Olivia Harper is doing…okay. After moving to Seattle a few years ago, she’s now settled into a job and a grown-up relationship. She’s also really begun perfecting her skills as a social media marketing wizard and is slowly picking up clients. For the most part, life is good. But when things get rocky with her fiance and then her mother gets in a serious accident just a few days later, Olivia decides to head back home to Cape Sanctuary to help her mother recover, to reconnect with her childhood best friend, and maybe to try to patch up her relationship with her orphaned niece, 15-year old Caitlin, who is all attitude and then some these days.

What she doesn’t expect is to run into her best friend’s brother, Cooper, who has, in the years since Olivia left, moved back home to be the town’s (very attractive) fire chief. What starts out as a begrudgingly-accepted and obligatory family check-in somehow turns into a healing and transformative experience so intense that it makes Olivia question what’s most important to her—and why she ever left home in the first place.

MY THOUGHTS
Welly golly, I sure did love The Sea Glass Cottage. It has all the warm fuzzies of a modern romance, but with an extra layer of smartness and thoughtfulness that brought these characters to life. I didn’t connect with Olivia at first, but as I got to know her backstory, I understood why she acted the way she did. I sympathized with her and her insecurities, and before long I was rooting for her completely. Her mother, Juliet, gets a lot of face time in this book, too, and she’s so lovable. Watching her try to navigate her recovery…all while fighting romantic feelings for a man she believes to be off limits to her is so endearing. She brings a lot of warmth to the story.

The only character I didn’t love was snotty little Caitlin. Ironically, she and I share a very similar birth story, so I really expected to identify with her. But I just couldn’t get past her unwillingness to communicate except through sarcasm and a near constant stream of insulting barbs slung at her family. I think the main lesson for me there is that I’m clearly not ready for my kids to become teenagers…

Still, I so enjoyed the book. Really fabulous characters, story development, and atmosphere, and I loved the ending. It was everything I wanted it to be. Such a perfect distraction in these crazy times.

I loved the characters in this novel! It was a feel good, heartwarming read. The book was well written and easy to read. The setting was a character all in itself--I felt like I had traveled there or was living there with the characters because the author wrote it so well. A great read!

Olivia Harper is still dealing with the effects of a witnessed trauma, when she returns home to
Cape Sanctuary, California, to help her mother. Cooper Vance has recently returned to his hometown to

She takes over running the garden center that has been in the family for generations. Olivia tries to keep her feelings for Cooper in check but every time she see’s him the come back full force. Cooper at first didn’t recognize Olivia and when he realizes who she is the guilt comes to the forefront about the past. He knows that he can never tell her the truth because she won’t like him anymore. They can’t stop thinking about each other and keep coming into contact since his sister is her best friend. A birthday party for the best friend bring them together and has Cooper saving a life. Olivia confides in Cooper about the trauma that has been affecting her. She feels safe around Cooper. They kiss and she pulls away because she isn’t going to be staying in town for long and his job as the Fire Chief and paramedic brings back memories of her father’s death. Between helping her mom, working her Harper Media business and the work for the safe job doesn’t leave Olivia much time for anything else. She takes on the town as a client to help them promote the upcoming Fire Station Pancake Breakfast to help the former chief. Olivia also realizes that she needs to go and talk to Cooper about her feelings. Olivia decides her future. A year later and a new family has been formed but with some challenges and good times and love all the way around.

RaeAnne Thayne begins her new Cape Sanctuary series with The Sea Glass Cottage. She shows the reader a small-town life in northern California where the characters are strong, independent women who must come to terms with their future and the past and their feelings for the men in their lives. I was a little disappointed in how much pain there was in everyone’s past, it was a little overwhelming. As always Ms. Thayne writing is emotional, riveting, and keeps you hoping all turns out well. I look forward to hopefully reading the story of Cooper’s sister and maybe his new EMT.

