Althea and her siblings were thrust into society when it was discovered her brother was the last heir to a dukedom. This newfound title as well as their states as “new” money have made Althea the target of bullies and rumors. Nathaniel has spent the several years letting his familial home rot around him as he desperately hid a secret that would ruin his entire family. These two broken souls end up as neighbors and tentative friends, then lovers all while knowing marriage to each other is unlikely.

I must admit I am not usually a fan of books where a character needs the popular or good looking one to assist them in gaining their own popularity. Blame the teen movies of the 90’s for ruining that trope for me. Even though I expected from the blurb to have to endure long scenes of “education”, instead Burrowes gives us an endearing and emotional love story. Between two lost souls and I enjoyed the push/pull of our two main characters much more than I expected.

I am only marking down this book one star because, as Althea is working to break down the reclusive Duke’s walls his secret is revealed. I was surprised at how quickly we as the reader were let in on the secret since it’s so devastating to Nathaniel. It helped to further endear me to Nathaniel’s character, even as it frustrated me. Knowing the secret so soon in the book only further increased the angst for me as I worried how the happily ever after could be delivered.

I was a bit frustrated that much of the last third of the book was spent on conversations with other side characters or in plotting the final resolution. I became frustrated with the society intrigue; however, I think that is mostly due to my preference for action rather than talk. Burrowes tackles subjects of bullying, child abuse, and family responsibilities like a master. Her characters are well developed and endearing. And her resolution of the happily ever after was satisfying for me as a reader.

Overall, I gave this book a 4 because I felt the story was excellent and I enjoyed the honest love story between the main couple. My qualms about the pacing of the end are quite minimal. Fans of Lisa Kleypas’ Hathaway or Ravenel series will enjoy this novel for the strong family bonds. Content warning for descriptions of mental and physical abuse towards adults and children.

A Duke By Any Other Name, by Grace Burrowes, will be available in booksellers on 4-28-20. Rogues to Riches series book 4, begins with a laugh, and it drew me in at first chuckle. Who knew pigs could make me laugh if they weren't flying or talking. Our hero, Nathaniel, comes across as part Heathcliff and part straight guy in a comedy act. Althea, our heroine, is witty and outspoken which is also her social downfall. The repartee between these two is an homage to classic movies of the 1930's where everyone is slinging fabulous set-downs at each other. I've read a 4 chapter extended preview and it's given me a taste of what a compelling book this will be. I must know what happens when these two get together, bet it's going to be a good journey.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Duke by Any Other Name is the fourth book in the Rogue to Riches series. This has been such a fun series and this book fits right in with the previous books. The books can be read as a standalone, but the series is so good that it’s hard not wanting to read them all! This is just the preview and includes only four chapters, but after reading the preview you will certainly want to finish!

Having read MY ONE AND ONLY DUKE, I am thrilled to see that Quinn's sister is getting her own story. It is an interesting twist that Nathaniel's older brother is still alive, but living in seclusion, leaving everyone to believe that he is dead. Lady Althea already has me in her corner, being lonely and mistreated by society seems so unfair. Having Nathaniel teach her how to beat them at their own game, will be fun to watch. I look forward to the opportunity to see how this story evolves.

I am a great fan of anything written by Grace Burrowes and I have yet to ever read any story of hers that I have not liked. I do not believe that she can ever write anything that is not a great story and success. I am looking forward to reading the whole book of A Duke By Any Other Name.

Although this was just an extended preview I can tell that Grace Burrowes is up to her usual excellent style of writing and I'm anxious to read the rest of this story. Ms Burrowes inserts so much description into this book you feel like you are watching this live "He vaulted one handed over the fence." *swoon* my kind of hero. With witty banter and lightning like exchanges "Rothhaven, I employ a butler and a night porter. Have you a reason for eschewing the front door?"(OK full disclosure, I love language and she is one brilliant writer) you can't wait to turn the page for the next meeting of the two protagonists.

Our heroine is looking for guidance to be accepted in her new neighborhood with the local gentry as she'd been mocked on her previous foray into society. She implores our hero;who for some reason feels he needs to stay isolated in his manor home, to help her be accepted so she might find a husband and have the family she's always wanted. Yes, I need to find out why he is hiding or who he is hiding from, I'm that much invested in the story already.

This is the 4th book in the series Rogues to Riches and I would suggest reading the first book My One and Only Duke if nothing else, the back story of our heroine Althea is often refereed to and would help the reader to have a clearer understanding of her full story, plus it's a great book one of my favorites of hers.

Since I've now pre-ordered the book I can't help but recommend it to all Romance History lovers. April 28 can't get here fast enough for this reviewer.

I enjoy everything by Grace Burrowes! I can't wait to read the entire book! I also can't wait to read the next book in the series. due out later this year, apparently to feature the hero's brother and the heroine's sister.

I received a complimentary extended preview review copy of #ADukeByAnyOtherName from #NetGalley

This story is set in the past, which already sets the plot up for romance by featuring things like dukes, ladies, horseback riding, fitting into high society, etc. The author sets up the basic plot by introducing the characters and backgrounds, with fun and sometimes humorous dialogue. This novel will likely be an uplifting read.

Another interesting read by Grace Burrowes! Nathaniel Rothmere, Duke of Rothaven is basically a recluse, living like Heathcliff, riding his beautiful horse like thunder, having no visitors, only his long time servants as company, or is there something more mysterious going on? His nearest neighbor is Lady Althea, a sister to a wealthy, vengeful, powerful Duke! Due to her less than elitist background she suffers from the mistreatment that only the snobbish ton can dish out! She requires help from Rothaven, how to behave as if she had been born to title, and not from the worst of London.
I highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley!

I was fortunate to receive an extended preview of A Duke by Any Other Name. I truly enjoyed reading it and look forward to the full book. I probably shouldn't have read the preview so early before the book's release date because I am definitely wanting to read more of the story!

There are some humorous bits and fun dialogue. I like how the characters are developing and am thinking they have more in common than they realize. The first few chapters are sprinkled with hints of their past that I want to find out more about.

I will definitely pick up the full copy when it releases April 28, 2020. And in the meantime, I'll pick up more from Grace Burrowes.

As a huge fan of historical romance, I can tend to be quite picky and harsh in my assessments of them and yet this one was almost without fault! The only fault I had with this novel was that it ended so soon… I NEED MORE.

I found myself deeply immersed in the story of The Duke of Rothhaven and Lady Althea. His hidden kindness and her endless strength were the perfect match. I have such a weakness for stories in which characters’ personality types play such a vivid role. That was the case for this excerpt and it certainly caught my attention hook, line and sinker!

In an extended preview you tend to get a decent feeling for a story and the pace it will set. A Duke by Any Other Name set a jaunty, easy-to-follow pace that had me reading this all in one sitting! Honestly, if I’d have the full novel I don’t think I’d have stopped until the end. It’s safe to say I’m EAGERLY anticipating the full release!
