I very very rarely give a bad review but this time I am. I couldn't help but cringe while reading because the characters are awful and the story is so flat. The concept is good, it could be a great spooky story but the writing failed. I understand it is an ARC but there were so many typos and missing words it was blaringly obvious and distracting. I would classify this book as more of fluffy paranormal because there isn't anything scary about it and it spends a lot of time on the drama in the main characters life. This book, in my honest opinion, needs more polishing. But if you like drama and not super scary paranormals you might like it.

I really enjoyed this. It was not what I was expecting and I would be super interested to know if there is more to this story. What happens to them?? Do they just continue living a double life? And how did that happen?

The Water Voices
by Kevin Grover

I hate not giving good reviews. I would rather not say anything at all because maybe the book just wasn't for me. So that's what I will say about this novel. I did not find it to be interesting however, that doesn't mean it is a bad book. Just not my style. Sorry but 2 stars.

Personally, I don’t think I’d refer to his book as a paranormal thriller. Yes, I can understand the thriller side but paranormal? I don’t really understand how what happened, happened. It’s left an awful lot of unanswered questions and a whole load of things unclear. I definitely think it should have been wrapped up a little neater.

First let me say the author is good & has the potential for great. I am putting that out there first in my exasperation of this whole book. I have never had a worst time finishing a book that I have finished. I usually toss them go on to something palatable. All the characters were well meshed but deplorable. The only one with any likability, depth & decency was Sharon. I know that the author was attempting to encapsulate the alienation, self gratifying, self centeredness & superficiality of modern British life of most upper working class/working class & did one hell of a job at it, perhaps too well. There are twists & turns & I kinda had figured out the gist if things close to the end as an alternative but literally wanted to scream & toss my 13" laptop in "the bedroom" part of "ah, hell no & ain't buying it!'. The very end kinda made up for it though. the author has so much potential but he needs to mesh the characters out with some humanity & depth where you can actually care for them or have some concern for the plot which needs to be fluid but solid in my humble opinion. Don't try to simplify with male female good evil in an unbelievable context. Maybe it is really cultural & he managed to touch ripped nerves in everything I can find useless in some types of people as none of them were anything but self absorbed & serving. Everyone was nothing but props for them with the poor Sharon being the only humanity in it. I would like to see this author grow & write more thrillers but something to work on them being easily digestible

Thank you to Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have very mixed feelings about this book. I liked parts, and it was a fairly creepy book (which is hard to make me feel so well done), but it was also quite confusing. I often found myself going back to reread parts in order to try and figure out if I missed something that would help explain parts later in the book. It never helped. So though I did enjoy the creepy atmosphere, the book definitely needs more meat, more detailed explanations so that the reader can easily follow the story instead of just having to suspend belief in order to go on with what is happening.

This is a book that I have mixed opinions about. I liked it but it was a confusing read. Later on things became clear and i could get more in to the story. The elements are all there: Spooky, ghosts, detective vibe, secrets...

I give it 3 stars because when I finished it it felt complete but during reading I often felt the urge to dnf it.

REVIEW ☆☆☆
The Water Voices has its good and bad aspects. The premise of the story is very intriguing, and you want to know more. The atmosphere is a spooky eerie tableaux that just wraps around the story. The characters, dead or alive, are interesting and complex. But, there are issues with the writing in need of full development, grammar and syntax errors and fully realized characterization. A good edit would fix much of this. It's confusing in the beginning, and clarification would be great. Regardless, the story is good and worth reading if you like a good spooky tale.

This book was interesting thriller for me.  I think the characters were easy to follow I felt a little lost in the beginning of the book, though.  Die and come back to try to find out what happened, not a bad idea for a book.   It was an exciting read.  *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

I loved this thriller since I began to read it! It's perfect for thriller and horror lovers even if they don't read that much these type of books. Honestly I couldn't wait to finish so I decided to read it separately from my ongoing books ( I am the type of person that reads 9 books at the same time)' but with this one was different. I felt like I was part of that plot with thrilling experiences and weird happened things.

The Water Voices is an eerie tail filled with interesting characters and mystery. It reads like old ghost stories or folklore told around a camp fire but based on an old tale from a murder long ago. I had a hard time putting it down it was a good spooky read. It does have some aspects that are a little unusual like a body but a corporal ghost but I enjoyed it. Really needs more editing and can be confusing in some places it kinda jumps around and doesn't tie together well but it has potential.

I received this book form NetGalley for an honest review.

A great story not like most out there, creepy good mystery/thriller. It keeps you wanting to read more face paced with a great ending.

