Adam Mitzner can write, there is no question about that. His novel, The Best Friend, starts out with a good courtroom drama where he gets the scene right and keeps the reader involved. Some authors might have stopped there, and perhaps this author should have. Everyone will probably have a different opinion. The author however continues the story now focusing on Anne, the wife of lawyer Clinton Broden. The courtroom scenes fade, but we learn a lot more of the characters. Death enters, taking away a character, and lo and behold we are back in the court room as our protagonist once again has to defend his friend on a murder charge. Can he win twice? Should he win? Mitzner parcels out the facts, showing flaws in both.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

This was my first book by Adam Mitzner and IT WILL NOT BE MY LAST!!!!!

From the beginning of the book, Mr. Mitzner had my attention, and I couldn't read fast enough to find out how the story ended.

The book centers around two legal cases involving the main character, Clinton Broden, and his childhood friend, Nick Zamora. The beginning of the book is told from Broden's perspective, but as the book continues we hear from Broden's wife as well as Nick. I thoroughly enjoyed the way that Mitzner employed these changes of perspective, and thought that it added a lot of nuance and interest to the overall story.

As the book proceeds, the reader gets further pieces of information as it relates to the legal aspects of the story, but also the personal relationships of the characters and their families. I don't want to go any further for fear of spoilers, but I will say that this book never lost my interest, and there were enough twists and turns to keep me turning the pages long into the night.

I am often hard on legal thrillers, however this book was absolutely enjoyable. I liked the characters, and found that I wanted to know more about them the further into their stories Mitzner went. The characters were balanced- far from perfect but not detestable. I found this to be a necessary element to make the story feel real, and to keep the reader engaged. I really wanted to know what happened to all of them!!!!

Overall I think the story had enough twists and turns to keep a reader surprised and intrigued. Even in parts where I thought I knew where the story was going, I found the experience thoroughly enjoyable, and genuinely looked forward to my reading time.

I think Adam Mitzner will be in the category of John Grisham and Michael Connelly for me- a must-read author with stories that I can't want to dive into.

I highly recommend this book, and will be immediately purchasing Mr. Mitzner's backlist so that I can keep enjoying his work. Well done!

A lawyer named Clint Broden has just received a call from his friend Nick Zamora who’s informed him that his new bride Carolyn McDermott had drowned in their bathtub 🛀🏼 . Nicky then hires Clint to represent him and he wins.

Several years later, Nicky’s new wife Samantha goes missing and once again Nicky reaches out to his old friend, Clint to represent him. However, some new evidence start to come to light making Clint question Nicky’s innocence.

Engaging courtroom scenes, interesting dialogues and an intricate plot. Would recommend If you love legal thrillers.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Very good book.
Provides backstory to one of his more compelling characters..
I like how he weaves together the present and the past...the actions from the past providing motivations for the present

It's very gratifying to read and enjoy an almost perfect book and I have just finished Adam Mitzner's latest novel.which fits the bill. The format is first person dialogue by each of the four protagonists involved in the story. These dialogues are not different interpretations of the same situations but descriptions of a separate part of the novel that complete a brilliant whole.
Clint Broden is a novice defense attorney in 1986 starting out trying to build a practice. His lifelong best friend Nick Zamora on his part is attempting to start off a career as an author with the normal problems of getting noticed and producing interesting literature that will sell. Both are married with wives
they seem compatible with. A sudden crisis develops when Nick's wife seemingly drowns in her bathtub. The feeling, especially by the police investigating the death is that how is it possible for someone to drown in what is really a shallow basin of water. Nick is eventually accused of murder, brought to trial with Clint acting as his defense attorney.
Adam Mitzner is actually a practicing attorney and his description of the trial and the back and forth actions of both the prosecution and the defense has the sensation of really being how it would play out. There is no brilliant flashes on the part of any of the participants but rather the gradual and logical proceeding to the end of the trial. Nick is found not guilty and the cause of his wife's death, if it is murder, is not discovered.
The novel than flashes forward 30 years at a point that Clint is now at the apex of his career with a great practice under his control and Nick a very successful author with several best sellers under his belt. A second crisis erupts at this point in the lives of the two men that results in an ending that is in every way perfect for the novel. That this is a novel that will keep the reader glued to the pages until the end goes without saying. And while the books I have read by Mr Mitzner are generally five stars, this one is that step beyond that is not found in many novels and demands that the reader keep a careful eye out for the author's succeeding work.

Thank you Thomas & Mercer for an ARC of this title! This review is my honest opinion and my own thoughts on the book.

I love Adam Mitzner's novels, and I was so excited to read this! Unlike the first 2 Broden Legal books, this one focuses on Ella's dad, Clint (and his best friend Nicky). When Nicky's young new bride drowns in their bathtub, Clint represents him in court but their friendship drifts apart. Decades later, when ANOTHER one of Nicky's wives dies under suspicious circumstances, their lives intersect again. Great mystery and intrigue, plus some courtroom drama. I really enjoyed reading it, and sped through the first 3/4. I feel like the end was a bit slower, but it wrapped up pretty nicely. Looking forward to more entries in this series.

