Excellent book! The author spins an entirely believable tale. Conservation wardens investigating the poaching (hunting out of season) of a number of bear and deer find themselves neck-deep in a conspiracy of drug dealing and the sale of bear gallbladders (used by the Chinese for medical purposes). With a surprise ending!
The story takes place in Eastern Washington, an area I know well from my own hunting and fishing adventures. The author absolutely nails the descriptions of the area, and of the locals.
Before my Federal law enforcement career, I worked with the Wisconsin conservation wardens while I was in college. The descriptions of their techniques and dedication was spot on. And the rivalry between the Federal agencies and the state/local agencies is truthfully related.
There really isn't much the author could have added, the book was simply great as it is. I hope that he has more books like this in his future.
Highly recommend!

An interesting introduction into the US Forestry Service and some of the issues that they face.

The plot is well thought out and develops smoothly, building up the main characters without diluting the action/adventure elements.

Very enjoyable, with enough at the end to look forward to more books in the future.