Okay, so I'm still unsure if I liked this one or not.
The beginning, aside from what I felt was amateurish writing, set the book off to a good start. It was intriguing and certainly makes you want to read more. It's set in the present and our main character finds her own dead body. You want to read more now, right?
Then we go back six months and the story catches us up. I felt this part was a little dragged out, if I'm honest. I seriously debated marking it as DNF.
But I continued. And I was pleasantly surprised. The author throws in so many twists it makes your head spin. Sometimes there's a twist too many, but that wasn't the case here. It all came together pretty well in the end. And I certainly didn't see it going the way it did.

The water voices by Kevin Grover.
Paige Palmer is murdered and returns to life, finding her own dead body a few feet away, washed up from the sea. Hiding her body, she hopes she can find the killer before it's discovered.
Someone wants Paige dead, but her best friend has gone missing and she fears she's also in trouble from the same killer. Who could want Paige dead and why?
Events get darker for Paige as she follows the trail of her killer until she learns the past can return with a vengeance. There are darker forces at work, pulling people together so the past can finally rest, while the mysterious Water Voices call to Paige.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the story. It was different. Couldn't put it down. 5*.

Review for 'The Water Voices' by Kevin Grover

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Chell Reads Publishing

This is the first book I have read by this author and I would be interested in reading more of his work as he develops.

The plot is very unique and compelling. However, it did confuse me at the start and I wasn't sure I agreed with the fact there was a dead body and her being an alive ghost people can see. I believed it should have been no body or a body and her not being able to be seen. However, I understand why it had to be done this way.

I enjoyed reading this book and found it quite fast paced with lots of red herrings as well as crime, friendship, mystery, twists and turns, suspense, murder, tension and the paranormal.

THE descriptions were fantastic. However, there were quite a few grammatical errors. This was an ARC Copy so may have been resolved in the finished publication.

THE characters were all very strong and I found some of them very interesting. It goes to show you can't always trust what you believe.

Overall, I would recommend this book to fans of the paranormal, murder, crime, mystery, suspense, thrillers and young adults (13 plus).

Rated 4/5 (I enjoyed it) on Goodreads and Amazon (UK and. Com) and over 30 Facebook pages

Free on kindle unlimited or £1.99 to purchase. I think this is a good price for this novel.

I was excited by the description of this story. It’s a great idea. Someone dying and returning to find the killer. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It starts of great, the first chapter grabs you, I wanted to read on. However we don't get back to that story for 30 chapters. There is a lot of repartition. I think it was intended to bring us up to speed and introduce the characters. I felt I I could have easily skipped 10 chapters and I’d still know what I know now. I found it difficult to keep reading but persevered. Also half way through we start to get chapters from a different characters point of view/thoughts, a nice twist but it was a little confusing. I think I would have liked to have read more of the other characters chapters as well, that may have eradicated some of the repartition, Overall I didn’t hate it but not sure I’d recommend, I would say more of a thriller or crime, not much paranormal apart from the first and last chapters, and definitely not horror.

This book has been a really good read!

Paige the main character finds herself dead at the bottom of a cliff and she’s racing against time to find out who did it and how she ended up there!

Its exciting to read and be a part of her journey to find out what really happened to her. There are a number of characters in the book who we get to learn about and which one could it be... if any? Not everyone is what they seem...

The authors descriptions of the places and the water voices is brilliant, and the concept and idea of the Water Voices is truely incredible, however my only thing I struggled with was the jumping between characters and different years, I found it a little confusing and hard to keep up with and found myself wondering who I was reading about as it jumps quite a lot and is all written in 1st person.

However I kept finding myself coming back as I was so invested in this book and really wanted to find out what happened!

There are some shocking yet exciting and unpredictable twists which I really enjoyed!

Overall a really good read, nothing like i have ever read before!

Well this one surprised me!!! I'll admit I wasnt expecting much from this but I guess I got that wrong! Great paced plot and excellent characters. And genuinely creeped me out in parts.... and that's saying something as I'm not easily spooked.

Congratulations to the author! And many thanks to netgalley for sending me the ARC in exchange for my review

My thanks to Books Go Social, the Author Kevin Grover and Netgalley.
This story started with a bang! I thought, Jeezum crow, this shit is going to be good. Eh? Not so much. I love the concept. I've read a few books that have used this trope before, and I usually enjoy the crap out of them!
I would like to see this storyline rewritten. It would be a killer! Also, the accent? Too much, and too annoying. We readers do understand where these characters are from. Back woods? East end, London? Manchester! Texas! New Mexico! Jersey? Yeah, we read, watch and take note of accents from everywhere! I don't know about other readers, but with me, I adjust my mind accent accordingly. I think most readers do. That's why I can't do audible books. They sound nothing like they should. One voice trying 8 different characters.
I guess in an audible book it's fine, but reading wise? It becomes too much!
