Lies Lies Lies by Adele Parks Reviewed on July 6, 2020
I went into this novel without really knowing anything about it. Not sure why I put it on my TBR list.
I have never read a novel by Adele Parks.
I guess I was curious. I realize that most folks have told a lie but lies, lies, lies?

Story starts off with Daisy and Simon having a comfortable life with daughter Millie. Simon has been a bit of drinker but his drinking goes over board when he finds out that Daisy may have lied to him.
Hmm he never lied?

Told from POV of both… both are unlikeable characters. I did like that Ms. Parks tackles the problem of drinking. Although this story did not work for me; I have no doubt that it will find the right readers.

Want to thank NetGalley and Harlequin Books for this early release granted to me in exchange for an honest professional review. Publishing Release Date scheduled for August 6, 2020

This book has many lies and secrets. A couple wanting a baby very bad. Then, they get a miracle but things still will not be "perfect". This book's story was one many people can relate to and have touched many of our lives in one way or the other. There were some more darker things in the this book that were not great. I know dark can be part of lie. I was a little disappointed in the ending but all in all this was a good book. I did enjoy a new author! *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

This book was more of a family drama than a thriller. It deals with alcoholism, abuse, domestic violence just to name a few. I didn’t guess the final twist or many others as the story progressed. The characters were hard to like, however it did keep me anticipating the next twist.

Beautifully written book about some rough subjects. Both Simon and Daisy have some terribly destructive secrets they are both keeping for their own reasons. Simon is an alcoholic that is in the process of destroying his family if he doesn’t get a handle on things. Daisy endured a horrific event early on in her marriage and chose not to tell anyone because she feared she had some fault in the matter. Both Daisy and Simon want to do what’s right for their young daughter, but are struggling to do so. Excellent book about a deeply dysfunctional family.

TW- rape, abuse, animal abuse, violence, alcoholism

Unfortunately this book was a big miss for me. The storyline was all over the place and it seems the author went for shock value - with negative results. The end was truly bizarre and had me shaking my head. Just kind of a mess, I’m sad to say.

I really wanted to enjoy this one— the premise was right up my alley. Daisy and Simon are having marital trouble— Simon's descending into alcoholism, and the only bright part of their lives is their miracle daughter, Milly, born after years of IVF failures.

We follow Daisy and Simon through miserable fighting, through a horrific incident, then the aftermath, all with an underlying secret about their fertility troubles. The characters were very difficult to care for or feel sympathetic to; Simon was infuriating much of the time, and I found myself skimming through his sections in avoidance. Daisy could have been a sympathetic character, but the redeeming qualities just weren't there for me. I think my favourite character actually ended up being Lucy who was an ex-best friend of Daisy's who had an affair turned married with her sister's husband.

Overall, the book was a bit too broad and ambitious when it.could have been pared down quite a bit, which would have allowed for a simpler, quicker moving story with more impact. Unfortunately this one wasn't for me, but I might consider checking out more of this writer's work to see if it was just a one-off miss.

This book was quite something... I thought at first it was a bit of a quiet read.... and the the twists started coming! I love how once they started they literally didn’t stop! What a page turner! Well done!!

Thank you to Adele Parks, Harlequin Books and NetGalley for this ARC.

This is a fast paced, super twisty domestic suspense with a "OMG!" ending! Adele Parks tackles some touchy subjects (alcoholism, depression) with finesse. I loved this one!

This didn't work for me for a lot of reasons. The killing of an animal... ugh. Can't handle it. I felt it was slow, I didn't connect with any of the characters, and I felt like a lot of it was really repetitive. I usually like this author, so I am going to try again with her next book.

This plot was pretty complicated and the writing compelling. I just plain didn't like the characters. Not a single person caught my sympathy and it was a miss for me. Trigger warning for lying and alcoholism.

Daisy and Simon's marriage is on the rocks. Even though they've been together for years, the only thing that ties them together is their love for Millie, the daughter they longed for.

Simon is a struggling alcoholic and Daisy is finding it increasingly difficult to hide her complete and utter disgust towards him. Millie is the only light in their married life—she is beautiful and perfect.

One night after a party, things spiral horribly out of control. Their family will never be the same.

With incredibly flawed characters, Adele Parks' latest work is a domestic drama/suspense that has got some teeth. Lies, Lies, Lies is a slow burn with a cast of layered and flawed characters—some of which are not particularly likeable or redeemable.

Parks writes about some extremely difficult issues—addiction, sexual assault, and postpartum depression—and some readers may be triggered. She does an excellent job with Simon's alcoholism its impact on his life and those around him.