In RaeAnne Thayne's The Sea Glass Cottage, this beautiful contemporary romance will have you moving to tears by the end of the novel. For Olivia Harper, she always loved living in Cape Sanctuary California as a young child. But after two devastating tragedies in her family, she moved away to Oregon to start a new life. But when her mother fell off a ladder and broke her lip, she rushed home when tensions ran high between her niece and her mother. As she helped her mother out in the greenhouse and ran her social media company from home, she never knew why her niece Caitlin hated her and why her mother was distant in the past. But as she bonded with her best friend, Melody, she ran into her late sister's best friend and her childhood crush, Cooper Vance, who also her best friend's brother. Olivia also dealt with fear and panic attacks from an incident in a coffeehouse in Oregon. For Cooper Vance, he's the newest fire chief and a war veteran, who's been consumed by guilt on the night of the fire that claimed Olivia's father so many years ago. But he had feelings for Olivia for the longest time. For Juliet, she dealt with raising Caitlin after Natalie died and has MS, but she had feelings for her neighbor, her late best friend's husband, and didn't want to be anyone's burden. And Caitlin also wanted to find out who's her father and wanted to be there for Juliet and to also patch the differences with her aunt Olivia. All of them dealt with finding out the truths of the past and the crossroads that led them to find happiness there in Cape Sanctuary with a wonderful tear-jerking ending.

Such a great story of loss and hurt feelings.
Olivia was called back home because her mom,Juliet, had fallen off a ladder and needed help at home. Also Juliet owns a garden store and needed Olivia to step in and help out with that. Little did she know that her teenage crush,Cooper, would be there as well. Juliet was also raising her teenage granddaughter, Caitlin, who is also brooding after finding out a few things.
Juliet is in love with her best friend Henry, who had been married to her best friend. Her best friend had died several years prior. Henry and Juiiet had gotten close but fighting their feelings. Also Juliet is older and also hiding another secret,
Olivia just wants her mom to get better so she can move back home and to her job in Seattle but she is also hiding something that happened to her a few weeks ago. Cooper and Olivia also grow closer together.
Caitlin is also trying to find out who her father is.
There was so much going on that I just kept yelling that all 3 women needed to sit down and talk and get everything out in the open,
I received this from NetGalley for review.

Told via three different points of view across three generations, this story about family secrets and the bonds that tie people together was engrossing and entertaining. The three women, Olivia, Juliet, and Caitlin, were each fully realized and not just generational caricatures. I also liked how the author drew parallels between the generations. This was the first time I have read this author, and I look forward to more. For a full review, please visit my blog at Fireflies and Free Kicks. Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for a digital ARC of this book.

One of the best things about this book is the characters. They are relatable and down to earth and though they are all good people, they each carry their own baggage with them. The story was really about all three woman coming together to deal with their pasts and face the future. In addition to fabulous characters I adored the setting! The small town really jumped off the page and I found myself longing to visit there in real life! If you are looking for a really sweet story then definitely check this one out!

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

When Olivia Harper learns her estranged mother’s been in an accident, she packs up her life and heads home to the beautiful Cape Sanctuary on the Northern California coast. While she claims it will only be for a few months, painful memories come flooding back: her older sister’s spiral into addiction, her mother’s enabling, and the overdose that left her niece an orphan. As Olivia balances her own needs with those of her injured mother and resentful teenage niece, it’s clear all three Harper women have been keeping heartbreaking secrets from one another. But as those secrets come to light, they will see that it’s never too late to heal family wounds.

When I received this book to read, I knew that this was going to be a tear-jerker and a feel-good book, all at the same time. The main character, Olivia, is recovering from an incident and the author is careful to share the intimate parts of her spiral decline. Juliet, Olivia's mom, has a secret, too, and as all moms tend to do, she doesn't want to share it with Olivia because of the burden it will place on her. The author is crafty in the way she weaves the mother-daughter relationship throughout the book. It becomes apparent to the reader that this needs to be resolved, and the author obliges, and just in time.

We follow the lives of several minor characters as well. Their stories enrich the main characters and offer explanations as to why certain feelings and expectations occur. This book is easy to lose yourself in, something I require in a recommendation. It's about family, romance, heartbreak, it has it all! Perfect for cuddling on the couch or taking to the beach!

Full of heart, THE SEA GLASS COTTAGE (on sale March 17, 2020, Hardcover, HQN Books, 978-1-335-05587-4), is an emotional story of homecoming that brings hope and healing to three generations of women.

