This was such an adorable read!
The author did such an amazing job at writing very realistic and likable characters and plot.
Lola thought she had it all until an unfortunate(or maybe not so) accident that broke her leg showed her the truth behind the people she had surrounded herself with.
The book, to me, was basically a “coming of age” but for adults. It’s main character had to reevaluate her life and circumstances, she had to grow and adjust and learn who she was and where she was meant to be.
I’d definitely recommend this read to others and can’t wait to read more by this author!

Make or Break at the Lighthouse B & B was a fabulous read and is part of the Marram Bay series. A fun, easy to read and great book that hooked me in from the first few pages and was devoured in one sitting. Looking forward to the next book.

I really enjoyed this book. Light and easy to read with likable realistic characters. A happy ending that I thought could have gone two ways. I would definitely read more from this author.

A cute book taking place in a cute northern England town. Lola believes her life belongs in London until a broken leg opens her eyes to a boyfriend who was not worth, fake friends, and a job that was more focused on what her injury meant for them rather than making sure Lola was ok. Enter her parents who bring her home to recuperate and Lola reconnects with an old friend, makes new friends, finds love, and realizes its better to be happy in a small town than alone in the big city. 4.5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

Another great book by Portia MacIntosh! I absolutely love this writer! I had so much fun reading "Make or break at the Lighthouse B&B). There is always something interesting happening, you never get bored, this book is a page-turner. It's fun, there is some romance in it, there is suspense and I even laughed out loud sometimes during my read! i love when it happens! I give this book a 4 stars out of 5 and I warmly recommend it to anyone who loves chicklit!

Lola’s life begins when her social and romantic life in London ends. Learning the fragility of friendships, her broken leg finds her returning to her childhood home and the care of her parents.
Once home, we meet the charismatic Dr Will who Lola remembers from school as an awkward geek who was never comfortable around girls. Luckily, Lola was always kind to him and is flattered when he remembers her. However, Dr Will is now drop dead gorgeous and interested in learning more about the adult Lola.
As Lola worked in the matchmaking industry when she was in London, her mother encourages her to help a mismatched group of locals find love. Included in the group is policeman Dean whose sister begs Lola to take in hand as he’s lost his spark since his divorce.
The story unfolds with a lovely blend of romance and comedy with twists that may not seem obvious at first. Can Lola find happiness from helping others and, just maybe, find love?
I really enjoyed the easiness of this story and finished the book in one sitting, Portia has definitely found the recipe for a lovely romantic comedy.

Ended up really enjoying this one. When Lola breaks her leg, her sometime boyfriend and her sometime best friend are not there for her. Having to leave London and go back to her parents' B&B was hard, but with help of her new friends and a new possible guy or two it just might work. Happy and fun read, and one I highly recommend if you want a relaxing escape.

I absolutely loved this book. What a fantastic read! I have read a few of Portia MacIntosh's novels before and this one is definitely one of my favourites. It follows Lola, who happens to break her leg at her "BFF's" wedding, and has to move back home with her parents to her hometown because none of her 'friends' or 'boyfriend' in London care or want the hassle. Lola, wheelchair bound, tries to make the best of it and counts down until she can get back to London and to her 'normal' life.....During her stay, she meets up with old classmates (a hot doctor!), makes some new friends, and wonders.....is there any reason to go back? A must read! One of the best rom coms I have read in awhile - and I have read a lot! Such a great read with interesting characters and great storyline.

I don't know what it is about my love of stories where the heroine has to return home either because she broke up, got hurt, or has to take care of a relative... But, they are like crack to me.

And Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B is just further proof as to why these books work.

Lola is a matchmaker with a broken heart... Can that heart mend?

This story was wonderful! I'm a sucker for stories that involve sweet friend groups! And, with the hilarious dialogue and the sweet romance; this book was just what I needed to read!

