While I can appreciate this cookbook for what it is, I do not think this cookbook would be enjoyed by most home cooks. Most of the recipes, for both cocktails and tacos, use a good amount of fairly unusually and hard to obtain ingredients. I would have appreciated a small note at the bottom of each recipe with more accessible substitutions for these obscure ingredients. I did really enjoy seeing taco recipes inspired by restaurants that I have eaten at many times. Overall, a solid cookbook for very experienced chefs but I wouldn't recommend this cookbook to your average home cook.

I love tacos! This is a fun and easy to fallow cookbook. This would make a great toss in if you were bringing a gift to a a BBQ.

What is there not to love about a book dedicated to two of my absolute favorite things - tequila and tacos. I felt like I took a continuing ed class in Mexican cuisine while reading this book. I loved how she took readers on a tour of the country by separating culinary experiences in each region. There were a few recipes with some ingredients that I would likely have a hard time finding, but overall these recipes were very accessible. There were fun new flavors that I would personally have thought of, curry, thai - yum! Love the photos along side the dishes....I'm definitely a visual person when it comes to interest in food. I will be referring back to this frequently for margarita recipes this summer for sure! my first recipe from this just might be the dessert tacos!

Tacos and Tequila was an enjoyable cookbook to read through. It was more one of the more unique taco cookbooks I have seen and enjoyed reading about the different regional restaurants and their different spin on tacos. There were also some great takes on the modern taco, such as the Salmon Poke Nori Tacos, the Monte Cristo Taco (yum!!!), and the Ethiopian Injera Taco. While some of the recipes I would probably never make (such as the Angus Carne Asada Tacos with Grilled Cactus, simply because I do not have cactus pads lying around!), there are some I would definitely be adding as staples in my home, like the Eight Row Flint Brussels Sprouts Tacos and the Prickly Pear Paloma. This would be a great addition to anyone who cooks at home, especially and adventurous one!
3.5/5 stars for practicality, but 4/5 stars for a thorough insight into regional and unique cuisine.

Filled with gorgeous photos, Katherine Cobbs’ Tequila & Tacos is a journey from coast to coast. With a host of recipes and cocktails as varied as the geographic area Ms. Cobbs covers, there’s definitely something for everyone in this cookbook.

In addition to an amazing glossary and handy conversion charts, Katherine Cobbs includes beautifully written descriptions of the restaurants, the food, and the cocktails. Even if you never make any of the recipes, Tequila & Tacos is still a fun read.

Cobbs includes some wonderful vegetarian options. I highly recommend the Cauliflower Tacos with Fennel & Ramps and the La Esquina Hongos Tacos with Corn Mole. No matter what kind of mushrooms you use, you’ll enjoy this one.

And as for the cocktails, while some of the ingredients were either hard to find or a bit too complex for me to recreate, the recipes are a wonderful jumping off point. Between the use of fresh fruit and Mexican cocoa, there’s lots to inspire you here.

Tequila and tacos - it's hard to go wrong with those! Honestly, tequila is not one of my favorite liquors, but my boyfriend loves it. I do; however, adore mezcal - and it's a bit harder to find (we have a local bar that specializes in it, but otherwise it may or may not be on the shelves). I was really happy to find that a lot of the drink recipes feature mezcal. Granted, some of those recipes involve infusing the liquor or doing other things so that it isn't a quick pour when you want to make them so there are several recipes that I most likely won't bother trying. I also really enjoyed how the book is broken down into regions and there are suggestions for restaurants to go to in each. There are several recipes that are more labor intensive or have some difficult to find ingredients that may turn off people who don't enjoy cooking and expect tacos to be easily thrown together. Personally, I enjoy having special meals that are a bit different to toss in my menu planning. And it should be warned, this book will make you hungry!