The author, RaeAnn Thayen, answered a few questions about her writing. Enjoy learning more about this beautiful writer.

Which character do you most relate to in the story and why?
I love all of them but probably am most drawn to Juliet, who yearns for those she loves to be happy. That’s a universal mom need, I think. Also, she hesitates to lean on others even when she really needs the help because she doesn’t want to be a burden and feels as if her role is to caretake those she loves instead of the other way around. I can definitely relate to this one!

Do you have a place you go to in order to clear your head like Olivia did?
I don’t live by the ocean, unfortunately, but I do live in the mountains of Utah. Ten minutes from my home, I can be in a gorgeous wilderness area where I can walk and think and meditate. We are heading into the most beautiful time of year here, where the mountains turn green with new growth and wildflowers begin to pop out. I can’t wait!

Is this based on a real place?
Cape Sanctuary is kind of an amalgamation of some of my favorite spots along the Pacific coast, a mix of Carmel, California and Cannon Beach, Oregon. It’s loosely based near Trinidad, California. I only wish it really existed!

What theme or message do you hope readers will take away from your book?
Like all my books, the core story is that we’re all here to learn how to take care of each other. All my books have the underlying theme that our lives become better and more fulfilling when we reach out to help and lift someone else. The world can sometimes feel ugly and angry. I feel like there’s an increasing need for us all to focus on trying a little harder to be kind. Life is filled with pain and trials but it can also be beautiful and joyful at the same time.

What does the future hold in store for you? Any new books/projects on the horizon?
Yes! Always ☺ The last book in my Haven Point series, SUMMER AT LAKE HAVEN, comes out June 23. This is Samantha Fremont’s book, for those who have read others in the series. It also includes a surprise novella. Next up will be a standalone Christmas book in an all-new community, Silver Bells, Colorado. CHRISTMAS AT HOLIDAY HOUSE will be out in late September. And I recently spent three days at a California beach house with writer friends plotting my next hardcover and can’t wait to start writing it! THE PATH TO SUNSHINE COVE (tentative title!) will also be set in Cape Sanctuary and will be out April 2021.

Where is your favorite place to write?
I am the luckiest of writers because I have my own office. Several years ago, we made the impulsive decision to buy the house adjacent to ours. It was rundown and unsightly and kind of blighted the view from our backyard. Our plan was to fix it up to increase our own property value and then rent it out but after the renovation, I loved it too much to rent it out so I took it over. I have loved it! With a special needs son who has multiple disabilities and requires total care, life at my house is at times chaotic and messy but I always have such a sense of peace and calm when I go to my office. And I love that I can walk through the backyard in my jammies to go to work.

What inspired you to become a writer?
I have been a voracious reader all my life and have loved romance novels since I used to steal them out of my mom’s room when I was still a preadolescent! I always used to tell stories to my friends, usually involving our latest celebrity crushes. I didn’t know I was destined to become a writer at the time but when I look back, I see all the things that set me on the path. I actually wanted to be an actress and was very involved in drama in high school, including performing in a repertory theater company, but my mom persuaded me to take a journalism class in my junior year and I fell in love with telling stories. Even as I went into journalism through college and my subsequent career as a reporter and editor, I dreamed of writing a romance novel. I never imagined someday I could say I’ve written sixty-something of them!

An emotional, uplifting and relatable tale from one of the genre’s finest writers, The Sea Glass Cottage is the latest dramatic, poignant and immensely enjoyable novel by perennial favorite RaeAnne Thayne.

Olivia Harper has always thought of herself as a strong and courageous woman until an accident left her badly shaken and almost unable to function. Liv is struggling and lonely and desperately needs to recharge her batteries and regroup. When she receives a phone call from her best friend Melody that her mother Juliet is in the hospital after falling off a ladder, Liv realizes that she needs to be by her mother’s side – even if their relationship has always been fractious. Since Liv left for the city and her mother had stayed in Cape Sanctuary on the Northern California coast, the two of them had grown even more distant yet despite the awkwardness between her and Juliet, Liv is not about to leave her mother to recuperate in hospital with only her teenage niece Caitlin for company, so she heads back home to take care of her. Coming face to face with the past she left behind will prove difficult and challenging for Liv, but might it also provide her with a future she has long thought denied to her?

