Not your typical Amish romance book. While most are about a young woman finding her way, this was also about a young man finding his way after his parents were killed and he had to raise his 3 younger siblings. We read about his challenges just as much as we read about hers.

The added family and community pressure was interesting this book. I loved the realness of the children and the bond they had with the teacher.

What a wonderful story! I was cheering on the main character, Eva, as she left her overbearing brother’s household to become a teacher and begin a new life of her own. Willis had my sympathy, too. He’s a young man who suddenly finds himself raising his orphaned brothers and little sister following the tragic death of their parents. But Willis had a secret that he felt he had to hide from Eva, and that secret kept their relationship status as close friends instead of sweethearts.

But the character that held my heart in this book was Maddie, the little first grader that was always accompanied by her “invisible friend”, Bubble. Maddie and Bubble made me smile many times throughout the story, and I loved seeing life from Maddie’s point of view. Maddie’s determined that Eva should be her new mother, and her efforts to bring this about makes this a sweet, heart-touching story.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This book was an absolute delight! Ava and Willis have a wonderful connection right from the start with their lighthearted banter and charming character. 7 year old Maddie’s personality and witty comments always made me laugh out loud and her make-believe friend Bubble gave Maddie an outlet for the grief of losing her parents and having to leave her home to live with her older brother. Bubble also serves as a much needed friend to keep Maddie company when her two older brothers aren’t at home to play with her. I really liked the dyslexia theme of the book because I learned new methods for helping re-train the brain as well as ways to teach a student without making them feel the shame that goes hand in hand with struggling to hide such a secret. This is a heartwarming and uplifting Amish story filled with family values and a sweet romance that I recommend to readers of all ages. I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

THE AMISH TEACHER’S DILEMMA is the third book in the NORTH COUNTRY AMISH series. I haven’t read the first two books but look forward to reading them. Ms. Davids is a new-to-me author, and I’ll be back to sample more of her books if this is her caliber of writing.

I love reading Amish romances since they are clean, inspirational, and give us a flavor of the Amish culture. Eva has just been hired on as the teacher for the new Amish school that was built in New Covenant, Maine in a fairly new community. She has been hired on a month-to-month basis for the first year, and she’s hoping she can stay. She’s been given her own house along with furnishings and other household items which she is very excited about. She’s making friends and delving into lesson plans and her student’s records before the school year begins.

Her neighbor, Willis the blacksmith, is raising his three orphaned siblings who have recently come to live with him. The children are an integral part of the story, showing Willis as a loving brother. Many other characters from their church also help flesh out this wonderful community.

There is an attraction between Willis and Eva but neither want to act on it since neither is interested in marriage and want to remain friends. They take one step forward and two back in their friendship throughout the book. There are secrets to be learned and family dynamics to overcome, especially in Eva’s family (that she left behind in Illinois.) I liked that her brother came for an unexpected visit and added another layer to the story.

There is a lot of romance in THE AMISH TEACHER’S DILEMMA, which surprises both Willis and Eva since neither believe love is on their horizon. His siblings help bring them together since Eva’s always volunteering to care for them and seems to understand their feelings of loss more than Willis does. A touching romance and well worth the read.

The Amish Teacher's Dilemma by Ms. Patricia Davids is the third book in her North Country Amish series but can easily be read as a standalone. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel although I have not read the first two books.

Eva Coblentz is instantly likeable, she's excited to teach in a newly formed school in Maine and I can't say I blamed her for wanting to move into her own home and to make a new life for herself at the age of 30.
Willis Gingrich is her neighbor, a blacksmith who is raising his younger siblings and boy does he have his hands full with his blacksmith business, keeping up with the children, cooking and all of the household chores.
The children in the story add quite a bit of humor, especially Maddie an adorable 6 year old with an imaginary friend that kept me smiling every time she/they made an appearance.

I was upset by Eva's brother asking her to come home to, to give up her job, her friends and the community she had grown to love. She has some difficult decisions to make but through prayer and faith she is able to find peace in her choice and be where she was always meant to be.