Really enjoyed reading through this, more as I would a food/travel guide than a practical cookbook, but that's just me. The book is structured around Mexican restaurants from each geographic region of the US. Each gets a blurb as well as one taco recipe and one agave cocktail recipe. I especially appreciated the brief lesson about tequila, mezcal, and various other spirits I had never heard of.
One small issue I had was that the one restaurant I actually tried to go online and learn more about actually closed in mid 2019. It's possible this will be corrected for or at least addressed in the final edition of the book.

“To me the taco is meal perfection.”

I was so excited to get this cookbook. My fiancé and I love tacos and cooking, so this is the perfect cookbook for us. I found the cookbook to be informative. The author did a great job explaining tequila, mezcal, queso, and tacos. I enjoyed the way that the book was sectioned based on geographic regions of the United States. All of the recipes included common ingredients that can be found in most grocery stores. I loved the diversity of the recipes. I would definitely make some of the recipes from the cookbook and recommends it to friends.

Thank you Tiller Press and Netgalley for a copy of Tequila & Tacos by Katherine Cobbs for an honest review.

My wife being with Mexican roots, tacos are a big part of our lives (Tequila too, but let's not look like total drunks shall we?). Me being a little Belgium that moved to Los Angeles, I wanted to expand my knowledge of Mexican food and be able to make dishes and impress her and her family.
I probably will a little more now thanks to this book

I love tacos and I love tequila and I love that I learned a lot about both that I hadn't before! The book was well organized, and I Really liked how colourful it was. Looking forward to trying some of the recipes and pairings.

What a creative gift for the person in your life who likes tequila and tacos the way some people like wine and cheese. Recipes of different style tacos, and a tequila pairing to go with each. Great photos of the different kinds of tacos so that if you are used to only making them one way you can see how it’s supposed to look. No nutritional breakdowns on the recipes (because I always note if there are or not), but realistically one isn’t watching the calorie count when tequila (or most liquors/alcohols in general) so it’s not a drawback. There are also histories of the different tequilas.

Great pairings, chapters organized by region. I like this arrangement, highlight of the book was tequila education. It enhanced my tequila knowledge beyond what I learned in college....

I really liked this cookbook. Featuring a variety of different restaurants from around America, there were some unique styles and a large variety of cocktail pairings to go with them. Perfect cookbook if your Taco Tuesday menu is getting a little stale.

I received this advanced copy from
Netgalley in ebooks format. It is an advanced copy and it shows. Hopefully the formatting kinks will be ironed out (recipes not lined up/formatted correctly, etc). Having said that, this book chronicles tequila drinks and tacos from restaurants throughout the US divided by region. Some (many) of the tacos are way different than the casual taco eater will have heard of (goat, cauliflower, cactus, heck maybe even fish) but many of these recipes had me drooling. Now the cocktails? I see many bad decisions in my future that I’ll be blaming on these. I’ve already put the Baja fish tacos on my menu for next week. This is an awesome addition to your bar and cookbook collection.

4 stars

This book was a very enjoyable read. The cover is beautiful, as are the photos of the various dishes inside. It was interesting to learn about the variations of the food AND drink in regards to the different regions of Mexico and the United States. The only disappointment that I have is the lack of availability in my area of many of the ingredients called for in the recipes.

A book about Tacos and Tequila, I'll wait until you find a better combo.
I loved how this book gave the history of tacos and tequila, while also giving you recipes and pairings.
I loved learning about the different regions and how the recipes differ depending on where you are located.
I am excited to try some of the recipes. I also loved how the broke down each ingredient and dish so that you can learn all about the cuisine.
I think that this book would be a fantastic gift for the taco lover, a wonderful coffee table book and it would also looks great displayed on the shelf!
I think that the recipe that intrigued me the most was the Cauliflower Tacos with Fennel and Ramps.

A seriously yummy mix of the author's favorite taco's from around the U.S. and the perfect tequila cocktail pairings! Honestly, can this BE any better? Nope.

