This was a really cute holiday read that, well, I read after the holiday. Smaller town Fire Chief and Detective who start off on the wrong foot but find their way. It was a nice and easy read with a little angst. Not a bad way to start off the year.

It was a short and sweet holiday romance sort of thing. Maybe the conclusion is a bit too rushed, given how the story progressed, and how short it was. But other than that, I enjoyed it.

Detective David Gallagher has always keep the the two sides of his life separate his personal life and his work life but when the collide with the help of Firefighter Travis Sommer he's at a loss.
He gives advice for the New Year but will he take it himself.
A really good read.

perfect kiss is a new year's romance where detective david gallagher finally confronts his unresolved feelings for arson investigator travis sommer.

it all started when travis inadvertently outed david. it was not malicious at all, merely a case of bad timing and unfortunate circumstances. when david decides to go out and enjoy new year's eve, he runs into travis, and slowly comes out of his shell and allows the attraction he'd felt at their first meeting to grow.

and over the next couple of days they take their relationship to the next level, and it's a sweet story.

This was such a surprise read! I wasn't expecting it. I found myself in love with the character and the story--it seemed like I was living it because of how well the author wrote. I will be on the look-out for this author for years to come.

A short story set over the New Year holiday. I would have preferred to have read a more in depth and longer story, with the author showing us how the two characters met, rather than telling us with an info dump at the beginning. The story also had so much more to tell after they got together, with family and work issues to be resolved.

Nonetheless it was a cute read which put a smile on my face.

Perfect Kiss by AG Meirs

Short but sweet this enemies to lovers short story sees Detective David Gallagher and fire inspector Travis Sommer making making peace after a rough start when they met a few months before. The New Year’s Eve event at a bar they both attend gets them talking and one thing leads to another. David hasn’t been ready to come out before but might be by the end of the story. This is a predictable romance between two men that has a feel good ending. This story was not long enough to really get to know the two main characters but it was an easy way to spend a bit of time today.

Did I like the story? It was okay
Would I read more by this author? I think so

Thank you to NetGalley an dRiptide Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

3-4 Stars

This was a super cute and sweet story between two stubborn guys who finally let their guard down in New year eve. This was written from one person pov but in second person which is sometimes a hard style for me since I like knowing both people's perspectives in first person but I still enjoyed it. Sometimes the jumpe between the past and present through me off a bit though. This was a bit of an enemies to lovers trope which I usually enjoy anyway and there was a lot of tension going on between these two which eventually lead to something else. Travis was in the closet and David wasn't and I feel like the ending was a bit rushed because Travis went from saying no to being out for David to changing is mine 5 minutes later instead of him really have time to come to realization of how he really felt and not caring for what others thought. Anyways, it was a sweet with some steamy scenes and nice little hea.

I found this a little boring and had a hard time getting into it. Others might like it more. There wasn’t anything I hated just not that interesting of characters. Plus the flashbacks were weirdly placed.

It was an okay read! I like the police and fire fighter concept and their relationship was cute.

However, the "flashbacks" were a majority of the book. It was pretty frustrating to go back to the present and then jump right back into the past. I think this would be better excecuted if it started from the very beginning rather than using flashbacks and kept a linear storyline.

I really disliked that David, when having the flashbacks, was just "zoned out" and it was like "oh you're pretty zoned out today." That whole concept wasn't great.

However, I appreciate David's back story and the insight into his life. I feel it could be developed better but it was interesting to see his story as the "tough" guy of the police force and how homophobia impacted him though once again, I feel could be excecuted much better.

Their relationship was hate-love, which indeed, I love. So no complaints there! It was an alright book, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quick/sort of cheesy read.

Has a lot of potential, but too much got crammed in, and the tale was at warp speed.

The blurb made this sound like a potentially angst-laden tale, and at the start it was, so I expected a bit of a slow burn tale. But, things suddenly accelerated and the leads were at it and talking about a future - I had no issues with the latter, but with one out guy and one closeted one, there needed to be a lot more talking, especially with the homophobic hazing and denial at Travis's fire station.

The latter issue needed to have been discussed, as did David's falling out with his mother over him outing himself to her. There was an understandable reason for her reaction and I was hoping that after she got over the denial and her past, she'd realise that he was still the same son she loved and who supported and loved her, but we didn't get to see that.

The book read like a rushed synopsis of a longer tale, and didn't fulfil its potential, unfortunately, unlike book 1 in the series, which was a lovely first read from a new author.

I needed something light to kickstart my reading year for 2020. And, with my plan to try and read some of my LGBT novels on my TBR, I decided to read this perfectly-timed holiday novella.

The arsonist case Detective David Gallagher and fire inspector Travis Sommer is finally closed. You would think the two would be celebrating. Expect David is angry at Travis. Weeks ago, openly gay Travis accidentally outed David in a bar filled with their colleagues. Since then, whispers and gossip have followed David everywhere. And now his mother and sister has heard the gossip. While his sister is ok, his mother... not so much.

And with it being New Year's Eve, Davis need to let off some steam. But when he goes to a bar to relax and sees Travis, the one man who seems determined to cause havoc in David's life. But there's something about Travis... and David needs to decide how to ring in the new year: hold onto his anger or let it go...

This is a short, sweet m/m romance with a HEA/HFN [Happily ever after/happy for now - did I get these right?] that takes place over three days (New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and 2nd January) and it was ok. It was exactly what I needed for today: something light, not really taxing and fun.

I do understand some reviews I have read on here and NetGalley, saying that this could have, easily, been longer to give readers the slow burn from the fallout to New Year's Eve/Day, be a tad more fleshing out on characters and situations. I think this could have made a nice novel with a enemies to lovers slow burn of a novel, but due to the timeframe of the novella, you have to accept that yes, these characters have crushes on each other before we join them and the fast turn around is because of these crushes. And yet...

While this was a short, fun read, this could have been longer for my tastes.

This was a sweet holiday story, taking place over three days. It's an emotional three days for David as he's outed by Travis. It was a refreshing story as they air out their insecurities and choose happiness.

I received a copy of this from NetGallery in exchange for an honest review.

I rather enjoyed this short story.

The story centred around New Year celebrations and followed our two lead characters Gallagher and Sommer, the former a police officer and the latter a fireman. Unfortunately Sommer outs Gallagher to his work colleague and that spirals into his family life and Gallagher isn't quite able to forgive Sommer, even though they are forced to work with each other on this case for the next three months.

Handling the flashback to the outing was done well and I felt like that was a real scenario that would happen and watching Gallagher deal with his mother's reactions is compelling. I also really enjoyed the other flashbacks and character development.

I would have liked a more fleshed out story and gotten some time to see more of Amy (Gallagher's sister).

This was just ok for me. It reads very quickly and is a m/m romance. I like the cop/fireman angle but felt this could have been a lot deeper. Thank you to netgalley for the arc.

Detective David Gallagher is well-respected and admired for his dedication and approachability. However, he has a secret - he is gay. Unfortunately, that secret just got a public airing on a night out. Gallagher is horrified - his mum still doesn’t know - especially as the man who outed him is the firefighter assigned to his case, Travis Sommers.

A G Meiers tells her story over three days. It's a predictable one, but Meiers seems to revel in the cliche and confidently exploit each one for her narrative. Unfortunately, it's just too short for this to work and that ultimately affected the characterisation (Gallagher’s history and kinks) and reader’s engagement. The italic flashbacks become disjointed.

I cannot say I didn't enjoy this light read. I just felt I was reading the first draft or outline rather than a finished narrative.