Juliet cannot believe she had been so silly as to fall off a ladder at her age! After the death of her husband, the garden center where Juliet works has become her entire life and now it looks like she is going to be out of action for weeks! Juliet is a woman who has long prided herself on being practical and competent and the thought of having to rely on the kindness of others is not something that sits comfortably with her yet with no other choice available to her, it looks like Juliet needs to swallow her pride and let others help her for a while – especially her daughter Liv who has returned to Cape Sanctuary after years away. Although Juliet loves her daughter, theirs has never been the easiest or most harmonious of relationships, but having been thrust into close proximity by fate, will they find a way to vanquish lingering ghosts from the past? Or will old secrets continue to drive a wedge between the two of them?

Liv knew that coming home was never going to be a walk in the park, but having to cope with caring for her mother and looking after the garden center business, she also finds herself butting heads with her difficult niece as well. Can the three Harper women find it in their hearts to forgive each other’s past transgressions and move forward into a bright and united future? Or will they always be held hostage by the past?

RaeAnne Thayne is on top form with The Sea Glass Cottage. A heart-warming and compelling tale about healing, second chances and coming home written with flair, sensitivity and élan, The Sea Glass Cottage is a spellbinding tale that will bring a tear to readers’ eyes and make them smile as they find themselves completely and utterly enchanted by this wonderful novel.

As always, RaeAnne Thayne’s characters jump off the pages and she creates women who are brilliantly drawn, wonderfully nuanced and so real they will feel like close friends by the end of the book.

A writer who hits it out of the park time and time again, RaeAnne Thayne’s The Sea Glass Cottage is a terrific novel readers will not easily forget.

A beautiful Northern California setting. A cottage by the sea. A small town that stands together. A lingering sadness of the past waiting to be resolved. A family of strong women, each working through her own challenges and all eventually supporting one another. A couple of sweet romances for good measure. The Sea Glass Cottage by Reanne Thayne a feel good story perfect for a cozy afternoon.

I am so excited to be part of the Harlequin Blog Tour for The Sea Glass Cottage by RaeAnne Thayne. I’m a recent convert to Thayne’s books and I’m discovering how wonderful each and every one of them is.

First let me say that this cover is stunning! The inviting feel that it evokes is exactly how I felt about the book. In fact, I loved the cover so much that I’m in the process of landscaping my back walkway to look just like this one! 🙂

If you are a fan of Thayne, then you will be familiar with some of the characters and certainly the community of Cape Sanctuary. Here we find Olivia, a serious and successful programmer who moved away from Cape Sanctuary years before. Her past there holds tragedy and painful memories but when her mother is hospitalized, she drops everything and rushes home to care for her mother. Here Olivia will encounter her past, reunite with her best friend and cope with her some-what obnoxious niece, the daughter of her sister whose life and death were tragic. Throughout the book we discover secrets held by Olivia, her mother, niece and even her sister. The Sea Glass Cottage is a book about healing, understanding, and forgiveness, as well as recognizing the strengths each of us hold within ourselves. The book, the story and the characters are beautifully written, engaging and entrancing from beginning to its satisfying conclusion. It is a story you will not want to miss. Yes, it is part of a series but, as someone who hasn’t read the rest of this series, I can assure you that it works very well as a stand-alone.

This was my first RaeAnne Thayne novel but definitely not my last!

This book was all female, mostly all of the time. There were many female characters, Liv, her niece and her mother, with whom she has a stressed relationship with. Sometimes, I would think this would be too much drama going on, but I think RaeAnne Thayne did a phenomenal job with the writing to keep the reader interested.

Like I said, there was a lot going on. If this was separated by character and chapters, it would've for sure been way too confusing. However, it was just an overall story about these characters and it was like watching a soap opera in my head. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. It was as they say, "like a train crash, you want to look away, but you can't."