Overall, I thought this novel was very well written with characters that came to life before my eyes which made me think like I saw what they saw and I almost hear their conversations. This novel is one that I highly recommend and can be read by readers of all ages.
My thanks to the publisher for an e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I’ll be honest, I know very little about the real lives of today’s Amish people but I absolutely LOVE reading these romances. There’s something so sweet and true about them – the community unit they create, the way they support each other, and the honest way they face life. They have their troubles too and with The Amish Teacher’s Dilemma they can’t escape some very modern issues.

I really enjoyed Willis as a character – he’s strong (in mind and body), responsible, and truly loves his siblings. But he’s been hiding a secret and it’s definitely affected the way that he interacts with others. It’s not one that is easy to admit to and it has impacted how he sees himself & what future he can have. I admire that it doesn’t stop him from being a good man and stepping up to create a family for his orphaned brothers & sister.

Eva’s role in the community and her family is very different than one I can imagine. She’s only allowed certain responsibilities and they have been dictated for so long by her older brother. This is the first time she’s had a chance to do something that she wants and I admire her for it. Moving somewhere new, doing something new, isn’t easy but she takes it on with gusto … but for how long?

These two together are a great match and I enjoyed their banter as they get to know one another, learn how to support each other, and begin to have deepening feelings. Their lives may not be something that I’ve experienced but their troubles, and how they handle them, are all too real and understandable. Davids does an awesome job of bringing them to life on the page.

“The Amish Teacher’s Dilemma” focuses on new locations, lifestyles, and loves. Willis struggles to support his three younger siblings, as well as maintaining his blacksmith business. Eva excitedly begins her job as a new teacher in an Amish school. These neighbors support each other with friendship and hope, as their relationship rapidly moves towards romance. However, Willis hides his learning disability from Eva, which almost ends their new love before it begins. Throw in disapproving elders, adorable kids, a very smart dog, and a loving community, and you have the makings of a finely tuned romance novel set in an Amish community in Maine.

The characters were described well, with just enough detail, allowing readers to form their own mental pictures of the individuals. The plot moves along quickly to maintain reader interest and engagement with the story line. Readers who enjoy a clean story without violence or strong language will find this to be an entrancingly sweet novel.

I received this novel from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Title: The Amish Teacher’s Dilemma
Author: Patricia Davids
Genre: Inspirational fiction, romance
Rating: 4 out of 5

Taking a schoolteacher position in another district is just the change Amish spinster Eva Coblentz needs. And with her new neighbor, blacksmith Willis Gingrich, struggling to raise his three orphaned siblings, Eva is determined to help them heal. But when her relatives insist she come home, Eva must choose between the life she left…and the one she’s growing to love.

I haven’t read the first two novels in The North Country Amish series, and that wasn’t a problem at all. I liked Eva from the first paragraph and admired her strength and determination to make a life for herself. Willis’s little sister, Maddie, and her imaginary friend, Bubble, were wonderful, and I enjoyed every scene the little girl was in. She definitely has a way of saying things that should not be said! I felt very sorry for Willis, who has struggled with dyslexia his whole life—and never knew it—and only realizes there’s hope for him when his youngest brother faces the same struggle. This is a lovely, feel-good read that’s both inspiring and uplifting.

Patricia Davids is a bestselling author. The Amish Teacher’s Dilemma, the third novel in her The North Country Amish series, is now available.

3.5 Stars. I used to enjoy Amish romance and am just checking it out again for the first time in years. This was a very enjoyable, simple story about new-to-town teacher, Eva, and the town blacksmith, Willis, who’s struggling to cope as a single parent to his younger siblings when they are orphaned. I really enjoyed this friendship-based romance and it’s message of love and acceptance and how pride can keep us away from the vulnerability that opens opportunities for us to be helped and supported. This is a really easy, breezy, fast-based, gentle and uplifting read and I really liked it. The only negative I can think of is that it is a little lacking in complexity of plot, but it’s cute and inspiring and really enjoyable to read. If you like book that are about faith but without it sermons, or books featuring a hapless single father (figure) and cute, precocious kids, this will be the book for you. It reminds me of everything I loved about Amish romance.

