Well somehow Undone managed throw many of my big no's at me and I still could not put this book down and in fact finished it in one sitting.

miscarriage/still birth (in the past, but described), scary pregnancy and delivery stuff (on page, secondary character), gas-lighting and emotional abuse (in the past), cancer mention.

The basics: Jess Cohen is ready to celebrate her best friend and business partner's wedding, but is concerned that she'll be in close proximity with their fellow friend and her former lover, Jake Winton. She and Jake had a secret four month long relationship that was entirely amazing but had to end because Jess didn't want to promise Jake forever, or even come clean to their friends. Jake, heart broken, moved across the country to the west coast.

Now Jake is back and their chemistry is still off the charts, but Jess still is convinced that they cannot ever work long term. Jake is confused, but is willing to wait for the woman he's always loved and is also willing to set her free if she truly is done with their relationship. And he refuses to sleep with Jess even for just one more time. His heart is too involved.

Now, why, with all evidence that Jake is 100% in for forever, is Jess so prickly and unwilling to be in a relationship? Both she and Jake have great jobs, they can basically live wherever they'd like, or at least try the long distance thing because they can afford airfare. Their friends would be completely onboard. What is the hold up?

This is the third book in the Start Up in the City series. I read the first in this series a couple months ago, somehow completely missed the second book, and have now read the third. I love that most romances can be read in any order without really losing anything. There's just something so satisfying about being able to pick up a book whether it's number one or number twelve, and being able to follow the plot perfectly fine.

Jess Cohen runs a major tech company and has no time for a serious relationship. She is perfectly content to sleep with whoever catches her fancy, and no one is going to shame her for it. Her only problem is that she did have a sort of, secret relationship with her business partner's older brother, Jake, and he is back in town to attend his brother's wedding. Jess ended that relationship when she thought it was getting too serious, which broke Jake's heart and sent him moving clear across the country to San Francisco.

Now Jake is back in town, and Jess is having very inconvenient feelings about it. She's always been a very outgoing but independent person, but against her wishes she feels something a lot deeper for Jake than she anticipated. Jake, for his part, is still broken up about how their relationship ended. His life has continued since his move to San Francisco, but he has not managed to find someone who affects him like Jess has.

Jess was a hard character to really get a read on. She is a very abrasive character, and she has very strict rules for herself that come across as bull-headed, until she opens up to Jake about why she is so anti-marriage and so set on keeping her relationships shallow. I thought that bringing in her baggage around her family and her past relationships really deepened her character. Jake, for his part, is very supportive and understanding of Jess' past, though he does tend to push the relationship aspect a little hard. At one point he becomes convinced that he can change Jess' mind about relationships and marriage, but once Jess confronts him about it he understands how messed up that is.

I did really like that Jess kept to her ideas about marriage, and that she never reconsiders her stance on it. She is a character that knows her own mind and once Jake understands why she has the views she does, he does not waver in supporting her decisions.

A very nicely well-done romance.

Received free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Highlight for trigger warnings: domestic abuse, stillborn babies, emotional abuse.

Jake is just so charming, “Jessica. Clara is a dog. She’s—” He groans and reaches for his phone. “She’s a dog. An actual dog. That’s her species, not an insult. Now can you put some clothes on and stop acting like a crazy jealous person so I can apologize for being an a***ole back there?” Oh the thoughts this woman gets when her man is thoughtful, "oh, I am going to give that man the blowjob of his life tonight." I liked this book, I loved Jake.

I think I may have liked this book the best, we had met Jess from the very beginning and after reading the last book, we wanted to know what happened with Jake and boy did we. I have to admit that sometimes Jess annoyed me however we got to see why. Jake is wonderful and I liked him as a bookboyfriend an then some..We went thru some emotions with this book, sadness, happiness and laughter...Good bye my friends until Kelly writes a new series..

Although I found the heroine of this story a tad bit insufferable at times, the heartwarming parts of the story were able to outweigh my frustrations. Undone is a very cute book about love, friendship, boundaries, and vulnerability, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the others in the series. It's entirely character-driven, but if you're okay with a book that's light on plot and heavy on feelings, this is the romance for you.

