I have come to love Jennie's cowboy books.
Brynn is a down on her luck waitress, and Zane is a horse whisperer.A commonality they share is their love for animals.
I liked the emphasis on rescuing animals and people that came communicate with them puts me in awe..
Characters from one of her series were also mentioned. I always like to catch up with them.

This book was so cute! I loved how animals kept showing up to the farm. It was a cute and funny aspect and god, the chemistry between Bryn and Zane was amazing. Such a cute and fulfilling book!

Zane and Bryn like each other but are afraid to make the first move. Opportunity knocks when an abused horse needs recusing. As they fall in love Zane keeps pulling back. He has been abused by his Father all his life and doesn't think that he is good enough for Bryn. Can she prevail?
This is my first time treading a Jennie Marts book. Looking forward to many more.

A Cowboy State of Mind is the first in a new series (Creedence Horse Rescue Series) by Jennie Marts and I really enjoyed it. In small town Creedence, Colorado, Bryn Callahan inadvertently starts and animal rescue with the handsome and complicated Zane Taylor by saving one horse. As the rescue grows so does the connection between Bryn and Zane. The story was great and I’ll be reading the authors backlist for sure while not so patiently waiting for the next book in this series.

**I only had one so small problem and I'm sure an editor will find it but wanted to point out that during chapter 11 when Zane runs to Bryn's house and is out at the barn he is said to be wearing sneakers but a few pages (on my kindle) later but still in the same scene is says he "looks down at his boots" but he was in sneakers.
I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is the first book I've read from this author (and thanks for NetGalley for an early copy and for introducing me to so many great new-to-me authors!). One of my favorite past times is to watch videos on The Dodo, which is a website that features videos of animal rescues or animal rehabilitation. This book was full of these types of stories and each one was so heartfelt and beautiful. The main couple, Bryn and Zane, both had difficult pasts but together, they created something wonderful- a horse rescue center (although other animals, such as dogs were also the recipients of care and help.) I loved how they were with each other, although there was a bit of push and pull, especially on Zane's part, because of his past. (His family dynamic was so sad and my heart hurt from how much he suffered). But overall, this was a hopeful, wonderfully poignant book and I loved reading about the beautiful hearts that worked hard to make sure that the animals had a good place to call home. I'm definitely reading more of this author's books and, in fact, have already borrowed another book on Kindle from her.

Creedence, Colorado – The Present

Zane Taylor and the border collie he hasn’t named leave Logan Rivers’ ranch in his pickup to go to Creedence to get some supplies. Zane also wants to go to the local diner and get some biscuits and gravy before going home. His father, Birch, waits there. Birch’s heart attack is the cause of Zane's return to his hometown. Logan, who gave Zane the unwanted nickname Horse Whisperer, asked him to help on the ranch, but the woman he worked for in Montana wants him to return to work at her ranch real soon. He sees the broken-down car of the local diner’s waitress, Bryn, the one woman who haunts his mind, on the side of the road. She always looks at him as if the scar running down his face is invisible. He gives her and her dog Lucky a lift into town.

Parked outside the Creedence Country Café is a very dirty horse trailer with an equally dirty mare inside. Inside the diner the owners of the trailer wait for their food. Bryn finds out they are taking the horse to be slaughtered. She offers to take it. They insist on a hundred dollars. Money Bryn doesn’t have. She is barely making ends meet. When Zane leaves a hundred-dollar tip, Bryn gets the horse. It takes Zane’s horse ability to get the frightened mare out of the trailer. Together he and Bryn walk the horse the few miles back to her ranch. Soon more abandoned animals are given to her, starting her horse rescue.

Bryn’s mother left her and her brother at their grandparents’ house and never returned, but she has a very open and caring heart. She fears Zane is going to break it. Zane’s dad blamed him for his mother’s death in birthing him. Birch is a malicious, often drunk, man. Long ago in a fit of rage, he sliced Zane’s face leaving a scar. The scar isn’t the only reminder Zane has of his father’s cruelty. It left him knowing he isn't the type of man Bryn deserves. The emotional aspects of this story will keep everyone reading and wondering how these two will ever come together. This wonderful story shows it isn’t only horses that need rescuing.

I am always looking for new cowboy romance series, and this one did not disappoint. This was a really sweet, heartfelt romance with an added dose of animals. I will definitely be returning for more in this series.
