As a mom who has been forced and came to enjoy the Descendants trilogy in film and have a daughter who loves all things related to this cast of misfits striving for good. I loved that we get a little more in Dizzy and her adventures!

Graphic novels are not my typical go to but as my children would love to read nothing else I've devled into the world and can say that this is a beautifully illustrated edition with large enough font for these old eyes to read. 😂 The struggle is real, this book removed all struggle!

It is a sweet adventure for any Descendants fan! My Mini Me's review is as follows: "Dizzys Fortune New is an awesome book! When I first read it I was amazed how dizzy reacted when she heard her fortune. She was easily tricked by harry, but in the end dizzy refused to work for harry hook any longer."

Dizzy's New Fortune follows Dizzy Tremaine the daughter of Drizella Tremaine. Dizzy receives a letter from King Ben inviting her to Auradon. Allowing her to leave the Isle of the Lost and to attend Auradon Prep just like Evie, Mal, Carlos, and Jay.

Though excited Dizzy is also worried about what will happen when she gets there, will she be able to fit in? She tries to fit in around the Isle by being a pirate, fortune-teller with the “help” of the other Villain Kids of the Isle.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a free e-arc copy of this title for an honest review. The book has an overall message about being yourself and standing up for who you are. I’m glad that we got to see a little more backstory about Dizzy and Celia. I thought that they portrayed the characters exactly like they would in the movies. The characters also looked like they did in the movies as well. I loved the artwork style in this graphic novel. Much like the movies the book has a lot of colors which are great visually. The Bonus art section was an awesome add-on. It is always interesting to see the process that lead up to the final product and how much work really goes into it. I will be looking forward to other Descendants graphic novels and books like this one. This would be a great read for any fan of the Descendants series.

I’ll be honest, I know nothing about the Descendants series beyond the absolute basics. I’ve never watched the movies. Never read any of the other books. That said this book looked so cute that I just had to read it.

The book follows Dizzy, the daughter of one of Cinderella’s step-sisters. She’s trying to figure out where she fits in. Perhaps with the pirates or maybe with the psychic? Or maybe she’s one of a kind who doesn’t need to be just like someone else.

This is a super cute book about finding yourself and deciding about how hard you should be trying to fit in with anyone. . My only complaints would be that for people not familiar with the Descendants, it was kind of weak at introducing the characters and the story was too short. I don’t mind short, but I do mind not feeling like I read a complete story, and this fell a bit short in that department..

The art style is gorgeous. The final pages show some of the earlier storyboard art side by side with the finished ink images. I’d definitely read more in the series.

I love the Descendants, especially Dizzy so when I saw this I had to read it!

This graphic novel takes place right after the first movie so be aware of the spoilers if you haven't seen the movie yet.

Dizzy was offered a chance to go live in Auradon with Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay and she's so excited about it. But she's worried for the future so she asks for advice.

Dizzy's New Fortune is cute, fun, a fast read and a beautiful addition to the Descendants world. Here we get to know Dizzy herself, Celia, Gil and Harry a bit better and their life in the Isle. This also has such a good final message: to be yourself no matter what. I loved that Dizzy is the one learning that lesson here, as she is a brilliant character and an amazing example for that.

The artwork in here is beautiful and I love how colorful this is. Dizzy is a very creative character and she is perfectly portrayed in this graphic novel.

I read this with my daughter, we actually shared the chapters to read which went perfectly. The art work was amazing to look at and the story line was great and learning to be yourself is always a good thing to read and know specially for my daughter. We also both love Descendants so there is that we always love to look forward to.

I was hoping to love the book, but ended up liking it. This manga follows Dizzy (the grand daughter of one of Cindrella's step sisters). She gets an acceptance letter from King Ben inviting her to Auradon. There are fortune tellers, pirates, fashionistas and villains. Dizzy tries to fit in different roles as a ship mate, pirate etc and discovers herself.

This was a delightful little romp. I'm a big Descendants fan so when I saw this on Netgalley I jumped on it. The novels were a bit of a bust for me so I was a little worried going in but it was definitely worth the read.

This manga follows Dizzy, the grand daughter of Lady Tremaine, in the time between Descendants 2 and 3. Dizzy has gotten her acceptance letter from King Ben inviting her to Auradon and is impatiently awaiting the day the second wave of VK's get to leave the Isle. In the few days she has left it seems like everyone is trying to bring the little fashionista down. From Celia Facilier to Harry Hook and his band of miscreants, every body just wants to get their claws into the girl with the golden ticket.