I'm the daughter of a Navy brat who grew up and used his GI bill to get a culinary degree. So not only did he grow up all over the world but he learned how to cook a lot of the food he discovered. Even though I am from coastal Virginia, Mexican inspired and SoCal influenced cooking have always been a staple in our house growing up. I was really surprised as a kid (and even an adult) when people thought it was some new cooking trend (snort!)

Seriously, I love tacos. I have fully infected my hubby with a serious love for Mexican-inspired cooking and he is now a huge fan of street tacos and craft beer. I love cooking and am always looking for more recipes. I love how with a few spice changes you can change a meal from Italian to Mexican to traditional American. I try my best at Asian and Mexican style fare.... but... sometimes you need someone's Abuelita standing over your shoulder to give you a few pointers.

'Tequila & Tacos' goes through the gambit of more traditional styled dishes to some of the more inspired/inventive taco-styled creations AND where you can go to try them (if you don't want to try the recipes provided). The whole book makes you feel privileged to know this awesome chef who not only shares the stories behind the dishes but knows these restaurant chef's well enough that they share their recipe secrets!

So stoked to try some of these recipes. And the tequila cocktails all sound amazing! This is some serious mouth-watering yum going on here!

A book for the taco and tequila aficionado? Sign me up!

Three words. Tacolicious Pastrami Taco.
Don't forget the mother of all cocktails: The Tequila Daisy.

These mouth-watering recipes are phenomenal and I learned so much! Especially how to add some zest into our Taco Tuesday! I will certainly be trying more of these recipes!

Sample the country’s most tantalizing tacos paired with equally inventive tequila-inspired cocktails—from seasoned food writer and libation enthusiast Katherine Cobbs.

Tacos have been trending for years, and finally tequila is having its taco moment. While a crunchy, savory beef taco washed down with a frozen margarita is always acceptable, today the inspired options for what can be stuffed in an edible wrapper or blended with agave spirits are infinite.

Behind the bar, the burgeoning array of top-shelf tequilas and mezcals available hold their own—and even outshine—liquor mainstays like vodka, gin, and bourbon. The ubiquitous tequila shot with requisite salt and lime chaser can’t compete with the complex, nuanced flavors of the finely crafted blanco, reposado, and añejo tequilas and smoky mezcals that deserve sipping and savoring.

Featuring authentic classics like Tacos Al Pastor and Baja-style fish tacos, Tequila & Tacos also includes entirely new spins on the taco—such as fried Brussels sprout tacos, spicy cauliflower tacos in Indian paratha shells, or tempura-battered seaweed tacos cradling ahi tuna—paired with uncannily delicious cocktails crafted with the finest agave spirits, like a traditional tart Paloma cocktail rimmed with spiced salt or an eye-opening Mezcal Manhattan. Curated from bars and taco stands around the country, this book is a must-have for the taco and tequila aficionado.

The photography alone is worth the price of this book. Beautiful, mouth watering photos make you want to order a margarita and fill up on a plate full of delicious tacos. Who doesn’t have a favorite taco?

This book begins with explanations of the variety of tequila, mezcal, and agave spirits, types of taco fillings, various cheeses, and taco toppings. From this point, the book moves into a variety of featured places, around the country that serve tacos. Many of the tacos are new recipes created for adventurous eating. Following each restaurant description is a recipe for a special drink and one for a taco. Some are more complicated than others. However, most look like they would be worth the time it takes to create them. I especially was drawn to the various shrimp and fish tacos as they are my favorite types.

Any collector of cookbooks or cook that is interested in Mexican cooking would appreciate receiving this book as a gift. Better yet, purchase it for yourself and add it to your own collection!

This book was a very interesting exploration of the history and background of Tequila. I am a tequila and taco lover and this book took me back to my trips to Mexico and tequila tastings we did there. Some of the recipes had some items that may be hard to find in a Southern state. It would be fun to have a T&T party and try some of them though!!