I loved this book so much more than I ever expected! Thank you, Kelly Rimmer, for creating such a strong, independent female who owns her flaws but does not see the lack of children in her life as making her incomplete or less of a person or woman. The character of Jess is unfolded to the reader beautifully, later by layer, no matter how painful those layers are to face. At the same time, those layers are revealed to Jake, who is someone every man should take a lesson from in regards to how he views women and modern relationships. He was dreamy not only from a physical sense but in an emotional sense at all.

This book is more than a straightforward romance; it deals with unsuccessful outcomes of pregnancy, emotional abuse, and the repercussions of both in a realistic sense. There is only one sex scene which is a strong 4.5 put of 5 on my eggplant scale but it could be easily read over if too much for sensitive readers. It was from start to finish a beautiful story that starts light and gets heavy at a pace that is easily to digest. I am so looking forward to reading more from Kelly Rimmer as she has yet to let me down and more writers should take a page from her book in writing women that do not need children in order to mark their success in life.

I have to come up with some new superlatives especially when describing stories penned by Kelly Rimmer. Kelly Rimmer moves from books that make you gasp and take your breath away with their important message and relative topics. Then she throws in a few delightful romantic romps that go beyond the pale with interpersonal relationships that sometimes defy logic but then again since when is love logical.
So now we have UNDONE the third installment in Kelly Rimmer’s “UN” series as I like to call them. UNDONE follows Unexpected and Unspoken. All three follow the lives of three women, best friends and their ups and downs in their love lives. Each is a pretty independent tale but it has been such a joy to watch all these relationships change, grow and morph from friends to friends with benefits and hopefully to the one.
UNDONE is Jessica Cohen’s time to take center stage. Jess has been a very important character in all the “UN” stories but Kelly Rimmer now lets us meet the real Jess. Not the persona she effortlessly shows the world but the events that shaped this amazing character. It’s time to discover who Jessica Cohen really is and believe it or not her best friends may just be the last to know.
Jess is quite brilliant and now CEO of Brainway Technologies with her two friends Paul and Marcus. They are an awesome team and like a family. Paul and Marcus have discovered there is more to life than IT and their lives are still evolving in UNDONE.
However Jess has never been an open book and current circumstances seem to force her hand. Lucky for Jess she has a dependable support group but faces the fact that perhaps she too – dare I suggest – needs someone to lean on. Not just a fabulous friend who adores her but someone that can actually wrap her in love and caring and give her a chance to hopefully move past her own personal grief.
Quite a task and this is where Jake reenters the picture. He has tried before to breach Jess’ barriers and convince her that they deserve chance. Only time will tell if their time is now.
Kelly Rimmer reminds us in UNDONE that relationships come in all sizes and types. UNDONE is about taking a chance on a rather unorthodox way to learn to trust someone. Pretty difficult thing to do when your past is filled with folks that were untrustworthy and unsupportive. Kelly Rimmer takes us on an emotional voyage with Jess and Jake. Definitely worth the price of admission.

I will read anything that Kelly Rimmer puts out! I’m not usually a romance book reader but I jumped at the chance to read this romance trilogy. I enjoyed book 3, as I was wholly invested in the characters by this point. This was a sweet and perfect ending to this trilogy! I’m glad I stepped out of my genre comfort zone to try something new because these books were fun and put a smile on my face. Thank you to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first time reading this series and this is book 3 in the series. That said this book was really intense but in a super good way. I should warn you that at first I kinda hated Jess, the heroine in this story. The first 20% was a tought read but after that I could not put it down.

This is book 3 and keep in mind I have never read the other books. It has three couples in this story. We are attending the re-wedding of couple Paul and Izzy at the start of this story. We then meet couple Abby and Marcus and they are besties with the marrying couple and are together and pregnant with twins and they are part of the wedding. Then we meet the couple who star in this book and that is Jess and Jake. Jake is Paul's brother, a doctor and he now lives in California but he used to date and live in NY with Jess. Jess is besties with the bride and Abby and partners in business with Marcus and Paul.

Two years before Jess and jake secretly dated until she dumped him. He was broken hearted and moved to California and the wedding is the first time they see each other and it does not go well. Jake really helps Jess and it gets her to open up a bit to him and he has to decide if they should try again.

This was an awesome story. AWESOME!! But I also don't want to spoil anything except to say it is a page turner.
