Succeed in Your First Job by Mark Blayney
Congratulations on achieving your first ‘career’ job. Now you need to make a success of it.
Succeed in Your First Job tells you everything you need to know about the real world of work, that no one ever tells you.
Experienced businessman Mark Blayney gives you practical advice, often learnt the hard way from his own mistakes, to give you the edge at work and the confidence to make this the starting point of your successful career. ~From the Publisher
Mr. Blayney begins with these words of wisdom, ” If you learn just one lesson from this book, please let it be about taking charge of your own working future: Don’t just work in your job, work on it.” Each chapter is laid out with that idea in mind, such as managing yourself, managing your coworkers and boss, and managing your career. The first chapter shares information about how to succeed and what to know for the first few months of a new job.
Mr. Blayney throughout the book shares a variety of topics for the reader to go deeper from tests potential employers use, to time management, to stress management to enhance their job experience. Throughout the book, he shares a mixture of tables, Venn diagrams, and charts to further ideas. The layout of the book leaves a lot of white space that aids the reader in absorbing the great wealth of information for first-time jobholders.
This book is marketed to teens but anyone looking to succeed or brush up on some job skills will find this title helpful. Mr. Blayney is from Britain so some of the words he uses are a little unusual for an American audience but this should not hinder anyone from picking up this informational book. Hand this book to every high school graduate to set them up for success.

As someone whose job is to get people into work when they have been out of work for a long time, I thought this book was highly informative and one that I will be recommending to my clients.
