I really enjoyed this book! It's hard to surprise me with twists in thrillers since I've read so many. I know who to distrust, I know it's never the first suspect, I know it might be someone not even known through most of the book. But Amber Garza did a great job of writing in a way that captures the readers attention, makes you not want to put it down until you're finished, and second guess everything you think might be happening! I would highly recommend it, it's a fabulous psychological thriller!!

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

This book is overly dramatic and has several eye roll moments. It can be confusing at times because of the two characters with the exact same name. Just wasn’t for me!

I couldn’t put this book down!!! Finished in two days because I really needed to see what was going to happen. The characters weren’t the most likable, but the story was captivating and kept me wanting more. Loved it!

I read this in one day. Almost 3 years after I got the eARC from NetGalley. Let’s not talk about that please. I regret it immensely.

While I love thrillers, I have to be in the mood for them in order for me to really enjoy them.
This book was so good. I’ll admit I almost quit on it. In the beginning it really felt like a copy of You but I got over it eventually.

I can’t really review thrillers without giving much away but I’ll say this had me hooked from the very start. One of the twists I didn’t see coming. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend.

Sigh where to start...the ending is predictable (I read a spoiler review just to see if I was right, lol), and I am starting to get anxious from "crazy woman" syndrome in domestic suspense. I found it a bit too out of the realm for the "twist" and it felt more like coming up with a solution for the sake of a solution. I wasn't in love with Where I Left Her (which I did finish) so I think I am done with this author.

***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***

Wow. What truly terrible people everyone in this book was! The main character and her story were actually very sad. It was one of those books that made you say, well, I guess my life could be worse! It was a fast read, I'd say 3.5-4 stars.

The writing here was better than I expected although in places the book read more like an experiment in creative writing than a novel. The plot was fun and only a bit predictable, and the author made implausible character decisions into a game with a good ending, and I did enjoy it.

You meets Fatal Attraction in this up-all-night psychological thriller about a lonely empty-nester's growing obsession with a young mother who shares her name.

It all begins on an ordinary fall morning, when Kelly Medina gets a call from her son's pediatrician to confirm her upcoming "well-baby" appointment. It's a cruel mistake; her son left for college a year ago, and Kelly has never felt so alone. The receptionist quickly apologizes: there's another mother in town named Kelly Medina, and she must have gotten their numbers switched.

But Kelly can't stop thinking about the woman who shares her name. Lives in her same town. Has a son she can still hold, and her whole life ahead of her. She can't help looking for her: at the grocery store, at the gym, on social media. When Kelly just happens to bump into the single mother outside that pediatrician's office, it's simple curiosity getting the better of her.

Their unlikely friendship brings Kelly a renewed sense of purpose, taking care of this young woman and her adorable baby boy. But that friendship quickly turns to obsession, and when one Kelly disappears, well, the other one may know why.

Kelly Medina is feeling the effects of becoming an empty nester — her son has gone off to college, and her husband, a professor, is always away at work. So when she learns there’s another Kelly Medina in town, with a baby, her interest is piqued. But quickly that interest becomes an obsession.

While this book had remnants of You, it didn’t pack the same punch… in the beginning. I honestly kept thinking I’d quit this novel for the first 30%. It just felt too quick and over the top. But — it’s worth sticking out. The rest of the book is fast-paced and twisted!

I have a soft spot for a “steal your life” domestic thriller and while this one was fun, and there was 1 big twist I didn’t see coming, the other twists and turns were pretty predictable for me. I think it would be a good book for people who are new to the thriller genre or who like the non-reliable character troupe.

When I Was You does an excellent job of hooking the reader right from the beginning. A raw, emotional story that's equal parts dark and twisty. Really, the perfect combination for an unputdownable thriller. If you enjoy surprising twists, defined characters, and a fast-paced plot, this one is for you.

"When I Was You" by Amber Garza follows Kelly Medina - actually there are two Kelly Medina's - what are the odds? Part 1 was just okay - then part 2 - took me by surprise. and the very ending was great. Its hard to write a review without giving anything away but I enjoyed this one - my second book by this author and so far my favorite of hers.

This was an odd one but I plowed through it in a single night. A mother gets a wrong phone call and is obsessed with the woman who shares her name. It was strange but very compelling.

Kelly Medina’s son left for college a year ago and since then she has felt isolated and alone. Then, one day, she gets a call from her son’s former pediatrician’s office that is meant for another mother who has the same name as Kelly. Without really knowing why, Kelly is fascinated by the fact that there is another person in her small town with the same name and she decides to learn more about her. This curiosity turns into an obsession, as Kelly becomes more involved with this younger woman and her baby.

When I Was You is a twisty domestic thriller. The writing is well-done and the plot has some good elements. It was hard to like any of the characters and part of that was probably due to the fact that much of the time it was difficult to tell the good guys from the bad. As a result, I didn’t feel too invested in the story but, nevertheless, it was still a good read with a somewhat unexpected ending.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

I could not get into this book, but I think it is a great read for readers that like Ruth Ware and cozy spy novels. Our library wanted to put this book on our shelves because it is a new title and voice in this genre.

WHEN I WAS YOU had me on the edge of my seat...well at least gripping my e-reader as I greedily read this delicious thriller. Garza brings it with this novel. The twists are only made so much better by the characters' development.

When I was you, a psychological thriller, had me right away. The title refers to a chance meeting between two women, sharing the same name at different stages of their life with one almost mirroring the other in motherhood. Surely it’s just a coincidence? Yet the circumstances are problematic and become dangerous for both. Three quarters of the way through, where I thought we were going, we suddenly didn’t and it was truly shocking. Had to keep feverishly reading til the sudden and satisfying ending.