So, The Amish Teacher's Dilemma is a first for me. I hadn't read an Amish romance until this one. Yeah, I know, but to be honest, I really don't know that much about the Amish, and I wasn't sure how well I'd like the Amish romances. Well, I can't speak for other books in the genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The story is witty and often funny, the characters are engaging, and the romance is sweet and so easy to root for. The angst is pretty low overall, so even though the story touches on a serious topic, the story is relatively lighthearted throughout. I also like how Patricia Davids speaks of faith and belief in God without being preachy. The book is well-written and fast-paced, and while this may be a first for me, I met enough of the North Country Amish to definitely want more.

The Amish Teacher's Dilemma is a quick, sweet and clean Amish romance that takes place in Maine. Eva has taken a position as the new community teacher. The school just happens to be across the street from Willis who is suddenly raising his three younger siblings. As I said, this is a really sweet story about two people who don't feel good enough, but find strength and worthiness in each other. Willis and Eva were so cute together. I loved that they built a friendship first. My heart broke for Willis because of the secret he lived with for so long. Eva was just what he needed.

One of the things I enjoyed about the book beside the romance was the Amish community setting. I felt like the author really captured their way of life and the sense of community. I love how they all pulled together to help those in need among their community. I also loved the secondary characters. Maddie was so fun with her imaginary friend "Bubble". I'm not sure of this is a part of a series, but I would love to visit with this community again. Maybe Danny will get a story?

Amish spinster Eva Coblentz has lived with her older brother and his wife since her parents died. She took care of her grandparents and was taken for granted by her brother and his family. When her grandparents pass, she takes the opportunity to leave and make a life for herself. Applying and being hired for a teaching position in a relatively new Amish Community in Maine, Eva is ready to start her new and independent life. Shortly after moving to New Covenant, she meets Willis Gingrich, the local Amish blacksmith who also lives across the street from the school. Willis has recently become the guardian to his three half-siblings upon the death of their parents. Will Eva be able to start a new life in New Covenant?

I really enjoyed this story. Being a retired teacher, I enjoyed Eva's growth as a teacher. Learning about dyslexia and how to help children learn is a very commonplace issue and added a great storyline as well. The characters were well-developed and very likeable. Willis' siblings were a fantastic addition to this story, especially Maddie and her make-believe friend Bubble, who got the blame for any of Maddie's outrageous comments or actions. Both Eva and Willis were entering new phases of their lives with new challenges and the story of their facing them was well-written and developed. Yes, there was an aspect of instalove, but it was done in such a touching and beautiful way. There are a few conflicts and issues that the characters have to overcome and I enjoyed reading about their journey. The secondary characters play an important role in this story as well and add much to the story. This is a Harlequin Love Inspired Story and it fits the bill nicely. Even though this is Amish Fiction and a Christian Based story, there is no preachiness to it at all. It is a beautiful, clean, family romance, that just happens to take place in an Amish Community with Amish Culture and Customs. If you enjoy a clean, beautiful romance, then this book is for you.

I loved this book. I really enjoyed how Eva figured out that Otto had a learning disability. I enjoyed the interaction Willis had with his siblings. I suspect Danny's book is next and I am really looking forward to it.

I highly recommend this book.

Thank you netgalley and harlequin for allowing me to read this title for an honest review.

Sweet characters and a very wholesome story line; my first foray into an Amish-centric love story so the Pennsylvania Dutch sprinkled in was a bit distracting.

Eva and Willis were very good characters even if this wasn't my cup of tea.

This is a great example of the Love Inspired series, a heartwarming story filled with faith and hope with a profound trust that their way will be guided by God. Having said that, the religious element isn't pushed, just an integral part of the lives of the Amish and fundamental to their thinking, making this a really delightful read.

Eva Coblentz's parents had passed away whilst she was a teenager. She was raised by her older brother and his wife, spending much of her time caring for her grandparents until they also passed away. When she sees an ad for an Amish teacher for the newly constructed New Covenant Amish school, Eva sees this as a challenge and applies for the position,  even though it involves moving away from her siblings. She is given the job and moves into this supportive community and soon meets Willis Gingrich, the town’s blacksmith, who lives across from the school. He has recently brought his step-siblings to live with them after their parents died in an accident. There are three of them - Harley 13, Otto, 11, and sister Maddie, who is seven and has an imaginary friend who gets blamed for all sorts! Everything is new to them all and each has their own way of coping.