There are a lot of emotions in this book. It's crushing and heartwarming all in the same book. RaeAnne Thayne did a wonderful job making sure all of the characters were heard in the same way. I didn't feel as though I knew more about one character than I did another. Also, the story is a lot about overcoming obstacles whether they are physical or mental. I really enjoyed that aspect of this novel.

Lastly, RaeAnne Thayne did a great job with the talk of drug abuse in this novel. This is a really sensitive topic with the society we are in. As someone who has lost individuals to this epidemic, I felt as though RaeAnne Thayne handled this with care. She really did make this feel as though we were looking at this story through Caitlin's eyes. Losing someone to this is soul-crushing and I really felt that with Liv's niece.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Sea Glass Cottage. There was a lot going on, but I think it was really good. I will for sure be giving RaeAnne Thayne another read!

I deeply enjoy a multi-generational story exploring the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters, nieces and aunts, best friends estranged and otherwise, and 'The Sea Glass Cottage' has no shortage of that dynamic. The best thing about this read was how rich and complicated the relationships between Olivia, Juliet, Caitlin, and Melody are; there are layers and layers of decades of relationship to unpack and the romantic lead, Cooper, is a complicated character as well. How constant the misconceptions of each other is is also quite entertaining and realistic.
That being said, 'The Sea Glass Cottage' is slow building and steeped in tragedy; and while everything is resolved neatly in the end, and there is way, way more to the story than sex and romance (which is a refreshing change of pace) it is worth noting that you have to be patient while the story unfolds. It is definitely worth it.

Olivia Harper had worked sixteen-hour days in Seattle and dropped it all as soon as she heard that her mother was injured. They had been estranged for years, and the relationship with her niece has become strained as well. All three generations have secrets they've been keeping from each other, and all three have friends that might be more than that.

The Sea Glass Cottage starts out slowly, from Olivia's POV and as she finds out about Juliet's injury. The Amazon summary at the time I write this review states it's from a car accident, but the text of the novel actually has it as a fall from a ladder while hanging up a pot of plants at her garden center. She is fiercely independent and doesn't want to worry others or accept help. Olivia is juggling her own fear as well as picking up at the garden center, dealing with conflicted feelings toward her family members and then for the fire chief, who is her best friend's brother. For her part, Caitlin had been well cared for with her grandmother but didn't know who her biological father would be.

We vary between multiple points of view, and the story unfolds so that we know what each of them are feeling and why they behave the way that they do. It's a vantage point we don't have in real life, and their emotional motivations are very real. Fear drives people to do all kinds of things, including pushing people away with the mistaken idea that it's for the other's good, as well as lying and avoidance. That's also balanced by the good that they do for each other and for others in the community that they care about. It all works out in the end very neatly, so that they are able to discuss their feelings and fears, then discover a happily ever after kind of ending for themselves.

Ms Thyne can surely write a book that will keep you hooked till the last page, root for the characters and smile or move.
This story is no exception and I loved every moment.
I loved the female characters, they're all so strong and frail at same time, realistic and well thought.
I liked how the story is told by different POV and how the past wounds can be healed by love, communication and growing a healthy relationship.
It's a story about family, friendship, healing and how important communication is.
The setting is lovely and the vivid description made me wish I was there.
It was an excellent read, engrossing and entertaining, heartwarming and poignant.
I strongly recommend it.
Many thanks to HQN and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I've adored reading the Haven Point series by RaeAnne Thayne over the past several years; I get so excited when I see a new installment announced. I thought it would be fun to branch out and explore other stories by her. THE SEA GLASS COTTAGE was the perfect way for me to do so! I didn't realize the setting of Sanctuary Bay was used in her other novels as well - I would totally have read those first. Either way, this works nicely as a standalone novel.

The story centers around Juliet, her daughter Olivia, and her granddaughter Caitlin. There's also a POV from Cooper, a childhood friend of Caitlin's late mother. The three women are trying to live in the same house as Juliet recovers from surgery. Olivia comes down to help her mother and work at the family's garden center in the interim. Caitlin is fifteen and has lived with Juliet since her mother's passing when she was a kid. The relationships are strained between the three women for various reasons, primarily based in past issues. I enjoyed all of the characters reconnecting and the town had a few great side characters, like Henry, Melody, and Jake.

