night he had only wanted to drink whiskey all night, and find a woman to take his mind off the fact that it is the one year anniversary of his father's death, he also wants to treat this woman right. He helps her get cleaned up, and becomes overwhelmingly protective of her.

Niki is assigned to Cabin 1, and Gage is assigned to be her security detail until they can end the threat to her life. Through their time together they become increasingly attracted to each other, and they build an intense relationship with lots of steamy scenes.

I really enjoyed this action packed romance novel and I will definitely be taking up the rest of this spin-off series, as well as keeping an eye out for the Berry Springs series by McKinney. I hope you'll pick up a copy yourself!

Happy reading :)

This is a fast-paced story that I liked, but I will say I had a hard time with the lack of compassion/empathy from the male characters (not just the main male character) towards Niki's regarding her assault, especially since they owned a personal protection/security agency. I liked Niki and her strength, but the speed that the two main characters fell in love was unrealistic.. I'm more intrigued by the story-line and will read more to find out where it go.