A riveting character study, this book covers the full gamut of lies: denials, omissions, exaggerations, and fabrications so explosive that the consequences will forever change lives. Lies, Lies, Lies is a dark and unflinching tale with the most insidious final twist.

This book was crazy! From start to finish I could not put it down. At titles I found the characters to be very unlikeable, but I think thats what drew me to the book!

I don't enjoy giving bad reviews because writing is an art form and art is subjective. That being said, I really didn't like this book. At all. I couldn't even finish it. Usually when I'm reading I look forward to finding out what is going to happen next, but this story left me so disinterested I had to force myself to get through as much of it as I did. The main characters were unlikeable. The story dragged on and on. This book is not a Thriller, it is basically Domestic Fiction. Bad Domestic Fiction. From other reviews I have read, I see there are many people who have enjoyed this book. I wish I could have been one of them.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for giving me an advanced copy to read and review.

Daisy and Simon along with their daughter Millie are the perfect family. Daisy is a school teacher, Simon an interior designer, and Millie a gifted ballerina. Looks can be deceiving though, and this family's foundation is built on secrets and lies.
Simon liked to drink a lot. It is how he relaxed after a long day at work and how he managed to get to work at all. Everything is better when he is drunk, and the blackouts and hangovers don't slow him down one bit. Until one night when his drinking costs him everything.
Daisy tolerated Simon's addiction and for the longest time, I couldn't understand why. He made a spectacle of himself at home, at work, in front of their friends and neighbors, and will choose to drink over any promises he makes to his wife or daughter. I seriously disliked Simon but I loathed Daisy for being his enabler. All I could think about was how it was affecting six-year-old Millie. Both Simon and Daisy harbored huge life-changing secrets and when they finally laid all their cards on the table, perhaps some semblance of their family will survive.
For me, this got off to a slow start, but once the secrets started to see the light of day, it got more interesting. I learned how hard it can be to give up alcohol as well as why Daisy made so many poor decisions. Some of the reveals had me shaking my head and I had to remind myself repeatedly, it's only fiction. The author wrote a convincing tale of addiction, enabling, and the cost of carrying around traumatic secrets.

More lies than you can shake a stick at! Daisy & Simon seem to have such a great marriage, but do they really? He drinks a bit, she doesn't mind...until she does. And it's all downhill from here. Such a terrific book with a fabulous conclusion!

Some good, some bad

First book by this author and it wasn’t really a thriller, more domestic drama. The writing was fine, good, but the pacing was a bit slower than I wanted.

There are twists, some not so surprising. Then one so strange and unrealistic that I can’t imagine anyone seeing that coming... Overall, it was entertaining.

Interesting premise and it did keep my attention until the end. I find that is a challenge for me with everything that’s going on. I would check out more by this author.

I really wanted to get swept up in the story but gave up at 20%. when I just couldn't get excited about reading it. Unlikeable characters and the pace are the main reasons for moving on. Lots of 4 and 5 star ratings so it must be me. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read.

The ending was great and fairly unpredictable but I struggled through it for a bit in the details.
Lucy and Simon have had their share of ups and downs but once they finally the daughter they've waited for things should be picture perfect.
Simon's drinking has been a problem off and on for years and he seems to battle the roller coaster here and there but one night a misstep at a party changes everything for both of them.
As they struggle separately with what comes next, the truth could actually be what sets them free.
Told from varying perspectives of Lucy and Simon we see what it's like when assumptions happen without confirming details.

This book covers some heavy issues including alcoholism, infertility and of course Lies, Lies and more Lies!

Daisy and Simon live a happy and unassuming life until Simon decides he wants another child.
Their daughter, Millie, was conceived via IVF and Daisy isn't keen on going through this process again. That's when things start to go downhill and quick! This only a small part of their marital discord. Simon's alcoholism is the elephant in the room that everybody tiptoes around. Soon Simon's addiction gets so out of hand, that he does something terrible and is sent to prison for 3 years. Will his marriage survive this? Will be finally be able to stop drinking? Can he get his life back on track after prison?

This is very much a story of an alcoholic's journey. Simon's alcoholism and his relationship with alcohol is perfectly portrayed in this novel. Additionally, Daisy's codependency is wonderfully crafted and well portrayed. Unfortunately, this story didn't set itself up as a tale of alcoholism, it consequences and the redemption that can come from recovery. And that's really where it missed the mark for me. It veered off in several other directions and just went off the rails.
For a book titled 'Lies Lies Lies' I was expecting something crazy and over the top. Rather, I found the plot predictable and the lies didn't feel particularly shocking.

Picked this book up a few times but I have not been able to get past my dislike of the main characters. Very unlikeable and Simon's drinking issues starting at a very young age just put me off. Just too hard for me to suspend belief.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.