I have to say that most of the characters had some pretty sad backstories, which was challenging and sometimes a bit of a downer to read. I say this primarily because of the current virus situation in our country and this book wasn't as light and fluffy as my brain may have wanted. However, none of those elements were bad! It was just a little bit of gloominess. A lot of the relationships between the characters got very tangled and I wish there was a bit less of that, but oh well. I was satisfied with how the story ended and the relationship growth between the three women.

Overall, it was really nice to try a new book from Thayne! I plan to read more of her backlist and maybe - finally - work on the Hope's Crossing series too!

Olivia daughter of Juliet, is called home when Juliet falls and breaks a hip. They have already known hard challenging times as Olivia's dad was killed in the line of duty in a fire. Her sister Natalie died of an overdose. When Juliet had so much to deal with Olivia took back stage and so there is a sticky mother-daughter relationship. Plus Olivia with some good reason has fears that are holding her back on making new choices around her work.

Juliet has parented Natalie's daughter Caitlin, continued on with a very successful garden center and has another secret she isn't letting on about to her daughter and grand daughter. Her neighbor Henry is a great friend and there might be something more there but Juliet is not going to allow it if at all possible.

Caitlin has found her mother's and Olivia's diaries and read them avidly because she wants to find out who her father could be.  Since reading the diaries she has been surly with Olivia because Olivia expressed some strong feelings as twelve or thirteen year old might.

Connor has returned to town as fire chief because his sister Mel and her three boys need a bit of support after a no good husband and father abandoned them. He and Mel have always been connected to the Harper family growing up and Mel is Olivia's best friend.

So... there is plenty of things going on and the stories of each carry the plot along in a seamless way. And eventually everyone finds what they seek and new paths are chosen. I enjoyed the story and once everyone really communicated, difficulties were resolved.

A warm satisfying read with flawed but very well intentioned and loving characters who all deserved their positive ways forward.

Title: The Sea Glass Cottage
Author: RaeAnne Thayne
Genre: Romance
Rating: 4 out of 5

The life Olivia Harper always dreamed of isn’t so dreamy these days. The 16-hour work days are unfulfilling and so are things with her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when she hears that her estranged mother, Juliet, has been seriously injured in a car accident, Liv has no choice but to pack up her life and head home to beautiful Cape Sanctuary on the Northern California coast.

It’s just for a few months—that’s what Liv keeps telling herself. But the closer she gets to Cape Sanctuary, the painful memories start flooding back: Natalie, her vibrant, passionate older sister who downward-spiraled into addiction. The fights with her mother who enabled her sister at every turn. The overdose that took Natalie, leaving her now-teenaged daughter, Caitlin, an orphan.

As Liv tries to balance her own needs with those of her injured mother and an obstinate, resentful fifteen-year-old, it becomes clear that all three Harper women have been keeping heartbreaking secrets from one another. And as those secrets are revealed, Liv, Juliet, and Caitlin will see that it’s never too late—or too early—to heal family wounds and find forgiveness.

I don’t read much in the romance genre—it’s not that I’m against it, I just burned myself out on years ago—but RaeAnne Thayne is one author I’ll definitely pick up without question (along with Nora Roberts sometimes and Debbie Macomber always). And I’m certainly glad I picked this up.The Sea Glass Cottage takes us back to Cape Sanctuary—this is a small town I’d love to visit—with Liv, who moved away years ago to start a life in the city. But city life isn’t all she thought it would be, with her anxiety almost overpowering her. When she heads back home to take care of her life, everything comes back to her.

Liv’s struggles with the past—the death of her father, memories of her addict sister, her lonely childhood—are relatable and well-drawn, making it easy to put myself into her shoes. I loved how all three women’s struggles are woven together—and how they find their way through. I definitely recommend reading this!

New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne finds inspiration in the beautiful northern Utah mountains where she lives with her family. Her books have won numerous honors, including six RITA Award nominations from Romance Writers of America and Career Achievement and Romance Pioneer awards from RT Book Reviews.
