This was a really cute little picture book! I think there are definitely some kids that will find the book funny. it is also a great example of you are what you eat! I will definitely use this for storytimes in the future.

This is adorable and ridiculous. I love how fun this story was. It's a typical toddler story where there is fear in the unknown and comfort in the known. The shift and repercussions from doing the same thing everyday and not wanting to try new things was really quite cute and funny .

A perfect story for picky eaters! Little Donkey loves grass- in fact, it's the only thing he will eat, despite the pleas of his mother to try something else. One day, Little Donkey gets a surprise when he sees his reflection- all that grass has turned him green! Will this finally convince him to try something else?
This story is a great example of how well text and illustration can work together to make something wonderful. The text is funny and relatable, and the artwork is fabulous- it's vibrant and colorful, filled with detail, and Little Donkey's expressions are perfect. So recommended!

A fun book for picky eaters. Allepuz’ s mice are fun reoccurring characters to carry readers between books.

A whimsical tale of a donkey that loves grass...too much! Lovely pictures, a joyful main character and simple vocabulary make it an easy choice for even the youngest readers.

Picky eaters are hard to deal with. They will only eat one thing. That is exactly Donkey’s problem. He will only eat grass. So much so, it turns him green. But with a little persuading from mom, he might just find a new snack. This would be fun to read before bed, or even at story time. The illustrations are soft, but lively and fun as well.

The plot of this picture book is pretty predictable - Little Donkey only wants to eat his favorite food, to the exclusion of everything else, causing him to turn green. When he finally eats something else, he eats only that. This gives us a subtle message about moderation but it may not land with young readers.

Donkey is addicted to eating grass, and he loves it so much that he refuses to eat anything else. One day, Donkey has eaten so much grass that he turns green! He's worried that his mom will find out, so he tries different ways to get his color back to normal. This book has a twist at the end that made me laugh out loud, so everyone should definitely read it!

Little Green Donkey is obviously aimed at picky eaters. While the idea is cute, I've seen the concept done better.

Little Donkey loves to eat grass. He wants to eat nothing but, and eventually turns green from eating too much of the stuff. His mother thinks he needs a more varied diet, so she offers some other options until he finds one he likes. Then he eats too much of that... and turns a different colour.

Similar picky-eater themes can be found in books like Fussy Flamingo by Shelly Vaughan James (in which a flamingo refuses to eat the one food she should be eating, opting instead for various foods that turn her all sorts of funny colours) or Mrs. Pig's Bulk Buy by Mary Rayner (in which Mrs. Pig, fed up with her piglets' continual demands for ketchup, feeds them nothing but). Little Green Donkey is amusing, but the premise is done better in Fussy Flamingo and the message is more realistic in Mrs. Pig's Bulk Buy. Depending on the child, however, Little Green Donkey might be a good choice for a picky little eater.

Super cute story! Little Donkey only eats grass and eats it so much he eventually turns green! How will he change color again? I love the illustrations and the cute details and characters. I also enjoyed the story - it was quick, but delightful. I think children would enjoy this story. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer and shared more of Little Donkey's story as he changes color. I would share this with a storytime for sure!

What a brilliant way to show children how important it is to have a varied diet. We loved this story and Ada could not stop giggling, especially when he went green! She loved the story and the illustrations. Im fact, we have had to read it each night, after the first reading, so she can see the green donkey again.

Parents of picky eaters will definitely empathise with Little Donkey’s mother. All Little Donkey wants to eat is grass. It’s green and yummy and they don’t understand the need to eat anything else.

Their mother tries and tries to get them to try a new food but they don’t want to hear it … until they go too far and turn green!

Finally their mother succeeds in getting them to attempt some other foods and Little Donkey discovers a new favourite.

This was a really cute book and I loved the ending. This story reminds me of someone I knew as a kid who ate so much of a specific food for so long that their skin finally betrayed them, tinted with the colour of the food.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Candlewick Press for the opportunity to read this book.

This is a cute story about a little donkey who doesn’t like to eat anything except his favorite green grass. I really enjoyed this short story and feel that young aged children would too. It could also be a good book for any children that picky eaters like the “Little Green Donkey”.

Little Green Donkey is a colorful, short story about a young donkey who only wants to eat green grass. One day he eats so much that his whole body turns green. Little Donkey feels so content full of grass, but he certainly doesn’t accept his new green color. When his mom influences him to try new foods, he begrudgingly attempts to eat numerous fruits and veggies. Will Little Donkey ever find anything as delicious as the juicy, green grass?

We found ourselves chuckling all the way through this book. It’s a comical story, but opens up for a lot of discussion on food. Most importantly, it brings attention to the fact that ‘we are what we eat’, and it’s not only important for kids to learn at a young age that it’s okay to try new foods, but to also pay attention to moderation.

Overall this is a perfect story for young readers that’s super colorful, funny, and easy to read. This is definitely one we’ll be adding to our collection.

Simple story arc if a picky eater donkey who only eats grass. A little too simple for me story and format-wise to want to use in my classroom but I see the value for encouragement in a read aloud at home.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really cute story. A donkey loves grass so much that it turns green from eating too much of it. It's mother tries to get it to try many other foods, to no avail. The text is good and flows nicely; definitely a good read-aloud. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and cute. This would be a good book for the picky eaters in your life!

Little Donkey only as a taste for grass and doesn’t want to try ANY of the other foods his mom suggests. When he eats too much, he finds that he has turned green, oh no! He tries to roll in the mud and stick colorful leaves to himself to mask the green, but of course, his mom knows right away and insits he try some new foods. Even if he likes some new foods, his colorful problem may not go away.

What an adorable book! I love the playful, kid-friendly art style, and the theme of trying new foods is a good one, and it’s mixed well with a humorous message that kids will enjoy. It’s also an opportunity to practice color and food identification, as many of both are peppered throughout the book. I really loved the little mice who keep popping up throughout the story as well. They are super cute.

This one’s out in July, in just time for the season where lots of yummy fruit grow. Keep an eye out for it and grab it from your favorite, local bookstore or request a purchase at your library.

I received an electronic ARC from Candlewick Press through NetGalley.
This little donkey refuses to eat anything but grass. In fact, he eats so much grass, he turns green. He attempts to hide his skin color from his mom by wallowing in mud and covering that with leaves, but, as you'd expect, mom sees the truth. She convinces him to try other foods. He rejects everything for a couple of pages until he tries carrots - those he likes. Humorous ending that may start the cycle all over again. The facial expressions bring the story to life.
Great read aloud to introduce healthy eating.