*SPOILERS*

~Pros~

I loved the subtle nod to the Harry/Gil bromance. Gil has always seemed like a genuinely good hearted character who is just always on the wrong side because of who he drew alliances with. He's devoted to Harry on deep level and values their adventures together above everything else. The scene with him was a nice little reprieve from all the peer pressure being put on Dizzy.

Dizzy is as adorable as ever! I loved seeing her in a more somber mood, as she is always so energetic in the films. The morals that the manga is pushing are great ones for young teens who are just figure life out. It teaches that you should never let someone dictate who you are going to be and that you hold the keys to your own future. The Celia arc also teaches to not let people take advantage of your kindness and walk all over you. That it's ok to stand up for yourself. Great messages for a younger audience.

The art is absolutely beautiful! All the characters looked like they do in the films except for Harry, but I'll put that in the cons section. Celia's art was exceptionally well done. I loved the Oracle card details and the little panels of her being a sneak.

~Cons~

Harry Hook doesn't look much like his character in the films. There was a significant lack of eyeliner. He looked almost like Killian from Once Upon a Time instead of his counterpart from Descendants 2 or 3. It's a small nit pick.

The recap in the letter to Evie at the end felt a little pointless. I just read 100 pages of story. Why do I need it condensed back into 4 pages of refresher? I think even the artwork was recycled for those panels. Just seemed a little lazy.

All in all a short and solid read if you are a fan of the Descendants series. Would love to read more of these manga and will definitely pick this on up in print.

ARC COpy...Even though art was gorgeous with full colour illustrations and the Manga styling works better with this franchise in compare to other disney mangas I have read...fans will probably like it, I'm still mixed about Descendants series as a whole feeling it to be inferior-cashing on the original stories/characters.

Thanks NetGalley for providing a free copy of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review.

I have watched all three Descendants movies to date. It's my guilty pleasure lol. But this is my first time reading a graphic novel version of it. The art is awesome and looks just like the movie actors. I also happen to love Dizzy - she's an eccentric, charming dreamer and it shows in this novel. I like how she is "trying to fit in" and finding herself in the process. It's just a cute positive story for children. I also love how we get to see more of Harry and Gil, and okay Maybe Celia too. I just love Dizzy being a pirate - I mean, can you believe that?! Also, Gil is so adorably funny. Fun, good read especially if you have seen and liked the movies. If you haven't, that's okay, it still is a fun story.

Descendants: Dizzy’s New Fortune by Jason Muell, 128 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL
Tokyopop, 2020. $16.
Language: G (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG
BUYING ADVISORY: EL, MS - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Dizzy is anxious about going to Auradon Prep in a couple weeks. She’s happy to get help from Celia, Harry, and Gil in preparation for her new school, but nothing seems to be working. Is Dizzy going to fit in at Auradon?
Muell writes a cute story focused on being yourself -- your best self -- no matter what others say. Dizzy faces lots of different voices trying to tell her what to do, but she finds the strength to stay true to what she thinks is right. While the solution felt abrupt to me, I think the message comes across well, and it’s an important message for the audience to internalize. The illustrations, though, are my favorite part.

I read Disney Manga: Descendants - Dizzy's New Fortune by Jason Muell, Natsuki Minami (Contributor) via Netgalley and was excited as it would be my first Manga. Don't get me wrong the artwork was second to none but I found it hard to read what seemed to be either speech or thoughts in blue and it did spoil my enjoyment. I don't know if I will pick up another of these books so I am giving it 3 stars which is a pity as it could of scored much higher.

Disclaimer but I have not watched any of the Descendants movies or read any of the tie-in novels. Still I gave this a shot because really liked the cover art . I am a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed this given that I know very little next to nothing about the world or the characters. Even so feel you can go into this not knowing the characters and still enjoy it. Course if you have read anything else or watched the related movies will probably enjoy it all the more. The art for this is so much fun, the character designs and coloring work is amazing and honestly the best thing about this. The story is interesting enough for what it is. Will say the only thing I did not enjoy is toward the end there is more or less a summary of what all happened. Get what it was trying to do but just didn't get why it was there. Get that these sort of books are for kids but would have got the little summary in the next volume than in the current one. Overall fun and enjoyable.

This quick side story focuses on Dizzy, a character in the Descendants series who is not a villain by nature. The manga art is colorful and well drawn, and the coloring was bright and cheerful. The story plot focuses on Dizzy finding what will make her fit in at the Auroradon school off the island, but after exploring various skills and personalities, she recognizes that what makes her unique is what she wants to be.

This is a cute short story with a wonderful moral about being a good and honest person. The art aspect of it was also done really well.
