This is the first time a Megan Miranda has grabbed me from the beginning. I always enjoy her books, but this one definitely grabbed me from the beginning and I enjoyed the ride.

I love Megan Miranda's books, and this is another winner. Suspenseful and a great twist at the end. Highly recommend!

This story totally reminded me of the Jessica McClure story from the 80s. In this a little girl who was sleepwalking gets swept up in the drainage system to be rescued by a young man. What happens when this girl becomes an adult and then strange things start happening around her? Life isn't as simple as it seems. Thanks to netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the book to read and review.

With the use of TV transcripts, newspaper articles and voice mails Miranda creates a path leading to the truth about what really happened to a 6-year old rescued from storm pipes. Arden, who legally changed her name to Olive to escape her past runs head-first into that past 20 years later. Its creepy and it’s a compelling mystery with lots of red herrings and a totally unexpected conclusion. It has me rethinking about a real rescue, Baby Jessica who was rescued from a Texas well. Is she still struggling to remake her life?

As usual, Megan Miranda did not disappoint!! I loved her last book “The Last House Guest” and have since read all of hers and this one was just as amazing!

The main character was involved in a “baby Jessica in the well” type story (hello, my fellow 80s babies) as a child in rural KY (yayy for bringing in my home state) and her sleepwalking story went national even though a lot of her actual memories of the event were gone. She grows up, changes her name, moves on, but then, sleepwalking one night, falls over a body in her yard.

As with her last sleepwalking incident as a child, she can’t quite remember what happened...did she kill this guy? Why was he there? Who was he? Who did it?

It’s unstoppable the entire way through and I loved it!

Loved it and it’s a total ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!!

We have all seen those iconic pictures on the news, magazines and book covers, and social media: the fireman carrying the baby after the Oklahoma City bombing, Jaycee Dugard, Baby Jessica, Madeleine McCann. But do we ever stop to think about how their lives changed? Not by the event that catapulted them into the news, but by being in the limelight forevermore. And not only their lives, but the lives of their spouse, children, parents, and/or friends. Just about the time things may return to some semblance of normalcy for them, the ten; twenty; or even thirty-year anniversary creeps up on them and they are thrown into the media again. It is never ending.

“The Girl from Widow Hills” by Megan Miranda delves into just what happens to someone who is thrust into the limelight and how it affects everyone involved.

Arden Maynor, the girl from Widow Hills, was only six when she was swept away during a flash flood while sleepwalking. Miraculously, she was found three days later by a member of a search party; she was clinging to the inside of a storm drain. What happened to her during that time? How had she survived? How did she receive the odd injuries?

Flash forward almost twenty years. Arden has changed her name to Olivia, moved from Kentucky to North Carolina, and managed to create a life separate from that event. She lives in a remote area with only one neighbor nearby. Strangely, she remembers nothing from the event other than being found.

However, with the twenty-year anniversary looming in the back of her mind, and the recent death of her estranged mother, she begins sleepwalking again. She feels like someone is watching her, hears strange noises, and also has more night terrors. She awakens late one night in her yard and stumbles over a body. A body that she later finds is connected to her past as Arden Maynor.

The story is told with a mixture of current events and old transcripts, interviews, and press conferences from 2000 and shortly after. Loved the mixture that gave the reader background info.

“The Girl from Widow Hills” is a great thriller that kept me up late into the night to find out just what happened to Arden when she was six and what was happening to her now. As with Megan Miranda’s books, she weaves a excellent story and ties everything up satisfyingly at the end.

First line: I was the girl who survived.

Summary: When Arden Maynor was a child she was swept away by a storm while sleepwalking. She spent three days in a drain waiting to be rescued. Now that it is 20 years later she is hoping to escape the “fame” of this event. She has changed her name and moved away from Widow Hills. But when she stumbles upon a body on her property she knows that her past has found her again.

My Thoughts: Megan Miranda is a great writer. I have enjoyed all of her thrillers. She always finds a way to make the story even more shocking then you think it will be. There is a great twist at the end of the story that definitely shocked me! There were so many things going on in the story that it kept my mind jumping around with new theories. I enjoyed the interlacing of the news stories, interviews and 911 transcriptions.

FYI: I always recommend her book, All the Missing Girls, because of how inventive the format is.

The Girl from Widow Hills is the newest book by Megan Miranda. When Arden was a child she was swept away by a flash flood and missing for days. This experience shaped the rest of her life, even to the point of being the cause for her mother and her to move out of state to start their lives over. Fast forward about 20 years and Arden has changed her name and is living on her own trying to forge a life. One night she makes a horrible discovery that sets off a chain reaction. A fast-reading book that keeps you guessing right up to the end. Read and enjoy!