The Best Friend by Adam Mitzner
Adam Mitzner is one of those writers whose works manage to keep me up well past my bedtime. Luckily I started this one early in the day and post knee surgery so I had a head start. I might actually get some sleep tonight.
The Best Friend is indeed about two best friends from childhood. One has become a lawyer and the other a writer trying to get published. Clint Broden is the lawyer who gets called by his childhood friend Nick Zamora. Nick is crying and says his new wife Carolyn has drowned in the bathtub. Clint rushes to his aid and agrees to take his case when Nick is arrested for murder. This follows on in what appears to be a straightforward lawyer/client procedural. However, this portion is only prologue to a tale of friendship/love/betrayal/ethics but not necessarily by the usual suspects. The rest of the story is just as engaging as the first part dealing the trial and the consequences. The story makes you sure you know what is happening and then makes you think of how you would handle certain situations if thrust upon you.
I will not give more details as it could possibly lead you to miss the chance to ponder certain issues as they are developing.
All Adam Mitzner’s works are truly the work of a masterful writer. Don’t miss any of his books.
I was provide an e-ARC by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review. I receive nothing except for the advance look at the book. I am appreciative for this opportunity.

This is a story about friendship and betrayal. It is told by the characters from different prespectives. There are surprises that make one wonder about the power of friendship and forgiveness. It also makes one wonder about the client-lawyer relationship. In the end I think it is a love story with a sick twist.

The Best Friend by Adam Mitzner is, I believe, his best legal thriller to date! I picked it up and didn’t stop reading until the last page – honest!

The plot is complex and engaging with two distinct storylines. It’s almost like listening to two pieces of complimentary classical music simultaneously: the prose intertwines to create a musical score that coaxes you this way and that.

The characters are beautifully developed. They’re intelligent, witty, empathetic and reproachable which makes it so easy for the reader to relate.

The courtroom scenes are gritty and entertaining. There were times I actually held my breath while waiting for an “Objection!” or an “Overruled.”. Yet they are concise and direct and don’t lead to boring ramblings or repeated testimony.

Overall, one of the best courtroom thrillers I have read in a long time!

Adam Mitzner writes the kind of thrillers that I love to read and THE BEST FRIEND is no exception.

This is a story about a long-time friendship between two buddies with some lingering doubts about one of them.
30 years later when both men are wildly successful, they are brought together under challenging circumstances where once again, doubt is cast over one of the friend's actions.

Highly developed storyline and characters. This is a robust story that moves rapidly and I couldn't praise it enough.

Thanks for letting me read and review. I hope that the author is willing to come on my radio show as my guest.

Excellent character development adds to a perfect plot for those characters. When one of the best friends is accused of murder, the other, a lawyer, comes to his rescue. Secrets threaten the bonds of the friendship, and when a second murder trial occurs, those bonds are tested even further. The author has done a great job of entertaining, but also teaches and makes the reader evaluate his own motives, attitudes, and reactions.

While the writing in this is on par with Mitzner's other books, the level of suspense just did not match. Not to say that I didn't enjoy this, especially given some of the characters which I already was familiar with, but it felt a little too fanatical to be suspenseful. I wouldn't say this is worth skipping, but it didn't captivate me in the same way as the author's earlier novels. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Best Friend Is Mitzner’s Best Book Yet!

Having read all seven of this author’s previous books I was very pleased to be given an advance copy of The Best Friend (the third book in the Broden Legal series) by NetGalley and the publisher to read.

For quite some time now Adam Mitzner has been on my list of my "don't miss" authors -- meaning that if he wrote it, I'll be rushing to read it — but with The Best Friend he’s risen to near the pinnacle of this list. This is because The Best Friend demonstrates that Mitzner has, yet again, further advanced his skills for writing intelligent, credible, very hard-to-put-down thrillers/mysteries, with very well-developed characters.

Without describing its plot, which can be read about in the Book Description above, The Best Friend shares — and in some cases surpasses — many of the same qualities I felt were characteristic of each of Mitzner's seven previous highly recommendable books: 1) excellent pacing, which starts off slow and steadily builds to a level that will have you turning the pages at a rapid pace to find out what happens next; 2) creating highly realistic flawed, yet sympathetic, characters; 3) providing such true-to-life prose that makes you feel you are actually hearing the characters speaking their words; 4) having the main character and most of his secondary characters be so fully dimensionalized that you forget you are reading a book and not right there with them experiencing the turmoil in their personal and professional lives; and 5) providing some interesting plot twists.

I think it’s obvious from my above comments that I highly recommend you rush out to read a copy of The Best Friend when it is released on or about April 14th. The same recommendation applies to each of Mitzner's other mystery/legal thriller books.

This is the third book dealing with the family of Clint Broden, a high powered lawyer in New York City. While all the books are enjoyable, it is not necessary to have read the other two to understand or love this book.

This is the story of Broden, who in the 1980s was a struggling lawyer who defended his best friend for the murder of the friend's wife. Years after the trial, the two friends cross paths again.

I do not want to give anything away, as I came into the book with no prior knowledge of the plot, and I think that added to the joy.

Mitzner is a fantastic writer, and this book is more quality legal thriller! I literally read it in less than a day, and I'm already anticipating the next book. All his books are well plotted, twisty, and his writing is vivid and enjoyable. You cannot go wrong trying this author.

Thanks to NetGalley, com, the author and publisher for my ARC.