When you need a pick me up I highly recommend this book, Portia Macintosh brings love, laughter and kindness in a 300+ page book. Not only that it gives you a sense of family and that when you put your mind to it you can be happy.
Being the first book I had read by Portia Macintosh I am thoroughly impressed. I loved how the book flowed from start to finish. It had the right amount of love, laughter, sadness and some downright hilarious moments. Not only that it had a strong sense of friendship and camaraderie. This book was a definite guilty pleasure for me. I read it really quickly and it made me want to be part of the book and having fun.
The book follows Lola, who is the main character. In the first few chapters she appears quite selfish but when she falls and breaks her leg she soon finds out who her friends are. She is in a relationship that again after she is in need, make her realise who is important.
I love the friendship that built up throughout the book. That they were able to help one another and also laugh together. The fact that they are all looking for love, it had happy moments and some sad parts but overall it made my heart happy. It was a quick read that I would highly recommend to everyone for a feel good feeling.
I like that the main character Lola finds herself in this book, I mean she has to kiss a few frogs before she finds her prince. She takes a long hard look at who she is and what makes her happy as well. I am a big advocate of making sure you are happy and that you come first.
Highly recommend this book to people that want a quick fun read to make you heart feel a little full.

It doesn't happen often that I DNF a book, but this one just struck the wrong chord for me from the get-go. I found myself so annoyed at Lora's superficiality that it honestly completely took away any enjoyment I might've had from reading this book. Maybe it's just not the book for me? Either way, I just couldn't make it beyond the halfway mark.

A wonderful romantic comedy that will leave you wanting more, this is such a light happy read and wonderful at this time of year to cheer yourself up. It’s fun, the characters are lovely and there’s a whole range of delightful characters in the community, it feels like a world I’d love to live in, but at least you can visit, if even only on pages. Highly recommended to make you happy

Tried to get into it, but I'm guessing I wasn't in the right mindset at the time of reading to really get into the storyline. I love the premise, but it's sort of....meh? I can't describe it well. Probably should try again when recovered from the flu.

What a fabulous read this proved to be - another fantastic romcom from this highly talented author, a story I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone looking for a lighthearted, fun romance to escape into.

Lola James had left her island home and was working as a matchmaker for the rich and famous in London. She thinks she has it all - a dream job, great friends and hot boyfriend. However, after falling and breaking her leg she discovers just how tenuous those things are. Her boss doesn't want her in work whilst she's using a wheelchair and her so called friends and boyfriend aren't prepared to do anything to help her. Fortunately her parents come to her rescue and she returns home to recuperate in the family lighthouse B&B.

Returning home brings back memories, helps her to reconnect with her old friends and, after she finishes with her cheating ex-boyfriend, even potential new romance for her. Her Mum sets her up trying to help local folk find their match, helping allay any boredom and introducing her to some fantastic new friends. It is a story of looking behind the facade, discovering just who your true friends are, helping others and finding love when you least expect it. This is a great read that I loved and I hope we get to go back to Hope Island again in the future to discover what has happened in the lives of the characters from this book and meet some new ones, too. It is a great mix of laughs and romance with a couple of added dashes of mystery to keep you turning the pages!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so.

It took me to read only two books of Portia MacIntosh to realize that she is the Queen of Chick Lit.
I love her writing style so ironic and hilarious.
This is a story of second chances. James's cool life in London turns down when she breaks a leg and she has to come back her parents´ house in the little village of Hope Island. During a period of six weeks, Lola will have to remain in a wheelchair which will be pushed by her family and her new friends. All they will get her to know what is the real friendship and the truly love.

Long Live the Queen of Chick Lit Portia MacIntosh!

When Lola breaks her leg at her best friends wedding, she soon discovers that she doesn't have the close tight knit group of friends that she thought she had. She has to move back to her mum and dads to be looked after.
I loved the mix of characters that she meets when her mum talks her into running a lonely hearts club with advice. She uses her professional expertise to try and find love for the locals! They are such a varied bunch of people and Lola gets to know them well.
The Lighthouse B&B sounds wonderful- somewhere I'd love to stay. You get the small town community feel where everyone knows everyone and I couldn't wait to read more.