As a child, Arden Maynor was rescued after being caught up in a rainstorm. She was missing for days, and it was a miracle when she was found alive. Now, Arden is an adult, living far away from her home town and going by a different name. She wanted to get away from her past, but it catches up with her when a man she knew from her childhood is found dead outside her home.

Arden changed her name to Olivia and lives where no one knows about her past. As a child, she was the focus of a lot of media attention after her miracle rescue. She lived through a traumatic event in her childhood, and she wants to leave it in the past. Olivia is an intriguing character. She's independent and determined. She's also a little bit unreliable, since she occasionally sleepwalks and doesn't remember things from her sleepwalking episodes. When a man from her past ends up dead outside her home, she is forced to face her past and find the truth about what really happened years earlier.

A suspenseful mystery that slowly unravels. Well-paced story with interesting characters. A good read for fans of mysteries and thrillers. Atmospheric and captivating.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Spoiler Alert — You’ll never guess what really happened to The Girl From Widow Hills in Megan Miranda’s latest and one of 2020's most thrilling page-turners.

The synopsis of this recently published thriller had me hooked before I turned the first page!

I find the act of sleepwalking to be both interesting and a little creepy. That’s exactly what our protagonist, Arden Maynor, was doing on the night she went missing in Widow Hills, Kentucky.

Twenty years later, Arden goes by a new name, Olivia, and she wants nothing more than to leave her past behind her. But, that’s kind of hard to do when you wake up in the middle of the night with a dead body at your feet.

While our sleepwalking protagonist is the most obvious suspect, The Girl from Widow Hills is full of untrustworthy characters. If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself both rooting for Olivia to prove her own innocence (this girl has been through enough; she can’t be a murderer too!)and eagerly turning the pages in search of the real murderer.

The plot twist was a 5 ★ read for me! The plot definitely grabbed my attention, but some characters were underdeveloped and the ending felt somewhat rushed. Overall, I give The Girl From Widow Hills 4 stars. ★ ★ ★ ★

Suspenseful, thrilling, mystery..
Likeable protagonist.
Keeps you guessing till the end who is the murderer or whether or not Olivia remembers anything.

5 out of 5 stars

Megan Miranda never lets me down. there are certain authors that you just wait excitedly for each release and that is the case with Miranda. Her novels pull me in right away and I absolutely love each of her main characters. This book was just as good as I hoped/expected!

Arden survived something terrible, at six years old she was sleepwalking and she disappeared. She was found three days later in a storm drain by Sean Coleman, a quiet volunteer. Arden's disappearance made the small town of Widow Hills famous as well as Arden and her Mother. Life was never the same and not in a good way. Every time an anniversary of the incident she gets bothered by reporters and harassed by some of the people in her town.

With the twenty year anniversary coming up Arden finally feels safe from the prying eyes of the public. In her small town . She is now named Olivia and no one knows who she is, at least she thinks so but it seems her past is coming back to haunt her.

You know the drill, if you love Megan Miranda then you will really love this novel. If you have not read anything by her but love a good thriller with great characters pick this up and while you are at it read her other books.

Megan Miranda is queen of the slow burn that keeps you guessing until the end. Everyone is a suspect and has a motive. Her novels keep getting better and better. The narrative is not only engaging, but the characters are well developed and all with compelling backstories. A great summer beach read. I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book!!

What I loved: The Girl From Widow Hills kept me guessing from page one until the very end. I loved the mix of documents/ calls from the past and the present day. The writing is great - every chapter hangs on a bit of suspense that makes you want to keep reading to know what will happen next. There were several twists and turns I didn’t see coming. One I kind of guessed but didn’t guess the true extent of. I love a good twisty mystery that’s not overly gory. This is somewhat of a domestic/ family mystery but not in the way that’s overdone lately.

What didn’t work for me: I didn’t feel super close to any character or like I really got to know them, and I know that’s by design, but that always feels a little missing in this style of mystery. It makes it hard to root for the narrator, although I was rooting for Olivia and for finding out the truth.

I’d recommend this to: Mystery fans, readers who like Megan Miranda’s other books, readers who enjoy Lisa Jewel and Riley Sager.

Quick read and will keep you on the edge of your seat. A little difficulty in getting into the book but keep going, it becomes clearer as you go what is happening to Olivia and how and why she is having these odd thoughts. Not sure she was fully developed as a character until more towards the ending. I didn't particularly care for the open like ending or how her relationship status was left, but it was ok. Overall, you'll be surprised at the how and when of all the events that are plaguing Olivia. It is definitely a psychological mystery thriller that will keep you reading! I did enjoy the book.
I was provided an Advanced reader copy and was under no obligation to provide a review. The opinions expressed are my own. Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