This is a story of facing the challenges life puts before you, overcoming obstacles, helping each other and finding true love. It is a delightful, family orientated romance with great characters, each having their own dilemmas and problems. When Eva's oldest brother wants her to give up her new job and return home, there are more decisions to be made, secrets to be revealed, diagnoses to be made, help to be given and love to be found. I really enjoyed reading this story and hope there will be future stories in this series involving Eva's brother and someone else who has recently moved into this community.

I have no hesitation in highly recommending this story to anyone who is looking for an engaging, heartwarming romance with community, family and love at the heart of it. I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Wonderful story!
I really liked the main characters in this book. Eva and her determination to start out on her own, to be the best teacher she can be and to be a helper in her new community. Willis and his love for his siblings, his hard work and struggle with his disability.
Willis's siblings were wonderful, especially Maddie & Bubbles. There was humour, a secret, and lessons learned in this book. I thoroughly enjoy reading about Amish life.

An Amish Teacher Faces a Test of Her Independence

Eva Coglentz is thirty. Since fifteen when her parents died, she’s lived with her older brother and taken care of her grandparents. Now she wants to have her own life. She’s taken a job in Maine as a teacher in a new Amish school well away from her brother in Ohio. She has no experience teaching, but she loves books and children and hopes she’ll succeed.

Almost immediately, she meets Willie, the village blacksmith. He has taken on the responsibility for his three step-siblings now that their parents are dead. Eva immediately loves the children, particularly Maddie and her imaginary friend Bubbles. She also begins to have tender feelings for Willie. Willie reciprocates her feelings, but has an embarrassing secret that keeps him from believing he’s worthy of her.

Then Eva’s older brother sends for her to come home and care for his wife’s mother. She desperately wants to stay in Maine and live her own life, but the pull of family is strong.

This is a lovely story. Eva is clearly meant to be a teacher. She understands children and wants to do the best for them. I was rooting for her to stand up to her brother and continue to make her own life. Willie is equally, a sympathetic character. He wants to do the best for his siblings, but it isn’t easy for a man alone.

The background is well done and there is a good deal of information about dyslexia, a problem that interferes with a child’s ability to read. If you enjoy a love story with wonderful, caring people, this is a good choice.

I received this book from Harlequin for this review.

This is a sweet book to get lost in. I loved that this young woman is finally able to have a life of her own, now at 30 she has changed states, moving from Ohio to Maine, and going to earn a living, becoming a teacher.
The author also gives us a man whose parents have passed away and has taken on the responsibility of his younger siblings, all the while holding on to a secret that has kept him single and afraid.
Now, things are about to change even before they start, and you wonder about how much power a brother has over his sister.
When this book was finished, and I wanted more pages, I could see this story continuing seemed like there was more, especially since there are some new people in the community?

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.

Eva Coblentz is excited to become a teacher in a newly formed Amish school. The community in northern Maine is relatively new and until now, the children have been attending an English school. As Eva is getting settled, she soon meets one of her neighbors, Willis Gingrich, a blacksmith. She discovers that Willis is raising his three younger siblings. Their parents were killed in an accident and now Willis is their guardian. All three children will be Eva's students.

It doesn't take long for Eva to fall in love with Willis's siblings, especially his little sister. She also takes well to the challenge of teaching for the very first time. However, her brother come to visit and shares a missive with her: she is instructed to return home to care for an ailing in-law.

Will Eva leave the family she is so drawn to or will she manage to stay where she is? It doesn't take long for Eva to feel very drawn to Willis and his family. However, there is something that Willis is hiding - not just to Eva, but to his siblings as well. I don't want to mention exactly what that is because it is most likely a spoiler. But I wanted to touch on it because it is a very serious issue for an Amish fiction. I applaud Patricia Davids to bring this into this sweet romance.

I have read and loved all three books in the North Country Amish series. The Amish Teacher's Dilemma is a remarkable story and is one that I would love to reread. Ms. Davids writes each story so well, and I must admit that I cried more than once while reading all three stories, but was always left with a warm happy feeling as each book drew to a close.

Many thanks to Harlequin and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
